Moments
I am having the best moment
Opening up a book that bends in my hands
Sitting in a little bookshop.
Choosing a cake that my grandmother knows the recipe for
The words on the pages feel personal, familiar, safe.
Quiet chatter around me pauses while a song that I thought only I knew plays.
My chair is not cozy, but comfortable and the sun is perfectly peeking through the window— miraculously warming my hair while avoiding my eyes.
Listening to laughter and laments I see decorations for the upcoming festival of love.
Each day I check the mail for my upcoming “Be mine.”
My Be Mine invitation coming from my future.
My future school where I will go with the flow— and hopefully flowing with happiness and not just relief.
And I smell my cake as the older couple zips and clips up their coats and I am wishing I could read my book and write simultaneously,
Because both feel so calm.
And it is moments like this. Calm moments of my own, and moments of others I witness from my spot I the corner that make this life, this day, this moment, the best.
