The New Yearâs Eve Pact [Steve/Bucky; PG-13]

(Also known as millennials spending a year trying to find love and falling on a lot of dicks instead)
December 31st: nearing midnight.
Find a boyfriend, the piece of paper said. Peggy read it over his shoulder, making an amused sound as she reached for it. Â âWell that one isnât for you. Try again,â she said, her red nails brushing against the sheet as she shook the sun hat with random New Yearâs resolutions written by other party-goers. Â âThe catch of being the only man invited to an all-female party is no one strives for gender neutrality. Iâm disappointed, frankly. Â I expected more from my friends than heteronormativity. â
Steve pulled it away from her grasp. Â âNo,â he answered firmly, shoving the paper in his pocket. Â âI think this is the one.â
Peggy observed him for a moment, her eyebrow winging up slightly at the tip, the only sign that heâd surprised her even slightly. Â âWell, then,â she smiled, her fingers resting on his shoulder for a non-verbal show of support. Â âTake a shot.â
The tequila went down sharp, and there was nothing like cementing a new year by ensuring that you woke up hung over on the first of January with a commitment burning a hole in your pocket. Â The game had been for fun, Steve knew that. Â He didnât need to actually make finding a boyfriend his resolution for 2018.
(because Steve was terrible at flirting with strangers, for one)
