Pet peeve

Artist calls a 8 hour painting a “warm up” that ain’t…

That ain’t a warm up. That’s art. You spent a significant amount of time on it. It’s not a warm up. It’s not a sketch or a doodle. It’s ART. That’s what most of your day has gone into, that’s not minimal effort artwork there.

I know some people are self depreciative and some people want to humble brag but I think it warps peoples perception of what sketches and warm ups actually are.

I know it’s nitpicky but man does it bug me

Artists and creators who voice their concerns about lack of interaction and reblogs are not being selfish or whining for no reason. 

I know many people who are so discouraged by the lack of appreciation they get for stuff that they spend hours on, things they pour their heart and soul into. Even a reblog from Sean does not fix this anymore, it just makes the ratio even more dramatic. 

I’ve seen people voice this before and get told “you’re meant to create for the love of it”, “you just want attention from Sean”, “stop whining and go away”, and that’s not fair. Anyone who puts themselves out there and creates something for others wants and deserves appreciation from the people who claim to enjoy it. You can create what you love and simultaneously value feedback and interaction, they are not mutually exclusive. 

Creators are what made this community so special. Joining and seeing the septicart videos, the wealth of art and edits in the tag from so many insanely talented creators was awe-inspiring. And having that many artists in the tag, seeing them spread around your dashboard, inspired others to do the same and keep the ecosystem alive (for lack of a better metaphor).

What I’m saying is, please appreciate the creators in this community. They’re the ones who take the videos and ideas we get from Sean and elevate it even more, making the gorgeous content which helped make this community so special. So reblog art, leave comments in the tags, make someone smile, give them the validation they need to feel like its worth it and don’t shoot them down when they try to talk about the problem.
