Wemmbu and Flame seem to almost have their bsfs besides them simply as a cosmetic thing to anyone from the outside. They clash so muc, it's almost COMICAL like. lets be so fr.

Has LOMEDY who is just a FARMER and maybe slightly above novice trapper at best. What on EARTH makes Flame want to have Lomedy by his side?
Similarly with Wemmbu, but this is a bit different imo. That's what starts off the differences. Egg was asked to join by Wemmbu. Egg also was with Wemmbu through a lot of his training, and rise to power. Now how silly is this?

This I think already shows the difference between Torchflower and Taxduo. Wemmbu has had Egg with him for the ups and downs. When he had no gear, to when he was arguably one of the richest on the server. Egg has been through the genuine torture nexus for and because of Wemmbu, and through all of that they've just grown closer and made their dynamic stronger. That is now they work, what doesn't kill them LITERALLY makes them stronger.

Lomedy actually got BEEF with Flame for every bad thing that happened to him. Most of us know the nail-biting-dangling-off-a-cliff Torchflower had during Law Arc? Yeah. That's a prime example.
Lomedy has put a lot of faith into Flame, and has had his trust broken. In a way, Flame was acting like Wemmbu does @ Egg but it only backfired on him. I think this is also because Flame has ALWAYS been the strongest.
He has never been at a point so low where Lomedy did had have save him. He has always been on top, he has always been unwavering, and until that broke around Law Arc-ish he was always the strong one. But he failed Lomedy over and over.
In a way, Flame put himself in a position where he COULDNT fail Lomedy without it blowing up, yet it did. He quite royally fucked up. We already know that Flame literally folds when a rift between him and Lomedy cracks open, because he CANT lose him. Funny enough I've been in situations with friends where I need to fold to keep it happy but MOVING ON FROM THAT IM SPEAKING WITH SOME EXPERIENCE IN THIS AND HOPING IT LINKS CORRECTLY.
Now onto how does this relate to my original point? How are Wemmbu and Flame held back differently in ways thats PERFECT for their characters?
Wemmbu is held back by Egg through genuine connection. I don't call it fully healthy (i mean what UU friendship IS fully healthy??) but I think that it's because Egg actually has a very underrated connection with Wemmbu is why it's so significant. I talked about how Egg has seen him in the ups and downs, and I want to add he has seen him in the WILLINGLY down parts. In moments where Wemmbu was tbh panicked, or dirt poor, or just with the lesser hand? He cared about Egg in the way that showed genuine thought for Egg's well being. It sounds so sarcastic, but when you put it up against Torchflower? It's absolutely better.

The other pushes them away.
Flame would tell Lomedy to get out of his way or to just run and let HIM fight. In the end, Torchflower is them for themselves while Taxduo would go down together. I'm being harshly critical on Torchflower i do admit, but I think that they're so independant on their own that they accidently made a rift between them. ||
Flame doesn't want to leave Lomedy, so he stays. He knows he can leave. Realistically, Flame doesn't NEED to stay because joining Cindercrest was something Lomedy WILLINGLY did. HE proposed the idea, HE convinced Flame. The whole thing that shows itself in moments is that Flame isn't held back by anything but himself. Again. himself. In these cases with Lomedy, it ALWAYS comes back to HIM.
With Wemmbu? He'll do anything for Egg, tells him to make an escape tunnel, hell. he STOPS fighting if it means itll get Egg out of immediate danger. THAT is a key difference. Yes, Flame will stop, but it'll be too late. Flame is held back by his fear of losing Lomedy, and so is Wemmbu, but it's the depth of "lost". ||
If Flame breaks free, he's losing Lomedy in the way he has already lost him before. They'll be on basically opposing sides (even if they arent directly against each other) he's losing the friendship, the connection, that part that mattered in such a… "shallow" manner.
If WEMMBU breaks free, he literally loses Egg. Egg dies. killed. deathbanned. dare I say scrambled and/or boiled. In a way it's how Wemmbu does things, all or nothing. It's such a reflection of the protags actions that's it's driving me nuts that I can't correctly word it. Flame may lose the intangible part of Torchflower, but Wemmbu will fully lose Egg. And honestly, that thought has to haunt him.
If we remember alllll the way back, HE had ASKED Egg to join. HE is the reason Egg is on here in the first place, and honestly the reason why Egg has gotten into ANY of these situations from a crude standpoint (bc there were other factors AFTER Egg joined ofc
My final point is that Wemmbu and Flame are held back in such a way that their past selves never would've believed. The only reason Flame isn't fighting back is because he doesn't want to lose his friend. He isn't solo anymore. Wemmbu can't just brute force his way through things, he has to work under someone AGAIN.
