what about your hc's for rick's backstory/past?

Ohhh boy you done did it now. Okay nah, I actually think my headcanons for his past are pretty gen and like, in line with what most other people seem to think? But anyways.

I think he figured out how to travel between dimensions sometime during his early 20s, and that he met Birdperson and Squanchy during his time exploring and all that jazz. At some point not too long after that they all got involved with the Resistance against the Galactic Federation, or maybe one or both of his alien bffs were already involved when he got to know them. I also think he was popping back to Earth frequently during that time and that he actually had a more “normal” lowkey life going on? I think Rick was still attached to the concept of home and belonging somewhere when he was younger and less jaded tbh. I think he met Mrs Sanchez during that time, and I absolutely think they had that young and impulsive kind of love where they really cared about each other but also painfully grew apart as they got older. I think he kind of tried to balance it all; instead of popping off on random adventures, like in the present, he went to fight with the Resistance, but he came home basically every day. I headcanon that Mrs Sanchez wasn’t too happy with that though, especially after important permanent responsibilities like jobs, owning a house and Beth came into the picture, and I think it eventually created a big rift between them (not that it was the only thing that contributed to the end of their relationship). Rick’s mental health probably detoriated along with his marriage as well, as he saw more and more awful shit during his mid/late 20s and early 30s, until he eventually left his family for good in his mid/late 30s.

And, y’know, then he probably spent 20 years initially fighting the Federation some more, before he just drifted around aimlessly in the multiverse, trying to distract himself with anything he could find to feel less lonely.
