the sunset made the water look so pretty
flops over in the nearest person’s lap. no, he’s not getting up. today is A Day.
AAVE & Callouts.
Okay before yall start asking me/im me questions, i have….links. I’m not an encyclopedia.
Auntie azu is here to talk about, AAVE! and the use of it being used in callouts! from the perspective of a black girl, and an academic standpoint ( bc i know some of yall low-key don’t care unless its in a dictionary, i see you. )
Now i know some of yall non-Americans are all: whats aave?
AAVE is “ African American Vernacular English “, originally known as Ebonics, but we dont use that term anymore its kinda…skeevy. save it for 5th grade.
Now. you must wonder, what is AAVE?? like srsly. AAVE is those slowly appearing terms like “on fleek” “bae” “finna” “its lit” “whats good” “kween” that typa stuff. For one thing its AAVE, which should only be spoken by black people in the first place, but its becoming common in the community used by non blacks ( not just white people, but non-black poc as well ) and specifically call outs. You shouldn’t been using slang to make your callouts more ‘tough’ or ‘threatening’ bc guess what? thats a microaggression.
Ofc my black muns can use it however they want bc why? it was made by black people, for black people, but bc your favorite viner started using it or you picked it up through a group of blacks somewhere you wanted to be cool, the in crowd, tough. That’s not okay……lol..
AAVE started ofc waaay back, 1800′s, but it became much more popular in the 80′s and 90′s, where rap was more prominent, spitting words was a way for us blacks to relate. lgbt+ of color, specifically black trans women created these words during underground ballroom throwbacks, in these cases as well, they were made to lift our fellow black lgbts. Not to make a scene. From the highest richest african americans to our siblings in the projects, guess what they have in common? we all use AAVE. its like…what it means, a universal black language.
I grew up with aave. Even tho i’m not from the projects, ive come from a pretty “hood” place in Harlem, as you would call it. I know the “cornah stow” your “we out to 25th’s” and all that. What’s the difference? i use it in a positive light, to explain myself in a shorter simpler term, something me and my fellow black muns can relate to.
Now, when did the idea appear that, using it in callouts isnt okay? “its just slang!!!” i guess because…the constant demonization & demoralization of blacks in media, around you, around the world including the west indies and south america AS WELL AS ASIAN COUNTRIES bc guess what? there are black asians alive, and well, conquering and so forth. When you use it for callouts you’re basically stating that: hey! this is bad guy/girl language! ima use it to sound threatening and to scare the other! time to put on my sassy black girl pants!!”
Now another point, ive been noticing the constant “Miley whats good” shit…if you took a step back and studied you’d realize the reason why nicki said that was because, miley was guess what? demonizing her & belittling her, as a black woman,( a popular black women ) wondering why theres a lack of actual diversity at the VMA’s. It was not a “threat” it was not a “angry KWEEN NICKI MOMENT!!!” it was literally. a question. trust me. we in harlem use that term and its not…that threatening lmao. Guess who makes it threatening tho? non-blacks.
TLDR: You can get your point across without using aave in callouts. really the only people i should be able to comfortably speak aave with, are my fellow black/mixed black friends. No one else. its just facts b. here some links. educate yaself.
AAVE being slipped into media, specifically non-black media.
Why AAVE is not, improper english. I recommend actually watching it, it also talks about ableism.
“ You talk white “ a video on the microaggressions when it comes to policing tone, which is something i recommend!
♦ | guess i’m a felon then?
and Allen is just going to watch him for a moment before wrapping his arms around him and holding up a bar of chocolate. chocolate helped with everything, right?
Tyki stares at him for a moment && then sighs, shaking his head before plucking his cigarette from his lips, putting it out && then stuff it down in his pocket. he’ll dispose of it later.
he can’t really find words at the moment, so taking the offered snack && then mirroring Allen’s actions, wrapping his arms around the child, is all he does.
bad mood? yeah.
they did a christmas party special cd too

ignoring completely what Tyki says, the boy only tugs harder, before hissing. he can feel tears gathering in his eyes – even if it’s from pure anger. he isn’t letting go. this is for Daisya – for Suman.
“ i hate you…! i HATE you so much…! ”
❝ get in line, little BOY ------- ! ❞
there’s no hesitation at that point for him to swivel around, && though the tiniest of tears sting his eyes from his hair being treated so terribly, Tyki is fully capable of dealing a sharp blow to Allen’s throat. his fingers curl into a fist && he stiffly draws his arm up to strike the teen’s wrist, attempting to shake his grip on his hair.
