CHAPTER 1
Y/N POV
My heels makes a click-clack sound on the clean white floor of the HPO hospital as I walk to my office. Its 7.30 am in the morning and I still have enough time to go to my office and change, then get some coffee, before going into my out-patient clinic. I scan my ID in the biometric and it opens my office room door. I enter my office and lock the door. I reach for my cupboard and take my scrubs out. I change into it and change into my hospital shoes. I take my coat from the coat hanger and wear it. I walk out of my office with my stethoscope and pen in my coat pocket as I go to the café in the hospital.
“One vanilla latte please” I smile and tell the café waitress taking my order. I then pay with my ID card and wait for about 2 minutes before I get my order. I take my coffee and sit at an empty table. I drink the coffee as I check the time on my watch. 7.47 am it showed. “Well I have 10 minutes to be at the OPD” I sigh. After chugging my latte, I rush to the elevator and get in. I press number 3 on the panel and wait till I reach my floor. I get off once the elevator stops and walk to my consulting room. I look at the Dr. Han Y/N placard outside my door as I enter the room, only to be met with my favourite nurse Soobin. “Hey Soobin, how are you today?” I ask him. “I’m all good doctor, how about you?” he asks. “I’m good too Soobin” I smile at him. “So how many patient do I have today?” I ask getting ready for the long day ahead.
After what seemed like an eternity, but actually was 7 hours, I was done with all my patients for the day. I sigh and lean back on my chair and smile. I opened my eyes to look at Soobin who was already smiling at me. “Let’s go to the canteen, come on” I tell him. As we walk we talk about how it’s hard to treat hybrids when they don’t trust humans, and how easier it’ll be, not to mention more comfortable for the hybrids if only hybrids were allowed to work. No matter how nice humans are it takes time for the hybrids to trust us and thus extending their pain and treatment time.
We reached the canteen and paid for our lunches. After getting our trays filled with food we settled in a table in the corner. Before we could dig into the food I hear a voice shouting for me. “HEY! Y/N” I look up to see none other than my parallel veterinary doctor Dr.Jisoo and her nurse Rose. She and I work on the same days. She will take care of any animal patient or hybrids that are in their animal forms with me. While I take care of hybrids in all forms. I wave to her and she rushes with rose to sit with me and Soobin. “Hey Dr.Jisoo, Hey Rose” I smile. We chat for a bit about our patients that are admitted as we eat our food. The beeping of our pager goes off and both me and Jisoo rush to the ER. Once we enter the ER, Dr.Yeonjun and his junior Dr.Taehyun fill us up with the information of a large ear Pikas hybrid that was hit by a car, in front of the convenient store, right opposite to the hospital. Apparently the hybrid was running away after taking some food from the store in its animal form when it got hit.
Since our hospital is located outside the city, around 40 minutes from it and 20 minutes from my house, which is right outside the city border, it is in the middle of the woods and the highway. Which is why we get quite a bit of accident cases of stray and runaway hybrids to our ER. So this wasn’t new to me.
I reach the bed in which the hybrid was in its animal form. Jisoo immediately started dressing up its wound, while I checked for internal injuries with an ultrasound. I ordered a CT and advised the ER nurse huening kai and beomgyu to administer the hybrid painkiller and I.V fluids. It looked like the hybrid had a dislocated shoulder which I can fix only in its human form so I wait for him to wake up. The CT showed no internal bleeding surprisingly so all that was left is for the hybrid to wake up. I asked Dr.Yeonjun to keep an eye on the pikas hybrid and let me know if they wake up.
I went back to my office to take some rest as I was exhausted. I lay on the couch in my office and close my eyes drifting off as soon as my head hits the cushion. After what seemed like 5 minutes I receive a call from Dr.Yeonjun. I groan as I open my eyes to realise I had slept for almost an hour and a half. I sigh and attend the call. “Yes Dr.Yeonjun?” “Dr.Y/N the Pikas hybrid is awake and is very agitated. I think it will be better if you come take a look” I hear sounds of thrashing in the background as Yeonjun speaks. “Okay I’ll be there in 2” I rush out of my office.
The scene as I enter the ER was something I did not expect. The Pikas hybrid now in his human form, wearing the hospital gown thankfully, was thrashing at anything coming near him. I wondered how they dressed him in the gown if he was this agitated. Yeonjun sees me and rushed to my side. “Thank god you’re here Dr.Y/N, I don’t know what to do. He changed into his human form but was still drowsy. Once beomgyu changed him I think he became alert and since then he has been like this”. “Dr.Yeonjun I think it’s better if we disperse the crowd around him. I’ll handle this myself” I walk towards the hybrid. He stops moving and stares at me. I see fear in his eyes and he looks around frantically for a way to escape. “Heyyy. I’m Dr.Y/N I was the one who treated you when you were brought into the ER” I say softly hoping he will hear me out. Seeing that he stopped moving and is listening to me, I continue “I know that you’re confused and in pain so let me help you. Okay?” I look at him for any form of approval but he just stared at me blankly. “Your shoulder is still dislocated. I cannot fix it in your animal form so I waited till you woke up and changed. Will you be okay with me fixing it for you? I need to come closer and touch you for it and it will hurt but don’t worry I will give you paid medication for it. Okay?” I move slowly as he nods ever so slightly.
Once I’m near him he freezes as I touch his shoulder. With one swift move I relocated his shoulder as he bites his lips and winces in pain. “Shhh its okay. You’re okay. It’s all done now.” I coo at him as I watch him struggle. “Do you remember how you ended up here?” I ask him for which he nods. “What is your name? Do you have anyone that I can call for to take care of you?” and he goes back to ignoring me and just staring at his hands on his lap blankly. I sigh, clearing my throat “I still need you to stay here for the night and see if you are any better tomorrow morning. If you still have any issues moving your arm, we might have to give you some medications for it or just physiotherapy. But whatever it is you will be safe here. So don’t worry” I smile at him. “I’ll ask Dr.Yeonjun to shift you to my ward for the night. You can call for me anytime.” I pat his back softly before waving my handing to grab Yeonjun’s attention.
“Dr.Yeonjun you can shift him to my ward. I would like to keep an eye on him for the night and then decide what the best course of treatment is after. Please let my unit nurse Soobin know about the details and to let me know once he’s shifted.” I nod taking my leave as I go out of the ER. I breathe in the cool night air as I look at the convenient store on the opposite side of the highway. I cross the deserted road and enter the store and greet Mr.Lim. Mr.Lim was appointed by my father after he set this store up for the hospital workers. “Is the hybrid fine Ms.Han” his voice will with concern as he looks at me. “Yes Mr.Lim, he is much better now.” I smile. I walk around the store and get some sausages to snack on. I pay for it and exit the store giving Mr.Lim one last smile.
I snack on the sausages as I walk on the pavement next to the store. I sigh looking around seeing the big hospital in the middle of nowhere. Behind the store is a small hill which separated the highway, hospital and store from the woods. I feel eyes on me from the hill but I shrugged it off. I get a call from Soobin informing me that the Pikas hybrid has been shifted to the ward. As I thank Soobin I see a pair of yellow dots staring at me from one of the trees on top of the hill. I shook my head and squint to see nothing there anymore. I sigh thinking it’s the lack of sleep that’s catching upto me. I finish up my sausage and turn back to go to the hospital. The moment I turn around I feel a growl behind me. I slowly turn around to stand face to face with a Black Panther hybrid in his human form. He looks at me with so my hatred and venom in his eyes. My face scrunches in confusion as I hear what he says.
“What the fuck did ya’ll do to Jeongguk?”
