Hello! My name is Mary, and this is my blog! My husband and I live in Northern Massachusetts together with our adopted daughter. I'm no writer, so I hope my little posts aren't too busy or dull!
I enjoy reading, poetry, gardening, philosophy, film, photography, travel, food, and the paranormal ♡
Recently I've undergone some changes that drastically altered my perspective in life. In sleep I still dream of the darkness that once controled our lives, but now - in waking hours - I have overcome that terrible curse. Life is beautiful, and the world around us is full of mysteries we may never solve.
My husband loves to document our life together through his pictures and videography. So, I've decided to join him in his little hobby, though I'm more interested in sharing my inner-most thoughts and feelings, as well as my story.
(Here's a postcard from our last vacation. Though, I'm not sure if James will ever take me back again.)
Welcome to my "funny" "parody" account
This blog is dedicated to light-hearted roleplay! This is meant to be a "for fun" sort of project for me.
This blog is "run by" Mary Shepherd-Sunderland, in an alternative timeline where she's been cured of her illness. It's vaguely based on an AU of mine, but I want this to be a goofy blog without too much consistent "lore". Nothing serious.
The writing style will fluctuate. Sometimes Mary's posts will be eloquent, she'll take the time to write it like a letter (wink). Sometimes though she just won't be feeling it, and the posts will be a little more silly. Mary is a complicated woman, with different sides to her.
The inbox will be opened from time to time for asks! I'll be making text and art posts, hopefully more than ugly paper sketches.
Specific tags I'll use:
#ask = reponses to askbox asks
#mary = posts made by Mary
#husband = posts made by/about James
#laura = posts about Laura
#journal = random musings, poetry, or ideas posted by Mary
#art = posts that include original artwork
#rb = reblogs of other people's amazing art
#ooc = anything meant to be from the blog creator / not in context of the roleplay
#🌿 = "I made this post while I was stoned and you should assume that Mary is too."
#nsfw = posts containing NSFW text or suggestive imagery. Filter this if you do not wish to see it. I plan on keeping the blog fairly tame but don't blame a girl if Mary gets a little frisky.
- RULES / GUIDELINES -
• TASTEFUL 18+ / Suggestive asks are permitted. Do not be explicit, do not be krass. If you want to ask if Mary thinks fat guys are sexy, that's fine and tame. However, do NOT aim your sexual desires at me or my blog. I am not Mary, I am not James. I'm just some guy. I've run a blog like this before, and people have sent me asks detailing sex acts they want to perform with my characters. This is unacceptable.
• Canon compliant darkness is permitted. You are allowed to ask Mary about her illness, she will do her best to answer. Deep and difficult questions, as long as they're not extreme.
• Asking James a question is absolutely permitted, Mary will simply ask him for you. But, don't expect his answer to make sense.
• Do not feel entitled to a response. I work 5 days a week, and I'm going through a difficult move as of writing this. This blog is meant to be escapism for me, allowing me to just kick back with some fluffy Mary/James in a casual setting. I struggle enough to draw as is, so acts of entitlement or rushing me on an ask I never replied to is not appreciated (I may block you, if you decide to harass me over it.)
• Do not send me inflammatory asks. Don't try and pick fights with me. Especially over differences in headcanon or canon interpretation. If you take issue with the way I portray these characters, I suggest you practice self-curation of your online experience the easiest way possible: block me.
• Other ask blogs are permitted to interact, but I'm pretty shy and slow to come up with replies/draw so again, the entitlement rule does apply here just as much. Please don't expect a response.
• Random note, it IS a bit silly to pretend Mary has a tumblr blog, since I'm setting this in the early 90s. Just suspend your disbelief, I'm not going as far as to design an old HTML style webpage for this. She has a magical computer with access to modern internet, or something. It's not that deep, just go with it :P
I operate on cartoon logic. I could get an ask from another Mary or like, an MLP rp account, and I'd find a way to play along.

EDIT 1: Changed the biography to reflect new headcanons of mine... Ashfield is located North of Boston, at the very border of MA, while Silent Hill is about 6 hours north in Maine.
Whatever higher power decided the grocery store was going to be packed with confused tourists today will feel my wrath when I climb through the great tower of clouds that seperates us mortals from their domain and tear their doggone godly heads right off their incorporeal bodies.
The Two of Cups sings to the balance of life. Whether it appears to you upright or in reverse, this card has something to say about your relationships. Pictured on the card are two partners raising their cups in a ceremony of passion.
In an upright position, the Two of Cups is associated with unity, connection, love, and newly formed bonds. Mutual respect is the foundation to all strong partnerships, may they be romantic, platonic, or financial. This card should also serve as a reminder to return any love and care you receive from others.
In a reversed position, the Two of Cups symbolizes a shift away from that familiar sense of harmony. Now, there are two opposing energies that push the other away, driving a knife through what used to be powerful connection. Without properly understanding our partners wants and needs, cooperation becomes impossible. Something in the relationship has shifted, making it impossible to see eachother clearly.
After much struggle and losing my original drawing, my entry for @sameasthem 's Silent Hill tarot card collaboration is complete!

This was my first time using vector layers in any art software.
Originally, the drawing was being rendered in Clip Studio Paint. However my computer suddenly stopped working about a month ago. I've been trying to repair it manually ever since... But I couldn't wait any longer to finish my piece.
The main image of the card was almost entirely finished when I had to start over.
But wait! It gets worse!
As you can see my canvas was "restored" multiple times. This is because my file is so complex that it corrupted everytime I left the app for the day. Restoring the file forces me to watch a replay of my drawing being created. (Thankfully, not in real-time.)
The Upright Illustration
On the main image of my card we have James and Mary on the night they met. To symbolize the ceremonial cups traditionally present on the card, they're shown holding red solo cups.
In the novelization by Sadamu Yamashita it's briefly mentioned they met as young adults at a mutual friend's house party.
The positive symbolism of the Two of Cups is all about new horizons - a fated meeting of two partners. In our illustrations case, this is the beginning of a passionate romance that will depend on the continued cooperation of both partners.
James Sunderland and Mary Shepherd are excellent avatars for this card, as we will see in the section about the reversed side.
The background is deep water, to symbolize the endless potential of a new relationship. It also serves as a reminder of this couple's inherent connection to Toluca Lake. Both romantic and tragic.
The Reverse Illustration
The colors on the reversed side evoke a very different mood than the soft pink pallet of our opposing side.
I was inspired by the colors used in this official poster artwork by Liza Shumska. The poster was a limited item on OKS that I really wanted but couldn't afford at the time.
The contrast was just so nice to look at, though I don't think mine is as lovely as the poster, haha.
Other inspirations!
I wish I could have captured the closeness of this card from a Spanish language tarot deck by German artist Norbert Lösche.
And finally, but honestly a huge influence on the look of my piece, I was inspired by the pop art style on this punk album cover. This is one of my favorite albums and I've been listening to Less Than Jake since I was born. I always loved the silliness of the image - I've had days where I'd like to jump into the water in my work clothes too. The illustration was done by Steve Vance, a highly prolific comic book artist who worked on Mystery Science Theater 3000.
If you read this far thank you mwah mwah I love you ! ♡
Good afternoon! Lately I've been focused on planning a video essay analyzing Mary Shepherd-Sunderland and possible interpretations of her character. Part of my research process for character analysis has always been to read what other fans think.
While I have had fun reading theories from 2005 that line up with my own, eventually they run dry from fans who dismiss any theories or deeper thought.
So, I'm conducting a small survey anywhere I can find Silent Hill fans! If you have played either the original OR the remake of Silent Hill 2, I'd love to hear from you on my form!
Hello! I go by Lynehouse. I'm conducting a short survey to hear other fans' perspectives for a character analysis essay I'm working on.
