Modern au Yumiko. She likes big shirts. Also clan symbols on shirttttttttttt
There's a young fox that's been following them.
The first instance she saw it, her instinct was to make a meal out of it or use it’s pelt. Stopping herself, she recalled stories of Inari and knew better than to kill one of the god’s messengers. Yumiko didn’t acknowledge it but she casually dropped a small piece of fruit she had been eating.
Bowing deeply, Yumiko gave them a gentle smile before nodding.
“Thank you too. I suppose i should…. Stay safe my friend.”
They bowed back as they had before. “Stay free.” As soon as they were in the bushes they’d turn back into a fox and dissappear among the forest.
Walking away from the spot, Yumiko left with a smile.
In the morning the pair would have moved onwards, a small gift of cooked fish and fruit at the edge of the forest for Kosuke.

Her expression softened as she listened to their explanation, ashamed that she almost considered hunting them.
“You’re very strong too. I’m sorry that you’ve lost the others.”

Yumiko gave their hand a squeeze as she nodded.
“Thank you. It felt like eternity...But i had to be strong....You speak like you know the pain of being imprisoned....Were you?”

Her heart ached within her chest, It was too accurate of a description....Perhaps they had been imprisoned too?
“Yes....It was like that for five years.”

“Indeed they are.”
Yumiko grinned as the child revealed their face once more and began walking around. The sharp teeth wasn’t something she expected but was used to the sight, most of the people she’s met had sharp teeth.
“Oh...Well I most sang and danced...I used to really love it but when you’re a prisoner and you have to...It loses it’s magic.”

She smiled as well, giggling as she watched them.
“You learn a lot of interesting tricks when you’re a performer for five years.”
Thinking back to it, Yumiko pushed some hair behind her ear, still not over the fact that she escaped.

Shocked by the sudden change in appearance, Yumiko grinned at the sight before blushing. Wow...It’s different seeing yourself like this rather than your reflection in a mirror....
“Hm?”
Looking down to the hem of the Kitsune’s skirt, she chuckled.
“It’s just traditional clothes but i can tie it up if i want. Sometimes i even do this.”
Yumiko reached down and rolled the waist band, the skirt lifting higher with each fold.

The fox laughed again. It walked off the path so it was hiding in the bushes again. “You’re silly. I won’t a messager until I’m old.” A child poked their head up over the bushes and stared at her with golden eyes.
Yumiko frowned as it walked away, not wanting the conversation to end but smiled when replied to.
“Oh! So you must be-”
Jumping at the sight of the child, Yumiko stepped over, looking for the fox. Yup…this was a kitsune… The young archer offered them a deep bow.
“You must be young then… it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Yumiko.”
They giggled, and gave a light bow back. “I’m Kosuke. You seem really nice. Thank you for the food. Why are you traveling threw my forest?”
“Kosuke… what a beautiful name.”
Looking around for a moment, Yumiko smiled at the surrounding trees before turning back to the child.
“This is your forest? It’s amazing. My….partner and I were passing through. We are on a quest and we’ve set up camp just outside the forest along the cliff side. I’m sorry for intruding into your forest.”
Kosuke had come out from behind the bushes and was walking a circle around Yumiko, staring at her all the while. “It’s fine. I don’t get many visitors and you two haven’t done anything bad. Besides I like these shoes he was wearing.”
They stuck out a foot to show her a black geta on their feet. They tended to mimick the clothing they liked best of those who traveled through, in their favorite colors of course.
Tensing slightly, she watched them circle around her before looking down to the child's foot. The shoes obviously weren't Jack's due to the color.
Yumiko chuckled before reaching down and lifting the them of her skirt to reveal a similar pair on her own feet.
"Looks like we match."

The fox nodded once then went ahead and sat to finish eating.
Frozen to the ground, Yumiko couldn’t move now that it nodded. Fear ran through her veins, her instincts telling her to not do anything to disrespect the fox. This was obviously a magical being, most likely yokai….
Watching it eat, Yumiko bit her lip in thought, unsure of how to approach it.
The fox watched her when it was done eating, tilting it’s head.
This human was interesting. They had treats and seemed to be.. what, scared? That’s funny. She’s so much bigger, why would she be scared?
The fox opened its mouth and the laughter of a human child rang softly in the air.
The sound of the laughter sent a chill up Yumiko's spine before she steeled herself. She's dealt with....actually no she hasn't dealt with spirits before...
"Excuse me....you don't happen to be..... one of Inari's messengers, right?"

Yumiko took several steps back, wanting to give the creature adequate space while it ate. The young archer looked over the animal as she mumbled to herself.
“Curious thing…Were you just following me for my food?”
The foxes ears twitched when she spoke and they looked up at her, seeming to make eye contact in fact, as they shook their head no.
The young archer blinked, unsure if she had just seen the fox respond. The eye contact was startling for a moment before she laughed nervously.
"You...can understand me?"
