but yeah!! my mum is a quarter chinese from my grandfather’s side. mum used to speak tidbits of mandarin to chinese customers when she was selling textiles in her family’s store during the vietnam war (as she had several siblings and resources were scarce - she had to stop attending school after ?? what would be considered her freshmen year in high school because some of her family members were actually fucking dying from malnutrition and constantly on the watch for a possible break out haha). she hasn’t really touched the language in a while when she took refuge in ontario after the fall of saigon so when i was born her mandarin was very rusty and decided it was best to teach me basic vietnamese and english instead. also my dad is HELLA patriotic about his heritage (degar/kinh) and gets uncomfortable when my mom mentions her chinese blood (as china has invaded and oppressed vietnam several times in its history and is doing some legally questionable actions modern day too) and has attempted to repress it.

i mean, if it matters, her maiden name was ma (it’s not vietnamese in origin and its a common surname in china!) and she also likes to joke about her chinese heritage a LOT (i remember telling her i was getting tired of eating char siu recently when we were visiting bellaire and she nudged me and said that her chinese blood makes her immune to being sick towards chinese cuisine LOL).

im not sure if i told you but im self teaching myself cantonese and its very hard!! i did apologize for my limited knowledge on the language and even joked abt jian being a dick even! tho i can’t apologize for the fact that you personally don’t like my ocs - i make them for my own entertainment. and a lot of people (strangers, friends, people with actual jobs and english degrees) i came across told me that my writing and characterization is very admirable due to it’s dynamic and stylistic qualities. i also study psychology and ive been writing stories, poems and plays for several years so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i can’t really take any of y’all’s criticism seriously given that it doesn’t explain what exactly i could improve on and its undoubtedly biased.

also btw when are you going to apologize for making racist jokes about my war refugee family members being forced to take up dangerous immigrant jobs?? i honestly dont feel you should speak about that issue especially since you’re not vietnamese :/
