Warmth BLOSSOMS in Lois’ chest — she’s sure Conner’s not doing it intentionally, but to hear him pretty much put HER into the same category as his dads is flattering to say the last. She gives his head two gentle pats before pulling away, albeit a little reluctantly. “I’m sure you won’t have to experience Kryptonite if you’re being careful. But then again, I don’t think any of you Kryptonians know the meaning of the word ‘CAREFUL’.”
She pauses for a moment to collect her thoughts. “There’s no gold standard for being good at being a hero. All we have to do is TRY. You think Clark doesn’t have his moments where he wishes he could have done things differently? What makes me HAPPY is if you’re happy, too. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, kiddo.”
Of course Conner would think of Lois in the same way as his two fathers, always looking up to her in a way a boy would to a mother figure. He has never had one before originally meeting her, and the advice she gives is always something Conner keeps with him. “I’ve been trying to be careful! I know I shouldn’t just rush into things, but I’m SUPERBOY! People usually look to me to take the heavy hits.” He says as he leans in to take another sip of his water.
He holds the cup of water in his hands, looking at the liquid inside of it for a moment as if getting lost in his thoughts. Her voice pulls him out of it though, and quickly finishes the drink to place the now empty glass on the table. His eyes looking at Lois again. “So you’re saying I should try being myself more than trying to live up to some imaginary standard? I want to be like my dad, but while also keeping a part of me in it.”
