can’t emphasize enough how when you grew up in a toxic environment, being in the room with someone who’s angry or frustrated - even if it has nothing to do with you - is absolutely terrifying cuz you’ve been 1000% conditioned to assume frustration = all hell is going to break lose and be aimed directly at you
When I feel the urge to cringe at myself for doing what I can to find joy in this meaningless existence filled with pain- I try to imagine myself in the future as an elderly woman.
I like to imagine her peeking out her kitchen window and seeing me do my silly thing and shaking her head with a smile.
She takes a sip of her coffee and shuffles into her living room. "She's at it again." Elderly me tells middle aged me with a smirk.
"Oh good!" Middle aged me says, trying her hand at knitting again.
"Silly girl." Elderly me says with all the love in her wise heart.
"Who's a silly girl?" Child me asks, playing with dolls in front of the fireplace.
"You, my love!" Middle aged me says, making a silly face.
"Stoooooppp! You're so embarassing!" Teenage me whines from where she sits the corner.
"We are so embarassing!" Elderly me corrects.
"I love that for us! Isn't that what the kids say?" Middle aged me adds.
Teen me says "ew" but secretly agrees.
People pleaser in me be like, “how to cry for help without bothering anyone?”
I’ve never known how to make my cries for help louder than a whisper.
How am I supposed to heal in a world like this? I’m losing hope that things can ever be better.
