Breath

the idea of someone leaving me and the feeling of a breath sitting in my chest has been in my head for a while but i’m not quite pleased with how this turned out.

(sorry i haven’t posted in a bit!! thanksgiving break really threw me off of schedule and finals week jumped out and suplex-ed me lmao)

this poem was really inspired by the common trope of “person enters someone’s black and white life and makes it colorful” and i wondered what if you never even wanted color?

my world was simply black and white.

absolute in every way.

yes or no

was all i ever

needed.

but you hurt me in an onslaught of blue. 

how could i prepare?

as i am overwhelmed by cobalt anger,

choking on indigo pain, 

covered in navy bruises,

cerulean tears trail down my face.

I Know It’s Hard Being With Me

(not to be a double poster but I wrote this when I was feeling really anxious and insecure and I feel the need to overshare lmao)

I know it’s hard

being with me.

Not in a toxic “break-your-shit” kind of way,

it’s colder and the silence causes a glaring divide.

I fear, one day, we will not be able bridge it.

It’s hard 

being with me. 

I can’t say what I mean.

Sharing emotions was never a language

I learned how to speak.

Despite your pleading eyes, 

begging for a clue or hint, 

I can feel my body locking from 

the inside 

out.

First, my heart valves clamp shut,

cutting off both blood and feeling.

Then, as if stung by the world’s angriest bee,

my throat swells shut.

Trapping my ever-spiraling thoughts and feelings under the surface.

Forcing them to to bounce around my body 

until they stick to the back of my mind. 

I can only return your desperate stare 

with one of my own. 

Desperate to share,
