It's the holidays, your whole extended family has gathered, and it's time to open presents, starting with the stockings. Beside the chocolate and scratch tickets, one of your aunts stuffed a pack of panties in there. It tumbles onto your lap and your eyes widen.
Now, everyone in your generation got a pack of underwear in their stocking. But only yours were printed with your favorite cartoon. There was no way to argue it was a mistake; your t-shirt was literally printed with the same cartoon.
Your face starts to feel warm as the stares of your cousins linger on you and your gift. One of them snickers but is told to stop by her mom. Your mom says something about "what fun underoos." You mumble out a thank you for whichever aunt was responsible and quickly set the pack next to you as if it was uninteresting.
Your mom keeps going, mentioning how you've outgrown your current printed ones, but she hadn't been able to find replacements in your size, so it was such a good gift. One or two cousins swallow laughter. Your face feels hot now.
Of course you packed enough clothes for the trip, so you didn't need to open the pack or anything. But the morning after you arrive back home, you tear open the plastic and select your favorite character to wear under your jeans. It really was such a good gift.
