it took me a while to understand the discourse on here about “the divine feminine” bc to me it means a different thing

what people on tumblr mean: a concept used by conservatives to describe an “essential” woman-ness, often wrapped in woo-woo. used to bolster the idea that women are more “suited” to particular things, be that softeness, caretaking, childbearing, etc. connected to the bioessentialist and unfeminist idea that a woman needs to be “in her feminine” to attract a man

what i thought it meant: the feminine aspect of god, as represented in judaism by the shechinah, in catholicism by the virgin mary, and in canaanite paganism by asherah

now there are communities who sort of combine both of these concepts, or use a modified version of the first, eg “women are spiritually connected to their periods because of the feminine energy of the feminine aspect of god” so when people talked about how it’s problematic and bioessentialist and cissexist to talk about/honor the divine feminine this is what i thought they meant. like i thought this was about woo-woo/hippie/new age communities getting weird and transphobic about gender through their spirituality.

maybe it is also about that? but i thought they were problematizing the concept of the feminine aspect of god in itself, and i was like hold on, yes this can be problematic but it doesn’t have to be! but i don’t think they were talking about the shechina at all, it turns out

It's a horrible little Picrew you can do and then use to represent yourself on Snapchat and I think maybe other Meta products? It lets you send like, a bunch of preset emoji of that terrible little Picrew you instead of normal emoji. As you may be able to tell from the images appended, this was (in my experience) immediately recognised as universally complete arse, ugly lame and dated from the very start. Somehow both incredibly specifically 2010's flavoured in its cringe while simultaneously being appealing only to boomers.
