Finally got my hands on the Segway F3 Pro
Alright so this is gonna sound weird but hear me out. I've been hitting the gym pretty consistently for like 3 years now and my biggest pain in the ass wasn't the workouts or meal prep or any of that stuff. It was literally just getting there.
My gym is about a mile and a half away which isn't terrible but walking takes forever especially when you're trying to get there before work or when it's raining. And don't even get me started on driving - the parking situation is absolutely terrible. Like you'll spend 15 minutes just circling around looking for a spot and half the time my girlfriend needs the car anyway for work stuff.
So I started looking into electric scooters a few months ago. At first I thought they were just for kids or whatever but turns out there's some legit options for adults. Problem is there's like a million different brands and models and I had no clue what I was doing.
Spent way too much time watching YouTube videos and reading reviews. Most of them were pretty useless tbh - just people talking about specs without actually using the things. But then I found this really detailed breakdown on ARideJunkie that actually compared the Segway F3 and F3 Pro side by side. You can check it out here if you want the full details but basically it came down to this:
The regular F3 is solid for most people but I'm 6'2" and about 200+ lbs so I was worried about power. The Pro version has the same top speed (around 19-20mph) but way better torque and acceleration. Since I'm usually carrying a gym bag and there's some decent hills between my place and the gym, that extra motor power seemed like a must.
Price difference wasn't crazy either - like $100 more for the Pro which seemed reasonable for something I'd be using almost daily.
So I ordered the F3 Pro about two weeks ago and it finally arrived. First impression was that it's heavier than I expected but still manageable. The build quality feels really solid though - way better than some of the cheaper ones I was looking at on Amazon.
First ride to the gym was yesterday morning and holy shit this thing is smooth. Took me about 12 minutes vs the usual 25 minute walk. The acceleration is legit impressive - you can feel that extra torque when you're starting from a stop or going up hills. My gym bag didn't slow it down at all.
Battery life seems solid too. Made it to the gym, rode around a bit after, then back home and still had like 60% charge left. The range is supposed to be around 18 miles which should be plenty for my needs.
Only weird thing is folding it up when I get to the gym. It's not complicated but you definitely get some looks from people who aren't used to seeing scooters. Whatever though - I'm saving time and gas money so who cares what people think.
The ride quality is way better than I expected too. The tires are bigger than most scooters so it handles bumps and cracks in the sidewalk pretty well. Obviously it's not like riding in a car but it's way more comfortable than I thought it would be.
One thing that surprised me is how quiet it is. You can barely hear the motor running which is nice for early morning rides when you don't want to wake up the whole neighborhood.
So yeah overall I'm pretty happy with the purchase. Kinda mad at myself for not doing this sooner honestly. If you're in a similar situation where you need reliable transportation for short distances, definitely worth looking into. The ARideJunkie review I mentioned earlier covers way more technical stuff if you want all the details.
Anyone else using electric scooters to get around? Feel like I'm part of some secret club now, lol!
