“You’ve gone through everything in the lab’s stock already?” Puzzled, Perceptor picked up one of the datapads, turning it on to skim. “The reading material is appreciated.” 

Looking back up to the engineer, his smile turned a bit odd around the edges. “I’d offer information from my own experience, but it doesn’t seem to be complete or…” he shakes his head. “Particularly reliable.”

“The lab’s stock? I’m flattered you think I can be so wasteful, but no.” he shook his helm slightly, “Just what I packed the first time, and most of my cargo was dedicated to medical supplies rather than scientific instruments.” optics narrowed and rolled over the mask. 

“If anything needs explanation, you have two of my comm frequencies; use this one.” he sends a short range burst to Preceptor, hoping he doesn’t ask why there’s two frequencies, “I can multitask. Besides, directed exercises can speed neuroplasticity and your brain’s recovery.”

If Perceptor is surprised at Brainstorm’s arrival, it’s not evident. At least until the mech speaks. He’d been sitting in silence, frown fixed in place. Brainstorm receives a smile and small wave when he looks up. 

“Not yet,” optics narrow a tad. “I didn’t expect you quite so soon. There’s an entire Cybertron down there and the great Brainstorm isn’t down investigating it.” after a short pause. “Perhaps I should revoke the statement, I may be going a touch batty.”

The wave is not unexpected, but that smile? What did they do to Perceptor that evoked such response, and where did they put the old one? 

“Yes, and of the entire Cybertron, some ninety percent of it is dark and and filled with the dead. Not that that doesn’t provide ample study material, but I need to restock on test equipment.” he wiggled the datapads in the air and set them on the table beside the microscope, “Brought you my observations thus far; keep you from going nutty and I can update them remotely. We can compare conclusions after you review.”

Is Perceptor in the medbay? Is he bored? Well, he’s not the only one who’s bored. Enter Brainstorm, a few datapads tucked under one arm and making a bee line for the scientist’s circuit slab. The lack of legs aren’t a surprise for him, he’s seen them already, and he wouldn’t show a reaction even if they were. He picks up a stool in his other hand and plonks it next to the microscope before taking the seat, neatening the stack of datapads on his lap.

“So, you gone crazy yet?”

He stood outside the inventor's workshop, an immovable statue of crossed arms and a scowl as he glowered at the seal doors. A branch of mistletoe rotated lazily just above his helm. "Intended, I know that you know that I am out here," he droned.

Brainstorm starts, so absorbed in his current project that he didn’t check his security feeds for a solid half hour. He fixes that now though, and observes the warrior in the passageway beyond. ::No, I don’t. Not in right now; why don’t you come back…” he dramatically changes his optics focus to the hud to check a schedule he didn’t pull up, not that Cyclonus can see it, “Never.” and what was that splotch of green? “You have organic mater growing about you; cant let that in my workshop anyways, its a controlled environment.”

It will only take a moment.”

::I’ve been aware of you intentions since the second time you violated my workshops security measures,:: a flash of concern troubles the engineer as optics stolen from a red dwarf focus on his camera; the glass, like any other material, can only take so much pressure before it breaks.

::However, I’m not the only one you have to answer to if you contaminate this area, I’m working on serveral pieces that require clean room standards, and unless you’ve decontaminated yourself- and that green thing is contamination- you’re gonna cause a lot of damage. Not that you mind, I’m certain.::

It looks like a catapult, but with significantly more to the mechanism than what a normal catapult would require. However, the note attached illuminates the true purpose of the device. There’s a non-weaponized lazer that is to be pointed exactly an inch above Killer, and a box that can be filled with expended bullet cartridges, to be launched at timed intervals so that Killer will never be hungry, even on extended missions.

Look at this; a journal to record all those delightful new methods of torture and murder you come up with! There’s even a file of suggested methods with a checklist, and a chatbox that lets you swap ideas with Vos’ in other dimensions in your multiversal cluster. Don’t have too much fun now! Honestly, he’s just giving this kind of tool to you so that he can monitor and control what is said in the chat room, though.

You really shouldn’t be so severely effected by electric shocks, but I guess your insulation has deteriorated, relic that you are. This should make it a little less damaging when I knock you into next week with a shock.

It’s a mod, just looks like a spark shield to prevent being picked up by scanners, but that’s just the cover. What it actually does is monitor the spark, and initiates a memory transfer through time of one week, permitting the user to know the circumstances of their death before hand- and maybe a means to avoid it.

“Yessir! I’ll be careful!” He approached the scanner with care, despite it being several times his size. He doubted that even if he wanted to, he could break it. The human circled it a few times before sitting down, opening his laptop and accessing the local network. He had no idea what resonance theory was, but with an hour or two of quiet concentration he could be as well-read as any Cybertronian.

Rafael was studying the scanner closely, observing its workings from his steep angle. He plastered his face against one of its transparent surfaces, trying to see the crystals inside. “Um, Mister Brainstorm? Is that one crystal supposed to be a different color?” He stepped backwards, pointing at a crystal that was slightly yellowed compared to the rest of them.

Well, Rafael could break the scanner if he so pleased, but he would have to put an effort into dong so. 

“Mister is a human thing. Do I look squishy to you? It’s just Brainstorm. If a Cybertronian has a title or honorific, they are introduced with it.”

When the crystal is brought to his attention, he crouches next to the scanner, leaning his head down to so he can have the same point of view as the organic and see which crystal is being indicated.

“Potentially. The color may indicate contamination of fractures caused by a break down in crystal structure on the molecular level, due to exposure to excessive kappa radiation.” A glance to Rafael, “What types and levels of radiation are permissible for humans?”

"You can’t just give up… not now!” Rafael looked up at Brainstorm with shining eyes, full of hope in the way only organic children can manage.

Brainstorm looks down at the incredibly small organic(Rafael did he hear it introduced as?), and raised a single supra optic ridge. Those soft optics were shining too much, was it about to loose liquids? Was that unhealthy? Thank Primus that he never had one in his charge- it probably would have died in an hour.

“Listen, squishy; I don’t give up, but there are times even the most brilliant of mechs acknowledge that standard methods are not applicable. That’s when I’m called in- a nontraditional engineer- to figure things out. Just because the direction is changing doesn’t mean the objective isn’t the same. Now go off and see one of your human medics, I’m pretty sure eyes don’t shine like that normally.”

Rafael smiled excitedly, immediately regurgitating the information that he’d learned from countless lectures, TED Talks, and NPR specials. “String Theory is the furthering of Particle Physics in theorizing that particles collapse to one-dimensional objects called ‘strings’ that respond to Quantum Gravity. In relation to dimensions, they are used to theorize about dimensions beyond the four standard accepted ones, with these quantum strings transferring energy and particles, serving as a form of circuitry between the theoretical infinity of dimensions. They would provide a framework for gravity to interact cross-dimensionally, potentially transcending space-time.”

He looked up at Brainstorm for approval, the twelve-year-old human always eager for an opportunity to expand his mind further.

Brainstorm actually gives Raf a glance, not letting the surprise show.

“Good job, you can quote the text book.” he’s working on a translation of a few documents, it should be done in a few seconds, “String theory is blunt and obsolete, but it’s as close as humans have gotten to resonant theory. The scanner to your left is a critical component for the mid frequency modulator, malfunctioning at the moment, but I’ve isolated it to that. Troubleshoot it carefully, the cheaper crystals in there take a few centuries to grow. By the time your done, I’ll have uploaded some files to a tablet that have a condensed curriculum. No history, just the currently accepted theories. Take whatever liberties you like on a project and present it, and if I think its acceptable I’ll let you work on something more important.”

Not only had this happened before, oh no, this time it wasn’t even the possible fault of the Lost Light’s maintenance crew. At least it wasn’t the cramped confines of an auxiliary storage unit, and well-lit, to boot.

The mech turned away from the door to fix a severely unimpressed look upon his host. Once a few moments have passed–enough to send and receive an answer on whatever query Brainstorm had sent–He ventured a question of his own. “Were I the paranoid type, I’d question the orchestration of these  incidents.”

It… could have been teasing, were it not for the incredibly dry delivery. Perceptor did not want to be locked in a closet with Brainstorm for an extended period of time, even one that was nigh on empty, bright, and large.

Brainstorm let the fingers fall from the side of his helm for a moment, reevaluating the situation. Of course, Windchime chose this of all times to exercise her independence(he really needed to build a new major construct to replace her), right when he was trying to make a good impression. 

He leaned against the bulkhead, supported by one hand while the other combed through the wires at the back of his neck, sending several more attempts at persuading the electrojellyfish to unlock the room. The result was nothing more than the same glyph, simply with a heavier weight on certain lines. 

“Well, I am the paranoid type, and I’m fairly certain of who is at fault if these incidents are being orchestrated.” In the meantime, his hand is gonna go back to the side of his helm, attempting to comm his other constructs and rearrange their schedules to bump up the timetable on the security maintenance.

The human child paused, a little taken aback by the mech’s flippant attitude. “But… But Brainstorm, I can help! I know I don’t look like much, but I’ve helped Ratchet before when he works on things! I know I can be of some use to you!” He truly did wish to assist. He’d been friends with Cybertronians for almost a sixth of his lifetime, and felt an almost familial kinship with them.

“So what is it you’re working on? Synthetic Energon? Non-deteriorating lubricant? Liquid metal faceplates?” Rafael was bubbling with possibilities, his organic mind racing. Especially since he’s been hanging out with Trepan a lot lately.

Brainstorm’s worked with the best, though usually they didn’t know that they were talking to a mech as his developments on holo-avatars were lightyears beyond that of other ‘verses that he’s encountered, it’s enabled him to work with names like Stark, Joyce, and others that Rafael may or may not know. He’s worked with them, and found them interesting, but still wanting at the end of the day.

“Those sound like the kind of projects Shockwave would play with. I’m working on a mod that will allow mechs with limited or no mass shifting technology to utilize a resonant modulator that enables them to step through different dimensions, based on 32.5D and rooted in the latest theory of higher dimensional resonance which, by the way, hasn’t been published yet.” He’ll give you a chance, squishy, only because his boss would get peeved if he brushed you off without a chance to prove yourself, “What do you know about string theory? I’ll bring you up to speed on the rest if you have a decent foundation.”
