Brandon Kelly’s upbringing was similar to the cliche of the rich, bratty, only child. He was given everything he wanted, everything his parents thought he wanted, even home schooled by the best tutors that their money could buy but unlike the characters in most of the movies he’d binged in the last few years, Brandon knew that it was their way of giving him affection when they were busy on business trips. Still, that never stopped him from feeling lonely as he grew older.
The sudden appearance of Brandon into Nick and Hannah’s life was questionable at best, a business trip to Korea that had them introducing their child to the rest of the company upon their return but there were never questions of how much they loved their son, giving him everything he could ever want to prove it – At first.
By his 3rd birthday, Brandon was given paints and a whole room in the house to put his colourful little fingers on – as far as he could reach, at least.
By his 6th, Brandon was already enrolled in ballet lessons simply because he’d said please.
His 10th saw him introducing a new tiara into the collection he’d started only months prior – Another apology for missing it.
His 13th brought him his colourful little room being turned into his own little design studio and a birthday dinner 4 days late.
His 15th brought their biggest apology – 5 weeks late. He found himself in charge of a clothing company – his own company – that they’d funded. Something he could have only dreamed of.
On his 16th birthday, Brandon asked for one thing, and one thing only - to be put into his town’s public school so that he could be a normal kid and make friends. Normal being a concept he’d deciphered again from movies. It wasn’t as though he’d been sheltered completely once he was adopted into the Kelly household; Brandon was taken to every event his parents attended for as long as he could remember and was the center of attention at any they held since he could walk. He was simply too precious to them to let out into the big bad world without their supervision though it never stopped him from branching out in the fashion world once he had built up his own clientele.
At 17, Brandon was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa and his parents wanted nothing more than to take him home and protect him from the world once more.
He, however, had other plans.
He was 18 when his fame seemed to skyrocket, becoming known outside of the runways at Fashion Week and his specific client list. He signed a modelling contract with Gucci, started the True Beauty campaign, showcased his own designs at the Met Gala and even dipped his toes into the music industry as a hobby. Even with the additional attention on him, Brandon just thrived in the attention and even enrolled in late classes at NYU where he met his then roommate/now best friend Minjoon.
His decision to move to LA was more complicated than simply just moving closer to the friend he was practically inseparable with according to his social media. His fame had brought him many things, most of which he had expected as his popularity increased but the one thing he hadn’t counted on, the one thing he had never really given much thought to was meeting any of his birth parents. Even less than that was the possibility that he wasn’t actually an only child, as he had been raised.
Too many arguments, tens of thousands of dollars on private investigations and a long plane ride later, Brandon found himself in his new home with just a name, determination and every piece of clothing he owned. To his surprise, it wasn’t difficult to find David, especially when he discovered that he was actually friends with Minjoon though he’s still taken the time to vet him carefully, not sure if he wanted to share his secret.
