As normal as it had become to have Kai spending time indoors in his personal living space, Shi never truly could let his guard down around him. Even with the instance of Kai saving him from a fatal accident didn't let him relax. If anything, the voice in his head only became more demanding, fierce, and threatening the more he allowed Kai to further occupy his thoughts. With the upcoming holiday coming up close, the red haired witch found himself already having picked out a gift for the hunter sitting beside him.
Honestly, for a hunter determined to kill him, there sure was a lot of nothing going on in the past hour. It was strange to simply be silently sitting around and drinking hot chocolate and working on individual things like nothing was wrong, but Shi had noticed that every visit into his home meant Kai's demeanor would change to something much less intent on taking his life. In fact, this demeanor was softer and much quieter, less intimidating.
Shi glanced at the wrapped stationery notebook and sketchbook sitting on the coffee table beside him. On top of those two wrapped books sat a wrapped up set of colored pens. The witch had noticed the number of times the person beside him had been writing or drawing something in a notebook, so it was probably a safe bet that he got him some new ones. He had gotten a writing notebook in purple and a sketchbook in lavender.
Now was probably the best time to hand the gifts over.
Reaching for the stack of wrapped presents, Shi took them into his hands, adjusted his grip so that he could free up one hand, then tapped Kai on the shoulder to grab his attention from the notebook he was writing in, ❝ I don't mean to interrupt you, but I have something for you, ❞ he gently spoke up in order to not startle the hunter too much.
The fact he had even bothered to get a gift considering their relationship was completely strange, but Shi couldn't help but want to do something. After all, there were times where they were... maybe friends.
❝ Merry Christmas, ❞ Shi said with a soft smile, holding out the stack of gifts to his guest.

This personality was softer...uh, safer, but Kai could come back out at any point. Still, the more Shi let them into his home, the more relaxed he felt each time around. He could tell that Kai wasn't overly impressed with this....quiet friendship that he'd been making with their victim. Though, Kai hadn't been doing very well at not getting close to Shi either.
He had no doubt that this point that Shi could tell a difference between them, even if the red haired male hadn't quite pointed it out to either of them.
As much as he felt so solidly in control, the anxiety of being pushed back in kept him quiet. Sitting there next to Shi and simply writing just for something for his hands to do. What if he said the wrong thing?
Movement next to him almost made him jump, hands already shaking as he tried to level his breathing. Not sure what it was about this particular visit, though he was sure it had something to do with the book that was weighing down his bag.
The tap on his shoulder made him startle, rolling his eyes at himself. It was painfully obvious that this second personality had no malice in him, but he could at least pretend like he'd be able to put up a fight if something actually happened. Though, it wasn't like he wanted Shi dead in the same sense that Kai did. Then again...he wasn't actually that sure that, that was still Kai's primary goal when it came to the witch next to him.
Contact clad eyes flicked to meet Shi's as he set his notebook aside, curious as to what he'd been drawing his attention to. Presents? Shi had gotten Kai a gift? No, gifts. He let out a breath, swallowing before gently reaching over to take the wrapped items out of the witch's hands.
Merry Christmas.
Balancing the packages on his lap as he reached for his bag and dug around. Ah, So Kai hadn't taken it out. The personality produced his own wrapped item, a second hand version of his favorite book - a retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
"Ah, t-this is for you. Merry Christmas." He matched Shi's tone, holding the book out and hoping that it wasn't painfully obvious how nervous he was by the slight shake of his hands.
He looked back down at the gifts in his lap then, picking up the first one and unwrapping it. Eyes widened when he saw it was a package of colored pens, it almost gave way to what could potentially have come with it.
A notebook and sketchbook were unwrapped next, the personality sitting for a mere moment in awe before he looked up at Shi with a small smile gracing his lips. "Thank you. These will be really useful." Truthfully, he couldn't wait to dig into the pretty pens, always loving the variety it gave, still a little awestruck that Shi had bothered to get anything for Kai at all, considering he'd been assigned to murder him. It made it less weird to give him something in return rather than being the only person to give something over.
Had Shi not given them something, he wasn't sure if he'd have dug the book out of his bag or not, not wanting to have been the one to initiate something that...heartwarming? It was a breath of relief that he'd been able to give the book though, picking up on Shi's love of reading and wanting to share one of his all time favorites with him.
