Taking a short break. Trying to figure out something a lot more meaningful than what I ate today, or what I bought today or what makes my life so much cooler than yours. Overwhelmed by the power we now have of the tools to connect to other human beings across the world. And very amused by the superficial ways we use them. I feel a unique connect with some of you. Sundays. For a freelance writer, they are pretty much like any other weekday. You can sleep in late, but spend a large part of your day working. And maybe step out for a quick brunch. I suck at time management, btw. It's just one of the things I haven't quite figured out. Plus it's not a joke really - I was diagnosed with attention deficiency as a child. It's not a funny thing. Been off SM for a while. Life takes over every now and then, and I find myself neck deep in work. Not complaining though. Better to wear out than to rust away. I have been asked to blow my own trumpet by a few well-wishers who were quite surprised to know that I do a spot of visual styling every now and then. Some days, the weather demands comfort food. And there is a lot of comfort to be derived from something as basic as a Club Sandwich. Manali on Friday experienced a sudden lowering of temperature. I was covered under layers of clothing, seated next to a heater. This sandwich helped keep body and soul together for this Mumbaikar not used to the mountain cold. Fresh fries, and a warm chicken filling made this cold-struck traveller do a spot of time-travel too. Back to childhood days when a club sandwich would make my day! All the fancy trappings of today's evolved cuisine can't match up the joy of biting into a basic meal. More so, when the chef gets it so right! The simplest breakfasts can make a day special. Warm flat-bread, known as parathas, stuffed with onions, and served with fresh butter, pickle and yogurt. Fresh juice, fruits and a piping hot cup of coffee to round it all off. Butter and parathas are a classic combination, the quintessential Indian comfort food. Now, spike this with the backdrop of mountains, add sound effects of natural streams and early-rising birds, and add a dollop of fresh, crisp breeze. It's a dream setting. It was so cold yesterday! Comfort food was called for. Had a crazy night. The HRTC bus I was travelling in, broke down. It was freezing cold outside as we changed buses. Reached Chandigarh around 7, and I miss the cold weather already! (at Manali, Himachal Pradesh)
What did you do recently that you had never done before? I went fishing today. For the first time in my life. Learned a lesson in patience and how to find earthworms. And earned a bit of humility.
