It is an amazingly inspiring spec commercial for BAND-AID (meaning sadly, we won't see this on TV) from a former classmate and talented director, Ruthie Marantz.
This story isn't about besting the opposite sex here. Instead, these girls skate because they like to hang out and skate. The story is about them completely and not about how they see themselves in relation to dudes (they're not trying to prove themselves to male skaters to gain credibility here; they're by themselves skating because they like to skate). It's a fantastic concept and it would be amazing if it got picked up.
It's SO important for girls and women to see women represented in a diversity of roles and it's great to see this being addressed in partnerships like the Getty Images and Lean In, in things like the Lean In Collection. Studies show that seeing other women in these underrepresented roles is actually a larger contributor to motivating more women to want to seek out - and succeed - in the roles, themselves. That said, the extra bonus here? This was also directed by a female director. something that is unfortunately also still a rarity (out of the top 250 domestic grossing films of 2013, women directors helmed only 6%).
We definitely hope we see more of this kind of positive content out there in the world - we know there's an audience that is ready for it!

What happens when Jay Z and Will Smith get together to do something? Whatever the hell they want, and it they decided to use their producing powers to bring orphan "Annie" back to the big screen. And the first trailer is here to show you that a lot has changed since the 1982 original.
I have to admit it. As a kid, I tortured my parents with this tale. Although they were amazing parents I fell in love with the idea of orphans (my other favorite story was always Peter Pan) and we watched the tape until the poor VHS started to break down. I even played orphanage, instead of "mommy" with my dolls, although I was a benevolent caretaker (despite that Miss. Hannigan does care for her kids, in her own way I guess). I recently bought the DVD when it randomly (and unceremoniously I might add) surfaced in the "bargain bin" at a local big box store. It absolutely broke my heart.
And even though no one can ever top Carol Burnett in my mind (sorry Cameron Diaz - it's not you, she's a legend) I am extremely excited by this reboot especially for casting Quvenzhané Wallis and Rose Byrne.
The best part? This movie comes out on Christmas which is two days after my birthday which means I will absolutely be taking my parents (and my brother if I can swing it) with me to see it.

And apparently the test isn't just good for equality, it actually makes dollars and sense too:
Last week, Versha Sharma and Hanna Sender at Vocativ looked at the 50 films that raked in the most box-office gold in 2013 and discovered that the biggest blockbusters cleared Bechdel’s bar. Of the 50 highest grossing movies of the year, 17 clearly aced the test, seven inched across the threshold—the women discussed things that weren’t men, but barely—and the rest failed.(Gravity wasn’t counted, because only two characters got substantial screen time.) But even though just 36 percent of the coronated 50 films passed “with flying colors,” the Bechdel-positive pictures earned way more than the Bechdel-negative ones: a total of $4.22 billion versus $2.66 billion.
