“Mmmm,” Jial looks up at the ceiling, ignoring the man angrily seething in front of him. “Nope. But I’ll be there in a few minutes.”

“It’s on Main Street...see you then,” she said. She hung up, wondering what the man was doing with Jial, but then let it drift from her mind. Skylar had enough drama in her life and didn’t need to know more about the twins’ businesses than they outright told her. 

With a small sigh, she headed to the cafe and got a table for two.

Jial picks up on the second ring. “You ready?” he asks, presuming nothing had gone awry. In the background, mutters of an angry man can be heard. “You can choose the place if you’re still up for it.”

“Uhm, yeah. There’s a cafe called Pierre’s Palace that’s pretty good, do you know it?” she asked, already a block away from the place. Skylar had learned to not ask about what the twins’ did for money or what they did during business meetings.

He resists the urge to roll his eyes at her apparent shock. Yeah, he can hold a conversation. He’s not a complete mute. 

“It’s up to you.” he lies back down. “Call me when you’re done”

“Alright,” she said, promptly leaving the apartment. Now that had been weird. She shook it off and went to her job interview/audition. She wasn’t really sure what Jael would think of this new job if she got the position...but she had few qualifications and no real education to show. 

So, burlesque dancer it was.

At around two p.m. she finished the audition and wandered down the sidewalk, wondering if Jial had really been serious about getting food. After a bit of contemplation, she took out her phone and gave him a call.

He lifts his head. “A job interview? For what?” He didn’t know she was doing that. Discomfort itches his shoulders. There wasn’t a lot he knew about Skylar that didn’t come from his brother. 

“Mmm,” another thought starts to nibble on him. “I have to do something downtown as well. Would you mind if we met up to eat?”

Skylar isn’t sure she can handle this sort of shock--Jial actually trying to hold a conversation? With her? “Uh, a dancing job,” she said, too stunned to elaborate any more. 

“Eat? Like...lunch? I mean...sure, I guess. I don’t really have any other plans for today.”

“Where are you going?” he asks out of curiosity. He’s already resigned himself to another lonely afternoon. She went grocery shopping last week and since Jael’s gone, the food’s not gone yet. 

And since the Iris incident, Jial presumes Skylar has nothing to do. She’s literally a housewife now. 

She’s slightly put off when he actually speaks to her. Skylar paused, hand on the door knob. “Uh, job interview downtown. Not sure how long it’ll last...” she explained, trailing off awkwardly.

Jial’s never really had a problem with people avoiding him. This mostly has to do with Lucas and Alma’s children. Jael’s the one who’s more easily approachable, ironically. 

He lies on the living room couch, staring at the ceiling. His feet dangle over the armrest. Jael just left for his turn, dealing with Russia. As soon as he got back, Jial was off on his turn. Usually, they left at the same time but now Skylar’s here. 

Living with them and married to his brother. 

Jael’s bedroom door creaks open and Jial sighs. Skylar’s been avoiding him. She’s kinda of easy to read like that. He isn’t sure why as he actually likes Skylar. 

Skylar had, since she met him, always felt like Jial hated her. He was cold, aloof, and generally unapproachable--very different from his twin. She had long ago decided it was best to just let him do his own thing and stay out of his way.

When she came out of her bedroom, she looked fairly nice with her hair in a neat ponytail and even a pair of (small) heels on. She paused to grab her jacket from a chair and then set off towards the door, aware of Jial’s presence in the living room. “Going out, see you later,” she said, mostly out of politeness, before opening the door.

He picks her up as easily as before. “You had a slightly easier time walking back during the honeymoon.” His body heat hasn’t changed much, feeling more like a fever now. 

Skylar felt like a rag-doll in her husband’s arms. “It was warm and you weren’t so hungry for my sweet, sweet blood,” she pointed out, somewhat weakly. The woman turned her head to bury her face in his chest, feeling like she could fall asleep right then and there. All she needed now was a hot bath and a lot of sleep.

“We should get going.” Jael says. “Wouldn’t want the park rangers getting wind of us. I don’t have any cash on me.”

He holds out a hand. “Think you can walk?”

Skylar opened her eyes before reaching for his hand. “Nope,” she responded, slouching forward and managing to get on her knees. That was about as far as she could get at this point. “Sorry.”

Skylar slid down along the trunk of the tree and sat down on the ground, breathing heavily with her head lolling slightly. Her face and neck were red and her hair was a mess, but she at least felt satisfied. After a moment, she let her head rest against the tree, arms falling limply at her sides as she closed her eyes, needing some time to recuperate.

Skylar managed a brief squint at him before he kissed her, the softness an odd contrast to his rough fingers. She glared at him stubbornly before her expression changed suddenly, breath catching in her throat as he slid in three fingers. Her back arched as much as it could, chest pushing into his. Her eyelids fluttered close again. She tried to form words, but her mouth didn’t seem to want to work and she could only produce moans.
