Have been pretty inactive on here and on AO3. Ended a 5 year relationship for the best but still. It’s hard to write smut and romance when your heart is shattered.

It was your evening routine, now. Kento was decompressing from work. You sat back and listened, rubbing your temples with your fingertips. He paced around the kitchen, clattering pans, crushing garlic, ranting.

"--introduced a new merge lane near Ginza. No advance warning of course. 'Traffic committee', are they? Bunch of clowns--"

The pan started sizzling, with mellowsoft aromas filling the house.

"--filing under category 1.1 instead of category 1.2, so I went back and did the whole thing again. Wouldn't happen if we switched over to e-copies--"

Two steaks flung with force, ejecting garlic cloves from the pan, to skitter away across the hob. Kento tutted at the garlic, picking them up and flinging them back in, too hard, to hop out of the pan again and he growled at the garlic now--

"--convenience store stopped the black pepper focaccia, people obviously have no taste, want sweet bread instead like they're fucking children--"

You were about to snap, you swore to God--

"--honestly I'd rather see a bunch of dogs in dinner jackets stand for election--"

You stood, clapping your hands once, sharply, and Kento jumped, looking at you mulishly as he flipped the steaks; "Enough! Fucking hell, Old-Man-Shouts-At-Moon, are you quite finished?"

Kento was silent for a moment, offended. As you poured the wine, simmering under his premature middle-aged grump, you heard a mollified little grumble above the sizzle of dinner.

"...any way to talk to your husband?...just having a conversation--"

"Be quiet and drink your wine before I bite you, Kento."

toji loves listening to you ramble. i really think he does. he finds your voice so soothing, so comforting, no matter whatever the fuck you're actually talking about. he's lazing on the coach at home while you're out running some errands and ranting about how stupid people can be over the phone. he laughs quietly to himself, very amused by your annoyed tone. but he loves it. he wants to hear what you've bought, where you've been, what you've eaten, where you're going next. he loves hearing you talk to the barista, never ending the call with him. he listens to you order a sweet little beverage and he's smiling, happy about the fact that you're having a good time.

he can't wait until you come home though. he already knows you're going to step inside and immediately hit him with another ramble as if you weren't just on the phone with him. he watches you kick off your shoes and remove your coat, he watches you place your bags onto the table before making your way over to him. you give him a big toothy grin and he doesn't even have time to respond because you're already falling flat on him. folding your hands on his chest, you rest your chin on top of them - staring at your boyfriend at an uncanny angle. his big arms curl around your middle and now you truly feel at home.

"arytiredfmyet?"

he rumbles a chuckle from beneath you and pinches your side, reveling in the little squeak you let out. "ya gotta speak louder than that, sweetheart."

with an eye-roll, you grumble back. "i asked whether you're tired of me yet..."

he looks so terribly comfy. and homey. and he smells so fucking good. you've never seen a boyfriend look so boyfriend. he's warm and he's looking at you with the softest eyes, despite the little smug grin that's creeping on his lips.

"ya got more for me?"

"i'm afraid so. awful, just awful things happened on the bus." you nod your head, eyes big - emphasizing your words like you almost died on your way back home and his insides feel extremely gooey. you're so close and you're warm, too. he can feel your heartbeat pounding directly above his own, the touch is just right. he knows you're tired; you've had a long day but you're still so set on talking his ears off and he loves you.

his scarred hands knead the skin of your waist. he looks like a big domesticated wolf. you want to scratch his ears. you surpress your desire to tell him that though. his lips stretch into a proper smile and your stomach fills with butterflies.

"can't wait to hear all about it, sweetheart."

Can't stop thinking about going on a blind date with Higuruma Hiromi and the whole thing is just shit.

Like Hiromi shows up late and in a dishevelled state, and his wry humour should be enough for you to tell him to fuck off but there's something about him that makes you want to ignore the obvious : he's a prick at heart and it'll never work.

You still let him take you out for drinks, and by the end of the night you both know you're a terrible match; you have vastly different world views and aspirations, and you both have issues you should work through before even thinking of being in a relationship.

Still, you ignore it and reason that maybe you can blame the alcohol for the night you'll spend together and, when morning comes, you can just go your separate ways.  But here's the catch : you're both major losers and you just keep falling in bed together and finding excuses for it, acting like you can stop any time or at least until one of you finds something - or someone - better to do. Unfortunately, no one ever compares.

perhaps my most controversial jjk take is that higuruma hiromi would NOT be super muscular. or like, at all tbh.

i picture him as slim but maybe he has the beginnings of a little belly now that he’s older. too many nights eating takeout at the office, too many beers and whiskeys after losing yet another case.

he only had like a month between when he discovered his technique to when he met yuji in the culling game. he didn’t have time to train up, and he didn’t really need to, given how powerful his technique is.
