CHARACTER AESTHETICS: brent nott
❝ we wear clothes, and speak, and create civilizations, and believe we are more than wolves. but inside us there is a word we cannot pronounce and that is who we are. ❞
nadiazabinii:
“Portkeys, then. If the Ministry can create thousands for a Quidditch game, they can surely make—-how many would we need—-maybe thirty to get all of the students to Hogwarts? Or at least allow us to make them. Have the house elves retrieve the trunks and then they can take as long as they’d like to fix the train. There are so many solutions that it’s hard to believe this isn’t some convoluted scheme on the part of the professors, to what end I don’t know.”
"Yet another reason to suspect Professor Longbottom’s involvement behind this decision. There is no reason to keep us here, meaning that the must want to, perhaps assuming that we all take some sort of pleasure in these kind of excursions. A vastly false assumption, on their part, one they never should have made if they were at all observant of their students. If I were to guess from my own perceptions, they want us to have fun doing this.”
noahelton:
“I just don’t understand how a train that basically runs on magic has stopped… running. It has been the same train for years and suddenly it gives up now? Very odd.”
"There is fault to be found in all strands of magic as it is not truly limitless. Perhaps the magic can only work when the train is in peak condition. But it is poorly timed.”
nadiazabinii:
“So if I’m understanding correctly, they want us to stay here, by the side of the railroad tracks like a bunch of displaced vagrants—-in tents no less—-instead of, oh, I don’t know, allowing those of us that are of age to apparate to more appropriate accommodations, or even the castle itself?” Nadia snorted, “Hogwarts staff and the Ministry—-inefficient and inept as usual.”
"I suppose we can’t apparate merely because they don’t have enough chaperon the younger students should we leave, but the amount of other feasible solutions to this situation continues to mount while we sit here on our laurels. I’m half-convinced that Hogwarts is merely exploiting the situation. Wouldn’t be all too surprised, quite frankly, if it was Professor Longbottom that suggested this whole deal.”
noahelton:
“I doubt I’ll tell my father - unless someone else has done so already. Plus it won’t last any longer than 24 hours.”
“We may not be inconvenienced for long, but Hogwarts still has to be accountable. And the whining from some students has yet to subside even hours after we have all began to settle for the evening.”
numberowen:
“I think there are probably enough classrooms when you consider the size of the place. The problem is having enough teachers and enough time in the timetables. You’ve thought about this a lot, haven’t you?”
"Or prioritizing which classes that we take. Or which are required after a certain point in our curriculum. I’ve spent a lot of time considering the vast number of ways that the quality of our education could be improved, yes. It’s something we should all consider, seeing as how we do not even have a post-secondary school option.”
numberowen:
“You’re suggesting that Hogwarts has ever been practical. The school with a staircase system that means you have to allow twice as long as you’d think to get from one lesson to the next and occasionally jump fake steps.”
"The nonsensical staircase is on my list of grievances with Hogwarts’ design that needs major improvements and updating. Its structure hasn’t much changed since its founding and more modern architectural design would serve the school well. Would even leave room for extra classrooms so more diverse subjects could be taught.”

❝ For it is not what happens to me that makes me great, but it is what I do. ❞
noahelton:
“I’m so used to leaving it and finding it already waiting for me in my dorm, you know? Seventh Year isn’t starting the way I had hoped it would.”
"I don’t think this is an ideal situation for anyone. The administration will have many enraged parents to answer to, I imagine. But I’m not the type to believe in bad omens.”
numberowen:
“There’s only one Hogwarts Express. Didn’t they have to steal the first one? And now the muggles use electric trains instead of steam trains so it doesn’t work as easily with the magic.”
“And exactly how practical is that, for an educational institution that is responsible for minors to not have a contingency plan should something go awry? Not even magic is fool-proof. As is clearly being demonstrated by this mishap.”
noahelton:
“Right,” he replied, straining to look at the array of trunks. “I’ll just keep looking… Not like we’re going anyway soon.”
"It does appear that, regretfully, we will be here longer than I had wished or anticipated. Your trunk is bound to eventually turn up.”
noahelton:
“I believe it’s made of oak? And right about now, all these trunks just seem to be blending into one another.”
“They are all trunks and they don’t vary much in design. But they do tend to stack the trunks by when they get them, so if you entered the train earlier, it’ll be towards the back.”
numberowen:
“Oh. Probably not then. My house is closer to the Scottish border than London, but only just. We’re really that close? I really should pay more attention to these journeys.”
“We tend to be at Hogwarts by early evening, so this is all based on estimates but, quite frankly, by this point, even if we are closer to Scotland, it would have been more timely to send a new train than make us wait out here for repairs, seeing as how we don’t even know at this point if the train can be fixed.”
noahelton:
“I seem to have misplaced my trunk,” Noah sighed as he squeezed through the large collection of school trunks. “There’s an ‘N.E.’ marking on it, if that makes it any easier to spot.”
"An inscription is much harder to spot and less useful information than knowing what type of wood it’s made of. Coloring is much easier to spot.”
numberowen:
“Does anyone have any idea whereabouts we are? I just realised we’re probably closer to my house now than when we started.”
"Considering we left King’s Cross Station at 11 o’clock and the train broke down at approximately 4 and that Hogwarts is around 750 kilometers from London, I would surmise that we are already in Scotland and are less than 100 kilometers from Hogsmeade Station.”
