Politics in Social Media
Over the years, social media has evolved far beyond just a place where you can share and chat with friends and family. In fact, social media now plays a vast part in politics, showing just how big of a stranglehold has on the world today. Social media's role in politics has allowed people a quick and simple way to obtain news on a diverse number of platforms, rather than watching news stations or reading newspapers. On the politician's side of things, social media opens the doors even more for political campaigns. Social media provides politicians with a direct way to connect with their target audience and promote campaign strategies without having to be in person. At the same time, social media seems to continue to open the floodgates for the political divide in this country. Accounts such as Fox News and CNN sometimes post biased content because of where they stand on the political spectrum, eliciting mixed views in their comment sections and potentially brainwashing people in a manner that can lead to arguments on social media and even off it. On Twitter alone, according to https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2022/06/16/politics-on-twitter-one-third-of-tweets-from-u-s-adults-are-political/, one-third of adults' tweets are politically motivated, which in turn can lead to verbal warfare amongst everyday people.
