Prompt: When I Look At You, I See My Future
It was a quiet night at Molly's when Sylvie walked in.
He tried not to look at her, instead focusing on the label of his beer bottle.
Kelly was talking with Stella during her break, and it took a couple of seconds for him to hear her voice.
It was smaller than usual. He knows why.
"Hey girl, how are you?" Stella asks, he can imagine she's pulling her into a hug.
"I'm okay." She responds.
The tone of her voice breaks his heart.
It takes everything in him to not turn around when he feels her eyes burning through his back.
Severide comes back a few minutes later. "Hey, me and Stell are gonna head out."
"Good luck, man." Sev says, patting him on the back before walking away.
He doesn't really wanna be here right now, but he also doesn't wanna go home.
He knows exactly what Severide and Kidd are going to do, and he lost his earbuds somewhere inside his room so he has zero interest in hurrying home.
Who knows how long he was sitting on the bar moping before he smells her perfume.
This time, he can't help himself and turns around.
He catches a glimpse of her just as she's walking out of Molly's.
It takes few stupid seconds for him to gain his confidence, but he gets it.
Slamming his beer bottle on the table, he rushes out to catch up with her.
When she stops and turns around, he takes a deep breath.
"I need to tell you something."
Her face softens just before she sighs and looks down.
"Please, Matt." Her voice is pleading but he wasn't gonna give up on this again.
He doesn't even realize how his words came out.
"I'm happy for you, Matt. I really am." She attempts a smile but it doesn't reach her eyes.
"No, no. I didn't mean it like that."
He really needs for her to understand.
He steps closer and holds out her hand.
She looks at it before sighing and putting hers in his.
He let's out a sigh of relief.
"Listen to me, please. Me and Gabby talked and I told her about us. I don't want to lie to you, but she was a little bit hurt and then proceeded to say some pretty colorful words, but I don't care. I'm not in love with her. I haven't been in a long time."
Sylvie's eyes well up with tears and she grips his hand tighter.
"I've been in love with you for what feels like forever. I need you to understand that. I'm not good with words, never have been. I know I've messed up a lot but everything I've told you about being in love with you is true. Dammit Sylvie, I love you! I love everything. From your eyes to the way you twist your watch when you get nervous."
He smiles lightly at her, his eyes lighting up when she mirrors it.
He gently releases their hands and moves one of them up to cup her cheek.
"Never in my whole life have I've ever felt this way with someone. Sometimes, it feels like we're already dating because of the connection we have. When I look at you, I see my future. And you're in every single part of it." He smiles lightly at her, his eyes lighting up when she mirrors it.
He gently releases their hands and moves one of them up to cup her cheek.
He stares at her, looking for any indication of how she felt.
She didn't say anything, just lept into his arms.
Small arms wrap around his back as she tucks her head under his chin.
He lifts her up and spins her around.
They stand in each other's embrace for a few more seconds before she pulls away.
He gets scared for a few seconds, but when she presses her softly lips to his, everything else fades away."I'm sorry for ever doubting you." She apologizes, guilt evident in her face.
He shrugs, "There's only one way you could make it up to me."
Her brows furrow as her face turns serious.
