Community Service and JCL

One thing that you might not expect JCL to be is a service club. But we are very big on helping out our community, and service hours even contribute to our school getting the torch! We had a trash pick up event earlier this year, and many people showed up. This weekend will be the Hunger Walk, an event brought to you by historian Rachael. FALL FORUM!!!

Exciting news! Fall Forum is soon! 

This is a required event for those wanting to go to convention. Think of it as a mini-convention, because other schools from around the state will be attending. Some of the featured events are Certamen, impromptu art, and a guest speaker. The location is Runnels High School on Saturday, October 26th.

An introduction to publicities

Salvete! For those of you who are new, publicities are a way to promote Latin and the classics. They are a school competition at convention, and can be virtually any form of media! All you have to do is take a photo of your publicity, fill out a form, and turn it in the tray at the back of the classroom.

Our 1st VP, Phoenix, will be having our very first publicity workshop. So don't worry if you're confused. We'll be painting pumpkins since Halloween is soon. Hope to see you there! 

Afterwards, we'll be heading to Cinemark at Perkins Rowe to watch Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. Sign up for rides now!

Car wash and ice cream social coming up!

Get excited, guys, because this Saturday's our annual car wash fundraiser! Be at Burger King at 9 and tell all your friends and family to get their car washed for free. Donations accepted, of course. ;)

Afterwards, we'll be heading to Olympia Park for a fun afternoon of ice cream and some exciting scavenger hunts. It's a potluck, so bring snacks!

Upcoming Guest Speaker this Wednesday!

Just a heads up about a new event this week.

here is a sign in sheet in Ms. Weydling's room for those interested in attending Chris Cochran's presentation on his Greek excavation experiences prior to Certamen, which will end at 4:00 PM. You might remember Mr. Cochran as the guy who made everyone frappes at the first Certamen practice of the year.

Because Shindig is tomorrow! This is traditionally the first official event of the year (excluding Certamen practices), where new Latin students can get a taste of JCL and get to know everyone a little better.

Expect food, ice breakers, and noodles. Pool noodles, I mean. ;)
