brhaneul:
― she had lost too much, too soon. haneul had seen ugly shades of pain color her life, and had lived in the shadows of the same ever since. it was hard, admittedly – even though all she was fed was on that poor sense of satisfaction, haneul tried to glimpse a life that wasn’t like that; and sometimes, it was quite impossible. from her scarred hands to bruised ribs, she was the exposed truth, she was metal bent so many times that was made malleable – unbroken, broken, unbroken again; all of that without having a tender hand to aid for her for so long.
she peered from the other side of the hall, fingers curling around loose strands of her long black hair; and the scent, ever so familiar, suffocated her for the fear that she swallowed and guilt that coated her stomach for feeling like that. fear was not something she was to know; nor maternal love. “ i was waiting. ” for what, exactly? the only moon heir had no idea, only that everything deemed that to be chaerin; except she wasn’t. “ are you… ready?”
seeing haneul always put a smile on her face. she was soft and malleable under her ruling hand. she was perfect in her destructive nature. she had summoned her for a very important task, reserved only for the young girl. it was a secret between the two of them, and they shared many of them. in fact, haneul was aware of the mystery surrounding chaerin’s original body. she had rewarded the child with such powerful information.
❝are you not feeling hungry? i am starving,❞ she implied, using the habitual tone of voice reserved for the other. in the way one would refer to a little child. her treatment towards the moon girl never changed. knowing needed of reassurance, chaerin was quick to dissipate haneul’s number one worry. it was him that made her doubt, but one human did not represent that much of a loss to the thirsty pureblood.
❝your father is not home. he is at the council.❞
chaerin’s eyes and ears spread like pollen in the air, but it was not enough yet. she lacked a name and a face to assign her hatred with. the thought of dropping her premeditated vengeance crossed her mind sometimes. she could be the ruin of all the hunters in a display of pure rage. ashes to ashes, dust to dust, for she was beyond immortality. however, word of mouth showed her a potential course of action.
a lone wolf chasing level a vampires. this did not surprise her in the least — for as long as she could remember, purebloods were the objective of treasure hunting for some. if they had not falsely declared her dead, chaerin would have been considered an elusive target. the key element of the story resided in his connections to a very well-known vampire. what power did he possess to command those death bringers? she wanted to discover more about him and the opportunity came.
haneul approached her, head down and tone low, with masquerade invitations for the family. thanks to a manifestation of luck, they were signed by the man she was after: im hyunmin. chaerin kept one envelope for herself and gave the rest to the youngest of the moons, under the agreement of getting her the most exquisite dress, my dear. haneulie, you will have fun. one of her many lies. diversion was a foreign concept for the girl she turned into a weapon.
and she upheld the promise for the night. while her beloved haneul looked magnificent, chaerin adorned few places of hyuna’s body with flowers, leaving almost nothing to the imagination. botticelli's venus arriving to the party of the year. it was rare for her to be among a crowd of people. guests approached to see the moving ivy wrapped around her tiny waist, yet she wanted the attention of the host. her choice of little garments was meant to make an impression, especially when she faced him.
she spotted him surrounded by a merry entourage. he was meant to pose his eyes on her.

NOT SURE WHAT TO EXPECT, YOONA couldn’t admit to feeling particularly surprised when hyuna spoke. she sounded different, her choice of words strange and unfamiliar coming from such a young visage, but yoona was not one to judge based on unconventional traits in anyone else. she wasn’t exactly a textbook vampire herself.
the witch had taken a neutral liking to the other vampire, but at the very least it was a liking nonetheless — or rather, a curiosity she sought out to clench. yoona knew she was not invincible and that there were many things she had yet to master — curing a vampire had never been on her agenda as she only cared a lukewarm amount for her own species, but hyuna had convinced her to at least try. and so she had: and failed.
she remained suspicious, but kept her countenance near expressionless as she took in hyuna’s small frame and bright eyes. she wasn’t sure if she looked better or worse, or if there had even been any transformation at all. «cloudy. the sun shouldn’t be too much of an inconvenience,» yoona replied, eyes still following the other vampire curiously. something was off — the witch seldom rested until she had answers. «are you going out ?»
chaerin made hyuna fake cough into her small fist. never in her life had she experienced the weakness caused by disease. despite the fact that the physique was ailing, the decay seemed to stop after she took over the moon girl. it was a matter of not destroying the vessel she had tended for several months. despite the time elapsed, she never learned to dominate the gestures and expressions that made up hyuna in her entirety. replacing another being was impossible, in the end, she was but a tool to reach her ultimate goal.
❝my current state is not the best. i should stay home,❞ she explained, albeit a bit breathlessly, yet it was all pretend. if yoona was able to discover the truth, she did not know, and she also did not care. perhaps a spark of interest would grow in the other woman, for chaerin-hyuna was a rare creature after all, an implausible chimera. the witches she had met in the past, they all wished for comprehension of the obscure. it was in their nature to tempt unpredictable forces. in chaerin, she would find a very turbulent one.

@brhyuna!
keys dangling between her fingers, ara’s whistling a random tune as she exits the cha residence. she’d promised to lock it up after her boss been called into one of his council meetings (boring!) so – like the great assistant she is – ara’s leaving one hour early and doing exactly that. it’s nice out, even despite the fact it’s nighttime, and she wonders if she should simply leave her car there and walk home. she could come by and pick it up tomorrow, despite it being her day off. lost in her thoughts, she ponders this for a minute—
there’s a rustle of leaves; a twig snaps into half. ara immediately turns around, wary. a human would have difficulties seeing, but as a vampire it’s quite easy to notice the shadow not quite disappearing into the night. but she doesn’t even need to see to know someone’s there. “who are you—” it’s not a regular person, there’s something off about this one. there’s a sense of dread in the pit of her stomach. this better not be one of those damn level e vampires who’ve been roaming about. her hand’s already in her purse; ever since she’d started to work here, she’s put jinho on speed dial. “—and what are you doing here?” and if speed dial isn’t speedy enough, there’s still her illusions.
although chaerin should gravitate towards the present, she cannot feel but trapped in the past. a particular reminiscence always goes through her mind. so clear that it brings her to what she supposes is the cha residence. chaerin found it easy to trespass on the property. she does not require of any permissions, being used to following her own wishes. the silence of her contemplation is interrupted by a newcomer. one of her kind, even if she perennial in comparison to the girl before her, whose feelings of panic are getting evident. how lovely.
❝do you happen to know the owner of this place?❞ she asks feebly, not paying attention to the other’s interrogation. chaerin’s need for knowledge comes first. her yearning never stops because there is a monster concealed inside of hyuna’s body. the appetizing taste of a guilty soul results in the only impediment from devouring everything standing in her way. however, this time she is experiencing mere curiosity. once her questions are answered by the vampire, she will decide how to proceed. chaerin’s gaze is still focused on the construction — a tour around the house is a reasonable petition as well.
chaerin could picture small haneul running from one corner of the room to the other, like a frightened bunny trying to reach the burrow while escaping from a hungry predator. still, she never presented herself to the girl in a threatening manner — her father suffered a different fate. although the pureblood’s existence was imposing, she took care of the only child under her own definition of guardianship. she saw her grow into the most powerful weapon, one that could bend at her will.
❝haneulie, my dear, are you there? won’t you come greet me?❞ it was a command hidden underneath sweet words, or the epitome of their interactions. haneul would appear in an instant, a follower of the trail of scented aroma chaerin exuded. the moons’ home was always cold no matter the season, but when she took over the place, the smell of cherry blossoms became yet another staple. a sign that chaerin was there to stay, a ghost to haunt the family forever.

COMPASSION WAS NOT ONE OF yoona’s most prominent traits, but no one could accuse her of not trying. it was a world of kill or get killed, and she had never been a prey — maybe that had been why she had turned to magic in the first place, curiosity mixed with that lingering want of becoming something more than she already was. it was an obsession, and she knew the dangers of obsessions, but along the way yoona had ceased to care much for consequences at all. she knew that with every wish came a price, and her insatiable curiosity was not so easily fed.
she often failed, she knew that was only a part of her work that couldn’t be avoided, but in her search for a particular cure had she formed something akin to a liking for hyuna. it had been a while since she had last seen the younger vampire and as she was in that general area on that very day she had decided to pay her a visit. her work had been futile, hyuna’s body fighting all of yoona’s attempts, and whilst she was now deemed a lost cause in yoona’s eyes a visit could hardly hurt.
the small vampire knocked on the door, waiting patiently for any answer even if she most likely could’ve unlocked the door and entered had she wanted to. she was nothing if not patient and polite though, and when the door opened yoona greeted with an easy smile. «sorry to swing by unannounced, i was in the neighborhood,» she explained, «i figured i’d see how you were doing.»
chaerin never got used to hyuna’s impotent body. the girl could barely command the freezing point of water in her delicacy. if she made her cross the limit, she always ran the risk of turning the vampire into dust. her strange disease served to mask the real identity controlling her mind and limbs. plus, her urgency to get better made her the perfect vessel to take over. at least she had a pretty face, just the way she liked them.
haneul and her father made sure to tell chaerin everything about hyuna. however, not much was found concerning her social life. the moon girl could not brag about having many acquaintances. her house was a golden cage that protected her from the outside world — a story she was familiar with. this is why when the knocking announced a guest, she experienced surprise. it would not be correct to ignore the person behind the door: yoona.
❝one like me judges every day in a similar way,❞ she replied in a monotone tone, using hyuna’s sheepish voice. according to the previous investigation, the sickly child had looked for a solution to her fragile health in the sorceress, but no effective result was found. hyuna found the witch interesting, then again, she usually spotted wonders in every individual she met. the perks of a self-imposed isolation, she guessed.
❝how is the weather? is it adequate for me?❞ chaerin asked her in return, out of mere politeness. it took her years of practice to learn small talk. mistakes were still a thing. yoona’s answer did not mean anything, for she would take her parasol with her in any situation.
