Skin

I’m wrapped in skin that’s not yours

Olive deep tones that hail from a land

Your people never stepped in

The nose I hated so much

Came from a man who might’ve made me

Appreciate how it protruded and curved

In ways yours didn’t

But he didn’t

So I didn’t

This body is mine even though

I don’t understand it yet

But I’ve been subconsciously fighting

Against it for years

Hoping maybe that by rejecting it

I’d feel closer to you

And I do, I think,

But I lost me in the process.

In my darkness

Morbid curiosity

Lead me deep

Into your darkness

And as we sat

In the bottom of your hole
