this is a reference to a specific Halloween tradition that popped up in the US at least as early as the late 19th century (and probably has earlier roots)!
through various rituals, a young woman could look in a mirror and see the face of her future husband. my favorite- because it sounds like a dangerous and absolutely terrible idea -was walking backwards up a flight of stairs with a mirror in one hand and a candle in the other
in this case, the girl is being a bit foolish- there's a photo of a young man on the wall behind her, and it's clear that that's what she's seeing in her mirror. hence the joke
(no mirror? no problem! simply throw one end of a ball of yarn out the window, keeping hold of the other end, and wind it back up while chanting "I wind; who holds?" you will see a vision of your future husband holding the other end of the yarn. one variation instructs you to throw it through the window of an abandoned house, which seems like a good way to end up thinking you'll be married to a very confused local squatter)
(all the rituals mention young women seeking visions of future husbands, not the other way around. I guess the boys were all out smashing mailboxes or something)
It depends on the ritual, but there definitely ones that the boys participated in too! It looks like some moms were secretly setting up their daughters in some cases, which is kind of sweet.
To see into the future, young women held mystical meals.

#IndigenousPeoplesDay is a reminder to never condemn Indigenous resistance to colonialism.
The USA is a colonial settler state that continues to illegally occupy stolen land we have always belonged to and all they let us have is day to share with Columbus.
A leftist who talks about dismantling the US imperialist empire but excludes restoring stewardship of the land it's been illegally occupying for 500 years to it's original Indigenous caretakers is just continuing its legacy of colonialism & Indigenous erasure #landback
It's spooky time again
