“Ughhhhh,” Adam groaned out. “If I ever get to the point where I’m walking around with you using a walker, please just shoot me and put me out of my misery. It’s the only way at that point,” Adam said with a laugh. “The flames do sound pretty cool, though, good choice on that one.” Once Adam got down to the podium, he had to admit that he was pretty nervous at this point. “Firstly,” he said into the mic, “I’d like to say you’re welcome for getting you all out of class,” he said, resulting in a few laughs from the students. “Instead, however, you get to watch this brief powerpoint presentation,” he said, pointing a clicker to the projector screen behind him. It was a presentation on the importance of school, though it didn’t really go that deep and was rather jokey and light-hearted. “Anyway,” he stated a bit later as he got through the presentation. “The point is, school is great,” he added, flipping to a slide of an image of the front of their school. “I get it. Believe it or not, I was young once, but school continues to bring me great things, even as a teacher. To be candid with you, I never wanted to be a teacher, and I suppose it is a bit cheesy to say, but please allow it just this once from me. I think that fate really does have a funny way of working things out in the end. After all, had I never become a teacher and been at this school, I never would have met you lot of brats who I’ve come to tolerate. Plus, you know I wouldn’t have met my wonderful beautiful girlfriend, Ms. Larson,” he said, moving his hand to motion to her direction in the bleachers resulting with a series of ooo’s from the kids. A lot of you had a hand in helping two stubborn adults come together, which is just ridiculous really,” Adam laughed nervously. “I digress, this places holds a special place to me and that’s why I felt it was important and asked the Principal to do me a favor and put together this assembly, so that I could do this and hopefully not make a fool of myself in front of everyone or else you guys are going to have to find a new Science and History teacher,” he chuckled, hitting the clicker to turn to the next slide that read “Miss Larson, will you marry me?”

“At this rate I am pretty sure I will be in the walker before you.” Brie laughed. “Oh, of course, I will always make you look cool.” She winked at him. Brie looked really confused at Adam started to speak, he hadn’t mentioned to her that he was going to be speaking at the assembly, but there he was. She laught at his jokes, which of course tied in with a presentation. She put her hand to her face when he pointed her out, waving to all the kids. Brie let out a gasp when she saw the next slide. She had to read it three times before she rook in what it was saying. Her eyes were starting to fill with tears as she quickly scurried to the front of the assembly and met Adam, holding his face and giving him a kiss. Was this really happening? Brie took at step back, unable to help the smile on her face. “Yes, yes, I will marry you.” She said, going to kiss him once more.

“There is no way for you to prove or disprove any of that, so you’ll just have to take my word on it,” Adam mused playfully. He scoffed again when Brie said that she knew she was funny. “You shouldn’t be so mean to me. I could fall and break a hip at any given time and then you’ll just feel bad,” he joked. Adam locked his pinky finger back around Brie’s, thankful for the subtle and calming touch. “Of course. Happy birthday,” he responded. When the Vice Principal started the assembly, he turned his attention forward. After saying a few general house keeping things, the VP stated that Mr. Scott had an announcement to make and if he could come to the podium. “Oh, I guess that’s me, isn’t it?” he chuckled to Brie, standing up and making his way down there.

“Take your word? You’re asking a lot of me, Mr Scott.” Brie teased. “Oh, no. I already have your zimmer frame picked out. It’s really cool, had flames going up the side and everything.” She teased. Brie felt so at ease with Adam. He got her in every way. when she fell pregnant with Juliet she wasn't sure how he would react, she didn’t want him to feel she was taking over or stepping on the toes of his ex. But he accepted her, she had never been more in love. Brie furrowed her eyebrows together when they said Mr Scott hs an announcement. “What- Where- How?” she asked but he was already making his way down to the floor.

“Whaaat? I could totally be the defiant one! Pfff,” Adam defended with a scoff. “Ohhh, you think that you’re soooo funny,” he replied to her joke about writing with a feather and ink and the quip on his age. “Puns, huh? Seems that I’ve rubbed off on you,” he said with a cheeky grin. Once they were seated, Adam kept his eyes darting around the room, seeing what was going on with all the students and such, his fingers tapping nervously against his legs. “Pffff, I refuse to let that guy take my credit!” Adam responded, shaking his head and then looking forward as it seemed the assembly was starting.

“Mmmh, sure.” Brie said, a smile on her lips. She felt so lucky to be with Adam. Her life was so much better with him in it. “Correction, I know I’m funny.” She teased him. Brie always felt like she could be herself around Adam, it was highly important to her. “Oh no, seems you have.” She teased. When the sat down Brie locked her pinky finger around his. It was no secret they were dating but she never showed and PDA in school to remain professional. This, however, she figured she could get away with. “I loved it, thank you, babe.” Brie said, turning to him with a smile.

“He is quite dull, isn’t he? It sucks being the teacher and having to be the responsible one. I miss being the student and getting to be the defiant one,” Adam joked with a slight chuckle. “Even though it’s been probably a literal million years since then,” he added. Truthfully, he definitely wasn’t a delinquent in school and was way more of a nerd. “Ohhh, cloud cover? That sounds riveting. They should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for taking that away. An absolute travesty,” Adam shook his head. “Ah, yes. Good ol’ DARE meetings,” Adam said as they made their way into the gym and he took a seat in the teachers section of the bleachers. “What? Does it look cute? I have no idea who could have possibly done that,” he mused.

“So dull.” Brie said. She looked at her boyfriend with a smile. “You? the defiant one? I find that hard to believe.” She teased, smiling at him. “Gosh, so many years. Did they all right with the feather and ink when you were in school?” She laughed. “Really should. I am puns and everything.” Brie said. Truthfully, she didn’t mind the assembly, even if it meant moving around her classes, she didn’t mind getting out of work for an hour. Brie sat next to Adam, smoothing out her dress as she sat down. “It looks adorable.” She said. “I think it was the janitor. He looks really crafty.” Brie laughed.

Adam did feel bad that Brie had to work on her birthday, but at least he got to spend it with her. Him and a few other students had already stuck in that morning and decorated her classroom, just little things to make it a bit more special. When the teachers had been told there would be an assembly, he was partially happy he didn’t have to teach, but also irritated they interrupted his lesson plan. Still, the students were happy because it got them out of class. “Hey there, birthday girl,” Adam said as she appeared suddenly when they were all shuffling towards the gym where the assembly was held. “Oh geez, if it is, I might try to sneak out with the rest of the stoner kids that always try to,” Adam laughed, resisting his urge to put his arm around her with all the students around. “My class couldn’t get out of the room fast enough with the announcement. What do you think this is about?” he asked.

When Brie started at the school, she had no idea how much it would change her life. As soon as she met Adam, she had a crush on him but thought there was no way he would feel the same. Now, they had been dating a few years and she had fallen in love with Jacob and they had Juliet. It was perfect. Brie laughed at his words. “I don’t blame you. It has to be better than listening to him.” Brie said in a low chuckle. “Oh, same. And to think I had a reat lesson about cloud cover today.” She teased. “Probably one of those don’t do drug things.” She said. “I hope once the classes are settled the teachers can go back to class.” She said. “As my classroom is looking extra cute today, would you know who did that?”

Brie didn’t mind having to work on her birthday, with the job she had it was something that she was used to but she was lucky enough that she loved her job that wasn’t too bad. There was also the added bonus that she worked with her boyfriend, so she felt extra lucky. She had checked her emails in the morning and saw the email about the assembly, it was annoying when there was no warning, it meant she had to shift around her lesson plans but it wasn’t the end of the world. Their classes had been told just to report to the hall for the assembly so Brie went to Adams class to find him before heading down. “I swear, if it is the Principal giving this assembly then we will be in there till home time.” She chuckled, greeting him with a kiss on the cheek.
