...which pretty much explains why we haven't updated since May. I am starting to hate myself for prefacing nearly every post with something to the effect of "sorry about the lack of updates". Once again, my apologies. Despite this pathetic lack of anything, I would not want anyone to think we haven't been busy. This is what is up...

- Eyeswithoutaface have finished their new record Warguts, and it's out November 11th. It features a super exclusive guest spot from Yegor Zacharov of Kosmograd/Homolka and some back-up vocals from various members of tig.erve nom, Horselover and Sky of Sound. As usual, the whole album was written and produced by EWAF and mixed/mastered by Mike Szarejko. You can download it free from http://eyeswithoutafacehq.bandcamp.com on the release date, and in the meantime you can check out a new track at http://soundcloud.com/lucio-felchi/eyeswithoutaface-dead-friends. A vinyl release in the new year through Briefcase Show is impending. They played their first show since the tour on October 27th with Thighs, Horselover, Lung and numerous others, which went splendidly, and have a couple of wild upcoming show announcements which we will inform you of once solidified.

- Lung has broken up. Aidan and Kyle are doing Pretty Mouth with Andrew of the (now sadly defunct) Blind Surgeons Operation and Lance of Anger, which is not far off stylistically. Nick is doing tig.erve nom as usual, Joe is continuing with the oOohh Baby Gimme Mores, and Lucas has a bunch of projects on the go which deserve their own post once they are ready for presentation. RIP.

- Vices is in the preproduction stages of their upcoming full-length, Caligula: More Music From The Motion Picture. They did a ton of awesome shows recently with InAeona, Enabler, Vilipend and numerous others, and are limiting their live appearances till the end of the year to focus on the record, but we can exclusively reveal that they will be playing the Soybomb New Years celebration along with a bunch of other great bands, as well as doing one other downtown show before then. Stay tuned.

- Mike of EWAF's solo project, Morbido Bis, is nearing completion. Max and Tuka of EWAF both appear, and it is a wild concoction of doomy noise/experimental that is sure to blow heads like that dead clothes designer.

- Kosmograd is recording new stuff, for a possible upcoming split release/EP. More on that later.

- Two new tig.erve nom releases before the end of the year - Question Sleep and remix EP called Revenomated. Question Sleep will be out in late December, and a video for lead-off track "Gin & Tronics" will be dropping before then. Revenomated will come in the early new year. Some awesome guests on both of those as well.

- Homolka is finished recording their upcoming split with the awesome UK grind band Human Cull. This will be released on limited pro cassette through Delicate Artifacts here and Goatprayer in Europe in early January.

Lots of stuff in the pipeline, so keep checking this page and I might just post something at some point in the next eon or two!

General update of all things Briefcasey

Ahoy there folks! I have sorely neglected this tumblr, and while I won't offer a guarantee that will change, I will summarize some of the stuff that has been going on in the Briefcase camp as of late.

- Homolka is working on their second demo, and playing their live debut on May 20th with Nasum and Brutal Truth. Here is the event page for all interested. http://www.facebook.com/events/377044425650251/

- Eyeswithoutaface are doing a five-day Southern Ontario/Quebec run with The Blind Surgeons Operation and Lung, with numerous friends and locals jumping on various dates. Go to http://www.facebook.com/events/400593073308718/ for a general overview.

- The Vices/Eyeswithoutaface split will be released on vinyl in July, with a digital release tomorrow (May 8th).

- Recording has commenced on the next Eyeswithoutaface full-length, Warguts, with a tentative September release planned.

- ti.gerve nom are hard at work on a remix release as well as a brand new EP's worth of material. More details when they are closer to be concrete.

In the next couple of days I will be posting some specific info elaborating on some of this stuff, so stay tuned. In the meantime, thank you for your tolerance of my slackness.

Clocking in at five tracks in just under six minutes, it is basically a barrage of furious grindcore with unrelentingly misanthropic lyrics and obnoxiously aggressive performances. Briefcase Show Year End Frrrrrrrttttttt

Yeah, I'm aware this was somewhat belated, but none the less, voila! We capped the year off triumphantly with the Eyesorestopperwithoutaface Fundraiser & Box Social, which was awesome and bizarre in equal measure, as well as Vicemaker's set at the Soymbomb New Years Party , which was expectedly rowdy and drunken, and the release of tig.erve nom's debut EP. Naturally, however, this is only the beginning, and 2012 promises to well and truly be the year of the briefcase. I have decided to ask a handful of friends and associates to toss me a year-end list for this posts, to provide a contrast with my own rambling anal-retentive contributions, but first off, some acknowledgements/statements...

First off, I'd like to thank everyone we've worked with and all of the bands we've gotten to know and do stuff with over the past year. We've gotten a whole bunch of music out there, played/promoted some great gigs and made some good friends, none of which would have been possible without the help of a dedicated group of supporters, so thank you again. There are too many of you to name by name, but rest assured, if you think you are one of these people, you probably are.

Secondly, stay tuned in the coming weeks, as this page will be updated MUCH more frequently with articles, interviews, show information and release schedules for all affiliated artists within the coming months. In a couple of days we will be making some big-ish announcements so don't fuck around and miss out on all the craziness.

Toronto/Chicago noise unit Urine Cop go straight for the jugular with this split cassette of blast beats and raw noise featuring members of Winters in Osaka and The Endless Blockade. Urine Cop run through their track, "War. Cough Syrup. Death", in less than 8 minutes, and it's chock full of thick distorted backdrops and manipulated high end screeches accented by (better recording quality then the demo) blast beats. The sounds bring to mind Lightning Bolt getting the humor beaten out of them by Whitehouse and then jacked by a goregrind band. Having shared the stage with them at their only local show a year ago, I can only advise fans of Throbbing Gristle, Whitehouse and Last Days of Humanity not to miss this band or release, but if you’re at their show, don’t go out for a smoke when they're setting up, because they’ll be done by the time you get back in.

Black Skies are a three piece sludge/post-metal unit from Carrboro, North Carolina that will be eating all attendees alive at Sneaky Dees on November 23nd with Kosmograd and Pyres. Laying down a meaty foundation of mid-tempo stoner grooves with gruff vocal hooks and powerful riffing dynamics, Black Skies take the template laid down by contemporaries such as Kylesa, Baroness and Red Fang and strip it down to the gritty essentials leaving no beards unsinged. Sure to be one of the heaviest shows we've done yet. Stream their new record free right here.

Halloween weekend hoedown

So, while some of you are inevitably bound for some of the more high-profile events occurring this weekend, or dressing up like an eight-year-old in a robot costume and trick-or-treating like I originally planned, I felt I should make a point of mentioning some of the Briefcase Show related items of interest occurring between now and the end of the month. This is a stacked weekend by any measurement and I hope to see some of you drop in!

First off, Saturday night (the 29th) the Central in Mirvish Village will play host to the debut performance of tig.erve nom. Featuring Eyeswithoutaface guitarist/mastermind Mike Szarejko on the laptop and Syntaqst Error frontman Nick Patchell on vocals, tig.erve nom sounds like a gruesome collision of beat-driven electro/dubstep and hard-boozing post-hardcore, like Head Automatica on PCP, only with more Crohn's Disease. Bludsport will be opening with some thick wobbly tones to set the mood, and this place has Flying Monkey Netherworld on tap so there is pretty much no better place to drink. All that said, be sure to hit the LCBO before it closes anyways, because Siesta Nouveaux's BYOB policy will be in FULL effect that very same evening for the Halloween Masquerade Massacre party. Featuring Teethmarks, Briefcase Show's own Kosmograd, Jefferson Deathstar and John Smith, this is sure to be a nice balance of violent and pleasing, not that the two have ever been mutually exclusive. Those who've attended some recent and not so recent events we've done know what to expect from most of these artists, as three out of the four are friends and collaborators, so make sure you trek it down there and make an appearance no matter what else you're doing that evening, or the joke will well and truly be on you. Moving on, Devil's Night (Sunday the 30th) in Ajax is shaping up to be a maelstrom of abrasion and uncompromising heaviness. Salt Lake City's metallic hardcore/sludgemongers Gaza will be headlining the Top Shelf along with Terror Spells, I Destroyer, and Briefcase Show's own Eyeswithoutaface. While this technically isn't a GTA show (to me, anything east of the Don is basically Scarborough anyways), there is very little chance of this evening being anything less than spectacular, and I encourage any of you that can make it out to not fuck around and do so. EWAF will have shirts, CDs and tapes at this gig for cheap, and we're looking forward to tearing it up in Durham region for the first time and probably the last until our split with Vices comes out at the top of the New Year.
