âMy dearest, darling Sidney,â
There was nothing else. Only dead white paper, blank and meaningless. A comma, followed by nothing. Death summed up by grammar.
Elwood mouthed the words. âMy,â just the word âmyâ would have been enough to live on, if Gaunt had ever called him that to his face.
âHe never called me Sidney. Not once, in five years.â
âcan you hear them?â
âNow the weights too muchâ
âTell me all the time not to worryâ
oliver marks went to prison to protect james. he was not ready to give up college for his sister, but willingly went to 10 yrs in prison for james. he said "Itâs not the whole truth. The whole truth is, Iâm in love with him still" after 10yrs of suffering. and some y'all are settling for ppl who believe long distance doesn't work. they were separated for 10 fucking years and oliver was still was in love with james.
day 2 of raising standards for me and whoever stumbles across this on the internet.
i think out of everyone James' story is the saddest. He was so full of life and potential but the second Richard held him under that water, he changed. A part of him died that night.
Doomed by the narrative that one
when oliver marks said "i didn't want to leave him" and "he seemed so fragile i was afraid to touch him" and "i wanted to give richard ten bruises for every one he'd put on james" and "[i] was still holding james but not sure why" and "i wanted him [...] unhurt and unafraid more than i wanted richard alive" and "james, are you okay?" "you okay?" "something's bothering you?" "are you sure?" "are you alright?" "can you tell me what's wrong?" "i just want to help, let me help, okay?" "you can tell me. even if it's bad, even if it's really bad" "it's okay" "it'll be okay" "we'll find a way to fix this" "we'll sort it out" "we'll figure it out" "you know why."
this book. we can't let m l rio get away with this
thinking about how james farrow chose a passage from pericles, a play where someone is thought to have dead at sea only to be reunited with the protagonist, as his letter to oliver makes me feral
