Updated intro post as of 9/16/25: hello and welcome to the internet home of my beloved sighthounds.
My name is Meghan and I am in my 30s. I'm a writer, nature lover, and as of January 2025, I am also a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner -- meaning I went through the KPA Dog Trainer Professional program to become a dog trainer.
I started this blog in 2012 as a way for me to chronicle my life with my deeply beloved 🌻💖Hazel💖🌻, a retired racing greyhound and the first dog who was just mine.
Hazel came home on September 23, 2012, through Greyhound Friends of NJ, and quickly became the most brilliant light of my life. Opinionated, intelligent, and always certain of what she wanted in life, she was an incredible animal to share my life with and I feel her absence keenly. She left us on February 29, 2024, at the age of 13.
You can get a good idea of who she was and what her life was like in my tribute to her here. I would love it if you read that; I would love for you to know her.
If you go back through the archive you can see photos of Hazel starting from the age of 1 year & 7 months old, going all the way through to 13 years & two months old. We had so many adventures, trials, joys, and journeys together over our eleven+ years together. She saw me through my twenties into my thirties and I truly believe will never have the same bond with another dog.
On September 10, 2022 (when Hazel was 11), I brought home a little black-and-white whippet who I named ⚡Evelyn.⚡
Evelyn was a former show dog who retired early due to toe crimes (she stands with her toes pointed in). She was born on May 22, 2021. She is a clever, strange, and wonderful creature, and her silliest behavior and/or most egregious crimes are often tagged #whippetry. Evelyn was my "partner dog" throughout Karen Pryor Academy, and I really couldn't have asked for a better partner.
And most recently, on June 29, 2024, after much hoping and dreaming I brought home a fawn brindle whippet puppy named
🍀Florence.🍀
She was born on St. Patrick’s Day, 3/17/24. She has grown up to be a big, goofy, silly girl, a friend to everyone, full of exuberance and joy. I hope we have many years of adventures ahead of us.
You may also occasionally see Hailey here, a black-and-tan hound mix who belongs to my parents. Here’s a photo of Hazel, Evelyn, and Hailey together, as the trio they were for a time:
For the most part, I just share photos of and updates/anecdotes about the dogs here. I often express my thoughts in the moment about my dogs, so I can look back on them later. In the past I have occasionally shared some writing.
I do take virtual dog training clients, so if you're interested in working with me you can message me for more info or go to my website. If you'd like to get a better idea of my training philosophy, my dog training Instagram (where I am sporadically active) is sunflowercaninecoaching.🌻
I have also written a free mini-guide ebook on strategies for dog enrichment when you are low on spoons. I'm chronically ill myself and wrote this from lived experience -- what do you do when you wake up feeling like garbage, but your dog still needs you? (The ebook is totally free to download, no sign ups or anything. If you want to support me, you can pay for it, but otherwise please feel free to download for $0.)
I like having this blog as a record of my dogs’ lives to look back on, and that’s its primary purpose, though I do enjoy the community aspect as well. I’m generally happy to answer asks. My main blog where follows will come from is @still-sunlit.
I will also say that I don’t tolerate bigots of any kind, TERFs included. <3
