will didn't expect to like mack. he signed a year early and "betrayed" his friends because he wanted to establish himself in the sharks either before him or the same time as him. he was the "savior" center before mack. he didn't want to join a year later and be an afterthought. it was a strategic decision. but he fell in love and hard. here was this boy who was obsessed with him and his hockey and who did everything he said off ice (his dream) but also couldn't feel superior to like he does to his harem. someone whose drive will admired. he also loves that the player everyone wants a piece of chooses and prefers HIM over everyone else. yeah will is in deep but imo mack is still coming around, nobody told him yet the obsession he feels for his first (unrelated) best friend is not platonic. (and will won't be the one to tell him) that's why mack falters sometimes (like if somebody calls them weird he denies their connection) and they fight. btw I don't think will expects anything at all, but can't help but be jealous and possesive and mack doesn't think having will is even an option he can have like that; he just thinks these big feelings are cause of his macklinism. (being too much)

i love this! macklin being under the impression that his feelings for will are completely platonic and everyone must feel this way about their best friend. he think it’s normal to want to do EVERYTHING and more — they’re best friends! that’s normal right?!

also will preferring to let mack come into his own discovery bc will thinks it’ll be so worth it >>. they’re both in their own little states of confusion and denial but it’s a different type of yearning.

also will getting back cool w his friends and spending every hang out talking about mack and defending his honor. mack spending his time back home facetiming will whenever he finds himself talking about him “too much”.

y'all need to remember will lies like constantly. he lied about committing to BC BEFORE leno (it was after) and he lied about signing his ELC BEFORE the drraft lottery (it was also after). he knows he is lying too, he always says I think before it so if his previous quotes are brought up he could say he misremembered. he knows who mack is ("I keep notes", "we're not worried about them or HIM" etc) he just says I think cause he wants to seem cool

Honestly it’s not your fault and I totally get the joy in playing around with these kind of things.

I think the issue (again, not really about you) is that some people take these things as absolute truth. The amount of people outside this app who I’ve seen genuinely convinced the one-sided rivalry is a fact? Confirmed and everything? Slightly concerns me. And that’s just one example.

To me it feels like the line between rpf and reality has become so blurry that some can’t recognize the difference anymore. Which again, not your issue, but I guess that’s why it can rile people up.

yeah, i get that!! i thought my post was just cute little fun and wasn’t intended to be the absolute truth given it’s just rpf fun but i can absolutely understand why people would be upset at treating it as an actual fact outside of this context!

whenever i talk to people abt hockey who dont really know about the rivalries or duos, i don’t act as if its a fact and i usually explain both sides to what they’ve said from their own mouths during interviews, LOL.

it’s so easy for me to get upset — but i guess that’s my fault given i tend to loosely phrase things with the hopes others will understand and pick or add to my pieces.

i literally have never downplayed will competitiveness when it comes to hockey, he is a known hockey nerd and he shows that through ever other interview. girl sometimes i like to rpf and play into the narrative that he didn’t care as much abt mack as mack cared about him. for me it’s because will comes off as more lowkey than mack does, even when he voices his thoughts.

they’re both highly competitive in different ways, yes they have similarities but that’s usually how it goes 😭.

Wait… we’re talking about the same Macklin Celebrini who scored a historic 5 goals in 1 game on the Steel against the US NTDP at the ripe age of 16? The same one who won the Hobey Baker as the youngest college hockey player EVER against Will who was also nominated for the award?

Not sure why people love the narrative that their rivalry was one-sided, but I think Will was VERY aware of Mack and they silently kept tabs on each other . From his own mouth, Will has said they were rivals and never spoke to each other during any of the many times they faced off until the Sharks dev camp.

I think you’re not giving Will enough credit for how hockey obsessed and competitive he is as a player.

i also don’t think it’s that serious. i’m aware of how hockey obsessed and competitive will is as a player. OBVIOUSLY they knew of one another, they obviously kept tabs on one another. they knew each other considering the hockey world is small and they were both making insane moves at young ages.

their rivalry being one sided comes from a rpf perspective mainly and i do not play into it as much when im have a serious conversation about their time before the nhl. this is just fun.

like again, i will always give credit to will when it comes to how he is as a hockey player & how great he is. PLEASE.

respectfully disagree with the first part. Mack might have loved Will first (I’d argue it was more attraction vs Will falling quicker than he could’ve even imagined) but he also held a grudge. Rivalry superseding any other feelings.

Because it was Will who “opened him up”. Will who by all designs would have had his own reasons to hold a grudge (different reason than Mack but still) decided that Canadian boy is who I’m doing this with. We’re going to be the next Patty and Jumbo, have our banners hanging next to one another at SAP center (not even 5 minutes into their rookie season btw, Will Smith Planner in full action).

And not gaf? That man has never not gaf a day in his life, I’m sorry. He might be better at hiding it but he also said it himself, he never forgets. See control freak (affectionate)

i think will holding a grudge/rivalry would’ve been bc he knows he’s supposed to but actually not caring as much as mack did. ofc i don’t actually know will but he seems like the type to chat with a tree if it let him, LMFAO.

i use him not giving a fuck in a way of him thinking mack harboring the ‘hatred’ from the rivalry as complete nonsense hence the “whatever you say,” thing — it’s just so fun to think of mack having all that going on and smit not even giving him a fraction of a thought.

thinking about how easily mack and will became friends —mack wanted that man bad. we always say it was will who fell first. girl mack was strategizing before will could even gaf.

will “whatever you say man,” smith. they’re lowkey both control freaks in different ways — mack likes getting his way and doing less work whereas smit prefers to be doing it all so it goes HIS way. i.e driving, picking places, planning. mack will agree to anything if will is driving and he’ll pay.

william didn’t expect to be so captivated by mack, he knew he was in love for sure when mack broke his windshield and didn’t care because he’d be paying for it anyway. that’s his boy.
