dahliahuang:
Dahlia just wished she had some bourbon in a flask to take the edge off. Last thing she wanted was to have someone look at her with judgy eyes. âAlright, hear me out â- I know it might sound weird but⊠do you have any idea how Iâm supposed to do Princess Leia buns and have them stay up all day?â
âI --" Brinley started but stopped talking for a moment. âI have absolutely no idea, Iâm sorry,â she said and laughed as she placed her coffee cup down on the table in front of her. âWe can YouTube it, if you want? I mean, thereâs gotta be something on there that will work. Why are you having buns as Princess Leia on your head? Are you going to a costume party or something?â Brinley questioned curiously as she typed it into her computer.Â
maxmatthews:
âThirtyâs old,â Max argued with a groan. âThirtyâs likeâŠâhey letâs have some kidsâ age. I donât wanna be that age. I feel like I still am a kid.â She let out a sigh as Brinley spoke. âAh, to be twenty-seven again.I was living in New York then. Feels like a lifetime ago.â Her smile left her face, but she quickly forced a new one. âYou donât know how excited I am to be the one drinking the alcohol tonight instead of serving it,â she chuckled. âIâm glad I stopped by the bench too,â she said as she bumped Brinleyâs shoulder in return. âWell, I gladly take the role of your going out friend, because I will never, ever turn a night out down unless Iâm on my death bed. Even then, stick a party hat on me and Iâd be good to go from the bed,â she laughed.Â
âThirty isnât old, come on.â Shaking her head, Brinley listened to Max explain how it was a hey, letâs make some kids age and how she didnât wanna be that age yet. How she still felt like a kid herself and Brinley could definitely recognize herself in that. Ah, to be twenty-seven again. I was living in New York then. âYouâve lived in New York? Wow. Iâm jealous,â she said and chuckled softly as she kept her eyes trained on Max the whole time. You donât know how excited I am to be the one drinking the alcohol tonight instead of serving it. âOh, right. Youâre a bartender, arenât you? I mean, that profession must be really awesome though. The stories you hear,â she continued and chuckled softly. Iâm glad I stopped by the bench too. Brinley nodded and swallowed when Max bumped her shoulder in return. Even then, stick a party hat on me and Iâd be good to go from the bed. Brinley laughed and shook her head at the words coming from Maxâs mouth. She really liked her -she was funny, and she definitely knew how to make her laugh. âIf youâre sick, Iâll be bringing you soup, not a party-hat, Max Iâm sorry to disappoint.âÂ
littletullia:
Tullia smiled at the other woman and shook her head. âNo, no, Iâm sorry if I bothered you,â she said. âI was just hoping I could have a seat.â She hefted her own book. âIt seems like this is the first time weâve seen the sun in forever, so I wanted to take advantage of it.â
âWhat? No, youâre not -- Youâre not bothering me. Itâs fine. Please, sit.â She scooted over on the bench, giving the girl some space so she could sit down. âIâm sorry for hogging the whole bench,â Brinley said and shook her head with a soft smile on her lips. âI got so lost in this that I completely forgot that other people might wanna sit down too.â Rolling her eyes at herself, she turned her head and looked at the book the other one had pulled out. It seems like this is the first time weâve seen the sun in forever, so I wanted to take advantage of it. âYeah. I - I know what you mean. Same with me, actually. I - Iâm on my lunch break right now, but wanted to sit out here instead. Soak up a little sun, you know,â she spoke and giggled. âWhat are you reading?â Â
dilldexter:
The way sheâd been trying to compose herself wasnât hard to miss. It was fairly obvious that this wasnât where she wanted to be, but rather, where she needed to find herself in. If he really thought about it, though, and like sheâd pointed out, no one really liked hospitals. He shifted his head a bit from side to side as he considered her words and, âYeah, I guess thatâs true.â He scoffed when she offered to pay for the damages, finding it a kind but unnecessary act. Especially one coming from money, he was never one to ask for it from anyone else besides his parents. âNo, are you kidding? No, donât sweat it, alright? Weâre good. I promise.â A frown found its place on his lips, settling in as he looked at her with confusion and disappointment. âOh? Thatâs odd. She probably had to do something more important. Or probably just trying to save her ass from this.â He gestured towards the room. He didnât sign up for the counseling sessions, finding them totally unhelpful, and he didnât want to sit in a room with people sitting in a circle sharing their sob stories. Wouldnât that make you feel even more depressed? It was how he looked at it, anyway. Instead, he decided to try and find his own ways of remedying the grief he was still feeling after his fatherâs death.Â
He gave her a single nod, more of a tilt of the head, really, as she introduced herself. ââsup. Iâm Dill,â he said, offering her his most charming smile.
No, are you kidding? No, donât sweat it, alright? Weâre good, I promise. Brinley swallowed and looked at the male, nodding her head and pushing some of her hair back as he said they were good, and she guessed she would just have to believe him. Oh? Thatâs odd. She probably had to do something more important. She swallowed the lump in her throat and nodded, although going to therapy was rather important, whether or not she liked being there herself. Or probably just trying to save her ass from this. Brinley laughed and nodded, moving a hand to the back of her neck. âYeah, probably that,â she said and hummed. âItâs not really that bad, itâs just today... It was just a little too much straight away, you know?â she spoke and shrugged her shoulders before looking at him.Â
Brinleyâs cheeks continued to blush furiously when he tilted his head and smiled at her. Sup. Iâm Dill. The brunette laughed and shook her head, her eyes trained on him until she blinked and turned her gaze somewhere else. âI didnât know people actually said sup anymore,â she said teasingly, lifting her head and raising an eyebrow at him. Shaking her head once more, she moved her hands to her shirt and began to play with the edge of it. âSo, since your sister ainât here... Iâm guessing youâre gonna head out?âÂ
alexknights:
Now that she isnât reading and he has a better look at her face, he realizes sheâs not the person heâs supposed to meet with. âIâm sorry. I thought you were someone else.â He stuffs his hands into the pocket of his jacket and scans the area around them for another brunette.
âOh. Itâs okay. Happen all the time.â Brinley smiled weakly at the man and swallowed, keeping her hands pressed against the top of the book, keeping it closed. âYou can- I mean, you can sit down if you want and wait until your friend gets here?â she suggested and scooted over a little, giving the male more room to sit down. âMaybe sheâs just running late, I mean, the traffic these last couple of days have been insane,â she spoke and shrugged as she continued to tap her fingertips against the cover of the book.Â
maxmatthews:
âIâm thirty in a month, Brin. Thirty. Thatâs ten years from forty, and thatâs when my life is truly over,â Max sighed dramatically. She gave her two thumbs up as they agreed on the place to go, grabbing her drink to finish it as Brinley left. She didnât expect her day to end up the way it had - she was prepared to spend a night in bed with Netflix,  but the current plans in action were a lot more exciting for her. She jumped slightly when Brinley tapped her shoulder but smiled immediately when she turned and saw her friendâs face. âI thought youâd never ask,â she chuckled as she began to head for the door.
Brinley rolled her brown eyes,Â
âYouâre thirty, Max. Not... Not extinct.â
The brunette laughed softly and shook her head at the words coming from Maxâs mouth, as she was obviously still young. Besides, itâs about how you feel not the age you are. At least thatâs what she thinks. âIâm turning twenty-seven in March. So, I can totally join you in the grandma club if you want,â Brinley spoke and winked, the smirk on the femaleâs lips widened as she stared at her newly made friend.Â
I thought youâd never ask. Brinley nodded and then the two of them made their way out of the coffeeshop and she waved at her co-workers, who smiled and waved them off, obviously they were happy that Brinley would be out doing something other than just constantly working and going home to her apartment. That was basically her every day routine, so they wouldnât exactly be completely off.Â
âIâm really happy you stopped by at the bench today, Max.â Brinley smiled softly as the two of them walked next to each other. Bumping her shoulder against Maxâs, she continued to speak, âI need to get out a little more and I definitely needed that kick in the ass. So, you know, thank you,â Brinley spoke and laughed, feeling her cheeks turn bright red.Â
HEADCANON #3:
Every now and then, whenever Brinley feels the desperation and need to talk to her Dad about something that she has experienced that day or if she is just feeling more lonely than usually: Brinley will pick up the phone and call him, even though she knows that he wonât be able to pick up because heâs not around anymore. She canât help but feel hopeful that he will pick it up one day though, and as thatâs not healthy, itâs something she keeps to herself - not wanting her mother, friends or the people at the therapy group, know, scared that that would think sheâs probably lost her mind which honestly, she sometimes wonder herself.
maxmatthews:
âYeah! I guess everything happens for a reason, right?â Max offered a comforting smile. âAnyway, youâre still young. Thereâs plenty of time to mess around before you find the one or whatever.â She sipped from her coffee before setting it down as Brinley returned. âI wouldnât believe that for a second,â Max joked with a smirk before leaning against the counter closer to the girl. âAlright, so thereâs this club and it has cheap drinks and good music and they pretty much let you do anything, I mean, if youâre intoâŠOther methods of intoxication, if you know what I mean.â
Anyway, youâre still young. She laughed and raised a brow at Max. âYouâre saying that like youâre old, which you arenât. And if you were, then thatâs ridiculous and extremely unfair, with, you know, everyone else looking like walking zombies.â Shaking her head, the grin on the femaleâs lips widened as he glanced over at Max who sipped from her coffee cup before setting it down as she returned over to her newly made friend. I wouldnât believe that for a second. âHa-ha. Very funny, sweetheart!â Brinley spoke and stuck her tongue out at her playfully, as one of her co-workers came over and told her that she could head out early if she wanted. Alright, so thereâs this club and it has cheap drinks and good music and they pretty much let you do anything, I mean, if youâre into... Other methods of intoxication, if you know what I mean. âYou had me at cheap drinks, to be honest,â Brinley said and grinned before tapping her fingers against the top of the counter. âWait here. Iâll just go and get my things and then we can head out and get the stuff we need before it gets too late.âÂ
It took her about ten minutes to go get her things and change out of her work clothes. Exiting the backroom, the brunette thanked her co-worker who had said she could go and he said that Brinley always helped out whenever they needed it, it was about time that she got something in return. Putting her jacket onto her shoulders, she walked over to where Max was and tapping the girl on the shoulder. The grin on the brunetteâs plum lips widened as she stood in front of her, his hands stuffed into the pockets on her jacket. âReady to cause a little mayhem, Max?â she asked playfully and wriggled her eyebrows.Â

adam: i'm sorry i can't attract girls my own age
adam: so what do you think???
brinley: You can't attract... Okay. Sure, that's it.
brinley: what I think about all of this? Christ.
brinley: is this girl at least over 18?
maxmatthews:
Max took a bite of the gun before wiping the crumbs away with the back of her hand. âIt wasnât a really bad decision. I mean, obviously I wasnât there and I didnât see your relationship, but thereâs no point in being with someone if the emotions arenât there anymore. Itâs not fair on him and itâs not fair on you.â She subconsciously bit her lower lip as she thought about her own ex and considered bringing him up so she would have someone to at least talk to about it, but she ultimately decided not to as she ripped another bite off of the bun.Â
âI mean it when I say that I love you,â Max smiled as she put the money back into her pocket. She took a sip of her coffee as Brinley left to tend to the other customers before taking the opportunity to put some of the money meant for the refill into the tip jar.Â
âExactly. Thatâs what Iâm thinking. And, if we were supposed to be together, then... Then itâll happen, you know? Then weâll find our way back to each other or whatever,â she spoke and shrugged her shoulders as casually as humanly possible, while she nibbled on her bottom lip. She honestly believed that she quite possibly loved him. At least she was close to loving him, but at the same time, it didnât feel right. It didnât feel like it was something that was going to last for the rest of her life and she honestly couldnât see herself going down that road with him. I mean it when I say that I love you. Brinley rolled her eyes and laughed as she walked over to the other customer, helping him and getting the things he needed. Brinley winked at the customer and then went to get what he had ordered.Â
A couple of minutes later, Brinley walked back to where Max was. âSo, where are we going out tonight? This might come to you as a surprise, but I donât really go out that much,â she spoke and laughed as she pushed her hair back, using the hair tie she had wrapped around her wrist to gather her hair into a slight pony tail in the back of her head. âSo, I honestly have no idea where the good places are.â Brinley was excited about their girlsâ night out, and she had a feeling it was something both of them wanted and maybe even needed. Â

adam: what's the socially acceptable age gap when dating??
adam: i can't believe i'm asking this
brinley: Seriously, Adam. The things you text me sometimes.
brinley: I can't believe you're asking it.
maxmatthews:
âThank god, at least Iâm not the only one,â Max smiled. It felt good to have a friend, especially a female one. She had always just had guy friends; girls always thought she wasnât serious enough or had a weird sense of humour, but she could tell that Brinley was different. âYeah, I understand. At least it ended on good terms, right? Although heâs a fool to let you go.â Her smile grew wider as Brinley poured her another cup of coffee and she excitedly placed the money on the counter before taking the cup into the hands. âI donât care. Iâm here for a good time, not a long time.â.
Honestly, Brinley was excited about having a friend. Of course, she had friends, but she had been MIA for a little while with everything that had happened with her Dad and some of those people she had considered friends had disappeared. It definitely sucked to think about, but then again, are they really friends if they disappear whenever it gets tough? And, Brinley didnât really ever have a lot of girl friends so this was definitely going to be quite interesting. Yeah, I understand. At least it ended on good terms, right? She nodded and hummed softly as she reached forward and took another bite of Maxâs cinnamon bun. Although heâs a fool to let you go. âHonestly, I was the one who let him go, and it was probably a really bad decision, because he was really sweet to me, but... The feelings just werenât there anymore. For neither of us. He was a really good guy though.âÂ
Shaking her head, Brinley placed her hand on top of the money, pushing it towards Max. âCome on, Max. Youâre not paying for the re-fill, okay? Thatâs on the house!â Nodding her head, she turned towards where the unknown voice had come from and she excused herself before walking over to the person who had asked for help. Â

As soon as the session at the hospital ended, Brinley got off her seat on the chair and hastily moved into the hallway, walking down the corridor as quickly as humanly possible. She felt tears push themselves outwards, desperately wanting to escape the  while her legs felt like they were burning at how fast she was walking. Sniffing furiously, Brinley moved her hand to her face and pressed her nose against the back of her hand, feeling the skin turn wet. Slowing down, Brinley stopped and thatâs when she saw what looked like a man laying on a hospital bed, and his family sitting on chairs around him. It made her chest tighten and she honestly felt like she was going to pass out at one point. Moving towards the wall as her legs were starting to buckle under pressure, she pressed her back up against the wall. Sliding down, she buried her face in-between her arms as they rested on the top of her knees and tears began to run down the brown-haired girlâs cheeks.
maxmatthews:
Max laughed, looking down at the ground to hide her blush. âStooop, I donât know how to take compliments they make me feel weird,â she laughed. The sound of the other girlâs gasp made her raise her head again and she gave a genuine smile. âIâm just telling the truth. You donât give yourself enough credit. Do you have a boyfriend? Or girlfriend, or significant otherâŠOkay, that sounds like Iâm hitting on you, doesnât it?â She chuckled. She grinned as Brinley spoke. âYay! That sounds perfect! You know what would make those plans seem even better, though? Another cup of coffee.â She drained her current cup before placing it on the table with a smile, winking at her friend.
âYou know what?â Brinley spoke softly, âCompliments actually make me feel really uncomfortable, too,â she spoke and grinned as she kept her dark-brown eyes locked with her newly-made friend. Iâm just telling the truth. You donât give yourself enough credit. Do you have a boyfriend? Or girlfriend, or significant other. Brinley chuckled softly and raised a brow at Max as she rambled on. That sounds like Iâm hitting on you, doesnât it? Shrugging her shoulders, Brinley giggled but then shook her head at the words coming from the otherâs mouth. âNo, Iâm not. I - I was in a relationship a little while ago, but we broke up,â she said and nodded, keeping her brown eyes on Max. âWe ended things on good terms though, so Iâm happy about that. Iâm not really looking for anything though, you know?â Brinley hummed carefully, narrowing her eyes a little bit. You know what would make those plans seem even better, though? Another cup of coffee. Brinley chuckled and shook her head as she grabbed the coffee mug, pouring more into the cup in front of her. âYouâre probably gonna end up dying from a caffeine shock, you know,â she spoke teasingly.
