@brinleyharper-blog
dahliahuang:
Dahlia just wished she had some bourbon in a flask to take the edge off. Last thing she wanted was to have someone look at her with judgy eyes. “Alright, hear me out —- I know it might sound weird but… do you have any idea how I’m supposed to do Princess Leia buns and have them stay up all day?”
“I --" Brinley started but stopped talking for a moment. “I have absolutely no idea, I’m sorry,” she said and laughed as she placed her coffee cup down on the table in front of her. “We can YouTube it, if you want? I mean, there’s gotta be something on there that will work. Why are you having buns as Princess Leia on your head? Are you going to a costume party or something?” Brinley questioned curiously as she typed it into her computer.
maxmatthews:
“Thirty’s old,” Max argued with a groan. “Thirty’s like…’hey let’s have some kids’ age. I don’t wanna be that age. I feel like I still am a kid.” She let out a sigh as Brinley spoke. “Ah, to be twenty-seven again.I was living in New York then. Feels like a lifetime ago.” Her smile left her face, but she quickly forced a new one. “You don’t know how excited I am to be the one drinking the alcohol tonight instead of serving it,” she chuckled. “I’m glad I stopped by the bench too,” she said as she bumped Brinley’s shoulder in return. “Well, I gladly take the role of your going out friend, because I will never, ever turn a night out down unless I’m on my death bed. Even then, stick a party hat on me and I’d be good to go from the bed,” she laughed.
“Thirty isn’t old, come on.” Shaking her head, Brinley listened to Max explain how it was a hey, let’s make some kids age and how she didn’t wanna be that age yet. How she still felt like a kid herself and Brinley could definitely recognize herself in that. Ah, to be twenty-seven again. I was living in New York then. “You’ve lived in New York? Wow. I’m jealous,” she said and chuckled softly as she kept her eyes trained on Max the whole time. You don’t know how excited I am to be the one drinking the alcohol tonight instead of serving it. “Oh, right. You’re a bartender, aren’t you? I mean, that profession must be really awesome though. The stories you hear,” she continued and chuckled softly. I’m glad I stopped by the bench too. Brinley nodded and swallowed when Max bumped her shoulder in return. Even then, stick a party hat on me and I’d be good to go from the bed. Brinley laughed and shook her head at the words coming from Max’s mouth. She really liked her -she was funny, and she definitely knew how to make her laugh. “If you’re sick, I’ll be bringing you soup, not a party-hat, Max I’m sorry to disappoint.”
littletullia:
Tullia smiled at the other woman and shook her head. “No, no, I’m sorry if I bothered you,” she said. “I was just hoping I could have a seat.” She hefted her own book. “It seems like this is the first time we’ve seen the sun in forever, so I wanted to take advantage of it.”
“What? No, you’re not -- You’re not bothering me. It’s fine. Please, sit.” She scooted over on the bench, giving the girl some space so she could sit down. “I’m sorry for hogging the whole bench,” Brinley said and shook her head with a soft smile on her lips. “I got so lost in this that I completely forgot that other people might wanna sit down too.” Rolling her eyes at herself, she turned her head and looked at the book the other one had pulled out. It seems like this is the first time we’ve seen the sun in forever, so I wanted to take advantage of it. “Yeah. I - I know what you mean. Same with me, actually. I - I’m on my lunch break right now, but wanted to sit out here instead. Soak up a little sun, you know,” she spoke and giggled. “What are you reading?”
dilldexter:
The way she’d been trying to compose herself wasn’t hard to miss. It was fairly obvious that this wasn’t where she wanted to be, but rather, where she needed to find herself in. If he really thought about it, though, and like she’d pointed out, no one really liked hospitals. He shifted his head a bit from side to side as he considered her words and, “Yeah, I guess that’s true.” He scoffed when she offered to pay for the damages, finding it a kind but unnecessary act. Especially one coming from money, he was never one to ask for it from anyone else besides his parents. “No, are you kidding? No, don’t sweat it, alright? We’re good. I promise.” A frown found its place on his lips, settling in as he looked at her with confusion and disappointment. “Oh? That’s odd. She probably had to do something more important. Or probably just trying to save her ass from this.” He gestured towards the room. He didn’t sign up for the counseling sessions, finding them totally unhelpful, and he didn’t want to sit in a room with people sitting in a circle sharing their sob stories. Wouldn’t that make you feel even more depressed? It was how he looked at it, anyway. Instead, he decided to try and find his own ways of remedying the grief he was still feeling after his father’s death.
He gave her a single nod, more of a tilt of the head, really, as she introduced herself. “’sup. I’m Dill,” he said, offering her his most charming smile.
No, are you kidding? No, don’t sweat it, alright? We’re good, I promise. Brinley swallowed and looked at the male, nodding her head and pushing some of her hair back as he said they were good, and she guessed she would just have to believe him. Oh? That’s odd. She probably had to do something more important. She swallowed the lump in her throat and nodded, although going to therapy was rather important, whether or not she liked being there herself. Or probably just trying to save her ass from this. Brinley laughed and nodded, moving a hand to the back of her neck. “Yeah, probably that,” she said and hummed. “It’s not really that bad, it’s just today... It was just a little too much straight away, you know?” she spoke and shrugged her shoulders before looking at him.
Brinley’s cheeks continued to blush furiously when he tilted his head and smiled at her. Sup. I’m Dill. The brunette laughed and shook her head, her eyes trained on him until she blinked and turned her gaze somewhere else. “I didn’t know people actually said sup anymore,” she said teasingly, lifting her head and raising an eyebrow at him. Shaking her head once more, she moved her hands to her shirt and began to play with the edge of it. “So, since your sister ain’t here... I’m guessing you’re gonna head out?”
alexknights:
Now that she isn’t reading and he has a better look at her face, he realizes she’s not the person he’s supposed to meet with. “I’m sorry. I thought you were someone else.” He stuffs his hands into the pocket of his jacket and scans the area around them for another brunette.
“Oh. It’s okay. Happen all the time.” Brinley smiled weakly at the man and swallowed, keeping her hands pressed against the top of the book, keeping it closed. “You can- I mean, you can sit down if you want and wait until your friend gets here?” she suggested and scooted over a little, giving the male more room to sit down. “Maybe she’s just running late, I mean, the traffic these last couple of days have been insane,” she spoke and shrugged as she continued to tap her fingertips against the cover of the book.
maxmatthews:
“I’m thirty in a month, Brin. Thirty. That’s ten years from forty, and that’s when my life is truly over,” Max sighed dramatically. She gave her two thumbs up as they agreed on the place to go, grabbing her drink to finish it as Brinley left. She didn’t expect her day to end up the way it had - she was prepared to spend a night in bed with Netflix, but the current plans in action were a lot more exciting for her. She jumped slightly when Brinley tapped her shoulder but smiled immediately when she turned and saw her friend’s face. “I thought you’d never ask,” she chuckled as she began to head for the door.
Brinley rolled her brown eyes,
“You’re thirty, Max. Not... Not extinct.”
The brunette laughed softly and shook her head at the words coming from Max’s mouth, as she was obviously still young. Besides, it’s about how you feel not the age you are. At least that’s what she thinks. “I’m turning twenty-seven in March. So, I can totally join you in the grandma club if you want,” Brinley spoke and winked, the smirk on the female’s lips widened as she stared at her newly made friend.
I thought you’d never ask. Brinley nodded and then the two of them made their way out of the coffeeshop and she waved at her co-workers, who smiled and waved them off, obviously they were happy that Brinley would be out doing something other than just constantly working and going home to her apartment. That was basically her every day routine, so they wouldn’t exactly be completely off.
“I’m really happy you stopped by at the bench today, Max.” Brinley smiled softly as the two of them walked next to each other. Bumping her shoulder against Max’s, she continued to speak, “I need to get out a little more and I definitely needed that kick in the ass. So, you know, thank you,” Brinley spoke and laughed, feeling her cheeks turn bright red.
HEADCANON #3:
Every now and then, whenever Brinley feels the desperation and need to talk to her Dad about something that she has experienced that day or if she is just feeling more lonely than usually: Brinley will pick up the phone and call him, even though she knows that he won’t be able to pick up because he’s not around anymore. She can’t help but feel hopeful that he will pick it up one day though, and as that’s not healthy, it’s something she keeps to herself - not wanting her mother, friends or the people at the therapy group, know, scared that that would think she’s probably lost her mind which honestly, she sometimes wonder herself.
maxmatthews:
“Yeah! I guess everything happens for a reason, right?” Max offered a comforting smile. “Anyway, you’re still young. There’s plenty of time to mess around before you find the one or whatever.” She sipped from her coffee before setting it down as Brinley returned. “I wouldn’t believe that for a second,” Max joked with a smirk before leaning against the counter closer to the girl. “Alright, so there’s this club and it has cheap drinks and good music and they pretty much let you do anything, I mean, if you’re into…Other methods of intoxication, if you know what I mean.”
Anyway, you’re still young. She laughed and raised a brow at Max. “You’re saying that like you’re old, which you aren’t. And if you were, then that’s ridiculous and extremely unfair, with, you know, everyone else looking like walking zombies.” Shaking her head, the grin on the female’s lips widened as he glanced over at Max who sipped from her coffee cup before setting it down as she returned over to her newly made friend. I wouldn’t believe that for a second. “Ha-ha. Very funny, sweetheart!” Brinley spoke and stuck her tongue out at her playfully, as one of her co-workers came over and told her that she could head out early if she wanted. Alright, so there’s this club and it has cheap drinks and good music and they pretty much let you do anything, I mean, if you’re into... Other methods of intoxication, if you know what I mean. “You had me at cheap drinks, to be honest,” Brinley said and grinned before tapping her fingers against the top of the counter. “Wait here. I’ll just go and get my things and then we can head out and get the stuff we need before it gets too late.”
It took her about ten minutes to go get her things and change out of her work clothes. Exiting the backroom, the brunette thanked her co-worker who had said she could go and he said that Brinley always helped out whenever they needed it, it was about time that she got something in return. Putting her jacket onto her shoulders, she walked over to where Max was and tapping the girl on the shoulder. The grin on the brunette’s plum lips widened as she stood in front of her, his hands stuffed into the pockets on her jacket. “Ready to cause a little mayhem, Max?” she asked playfully and wriggled her eyebrows.

adam: i'm sorry i can't attract girls my own age
adam: so what do you think???
brinley: You can't attract... Okay. Sure, that's it.
brinley: what I think about all of this? Christ.
brinley: is this girl at least over 18?
maxmatthews:
Max took a bite of the gun before wiping the crumbs away with the back of her hand. “It wasn’t a really bad decision. I mean, obviously I wasn’t there and I didn’t see your relationship, but there’s no point in being with someone if the emotions aren’t there anymore. It’s not fair on him and it’s not fair on you.” She subconsciously bit her lower lip as she thought about her own ex and considered bringing him up so she would have someone to at least talk to about it, but she ultimately decided not to as she ripped another bite off of the bun.
“I mean it when I say that I love you,” Max smiled as she put the money back into her pocket. She took a sip of her coffee as Brinley left to tend to the other customers before taking the opportunity to put some of the money meant for the refill into the tip jar.
“Exactly. That’s what I’m thinking. And, if we were supposed to be together, then... Then it’ll happen, you know? Then we’ll find our way back to each other or whatever,” she spoke and shrugged her shoulders as casually as humanly possible, while she nibbled on her bottom lip. She honestly believed that she quite possibly loved him. At least she was close to loving him, but at the same time, it didn’t feel right. It didn’t feel like it was something that was going to last for the rest of her life and she honestly couldn’t see herself going down that road with him. I mean it when I say that I love you. Brinley rolled her eyes and laughed as she walked over to the other customer, helping him and getting the things he needed. Brinley winked at the customer and then went to get what he had ordered.
A couple of minutes later, Brinley walked back to where Max was. “So, where are we going out tonight? This might come to you as a surprise, but I don’t really go out that much,” she spoke and laughed as she pushed her hair back, using the hair tie she had wrapped around her wrist to gather her hair into a slight pony tail in the back of her head. “So, I honestly have no idea where the good places are.” Brinley was excited about their girls’ night out, and she had a feeling it was something both of them wanted and maybe even needed.

adam: what's the socially acceptable age gap when dating??
adam: i can't believe i'm asking this
brinley: Seriously, Adam. The things you text me sometimes.
brinley: I can't believe you're asking it.
maxmatthews:
“Thank god, at least I’m not the only one,” Max smiled. It felt good to have a friend, especially a female one. She had always just had guy friends; girls always thought she wasn’t serious enough or had a weird sense of humour, but she could tell that Brinley was different. “Yeah, I understand. At least it ended on good terms, right? Although he’s a fool to let you go.” Her smile grew wider as Brinley poured her another cup of coffee and she excitedly placed the money on the counter before taking the cup into the hands. “I don’t care. I’m here for a good time, not a long time.”.
Honestly, Brinley was excited about having a friend. Of course, she had friends, but she had been MIA for a little while with everything that had happened with her Dad and some of those people she had considered friends had disappeared. It definitely sucked to think about, but then again, are they really friends if they disappear whenever it gets tough? And, Brinley didn’t really ever have a lot of girl friends so this was definitely going to be quite interesting. Yeah, I understand. At least it ended on good terms, right? She nodded and hummed softly as she reached forward and took another bite of Max’s cinnamon bun. Although he’s a fool to let you go. “Honestly, I was the one who let him go, and it was probably a really bad decision, because he was really sweet to me, but... The feelings just weren’t there anymore. For neither of us. He was a really good guy though.”
Shaking her head, Brinley placed her hand on top of the money, pushing it towards Max. “Come on, Max. You’re not paying for the re-fill, okay? That’s on the house!” Nodding her head, she turned towards where the unknown voice had come from and she excused herself before walking over to the person who had asked for help.

As soon as the session at the hospital ended, Brinley got off her seat on the chair and hastily moved into the hallway, walking down the corridor as quickly as humanly possible. She felt tears push themselves outwards, desperately wanting to escape the while her legs felt like they were burning at how fast she was walking. Sniffing furiously, Brinley moved her hand to her face and pressed her nose against the back of her hand, feeling the skin turn wet. Slowing down, Brinley stopped and that’s when she saw what looked like a man laying on a hospital bed, and his family sitting on chairs around him. It made her chest tighten and she honestly felt like she was going to pass out at one point. Moving towards the wall as her legs were starting to buckle under pressure, she pressed her back up against the wall. Sliding down, she buried her face in-between her arms as they rested on the top of her knees and tears began to run down the brown-haired girl’s cheeks.
maxmatthews:
Max laughed, looking down at the ground to hide her blush. “Stooop, I don’t know how to take compliments they make me feel weird,” she laughed. The sound of the other girl’s gasp made her raise her head again and she gave a genuine smile. “I’m just telling the truth. You don’t give yourself enough credit. Do you have a boyfriend? Or girlfriend, or significant other…Okay, that sounds like I’m hitting on you, doesn’t it?” She chuckled. She grinned as Brinley spoke. “Yay! That sounds perfect! You know what would make those plans seem even better, though? Another cup of coffee.” She drained her current cup before placing it on the table with a smile, winking at her friend.
“You know what?” Brinley spoke softly, “Compliments actually make me feel really uncomfortable, too,” she spoke and grinned as she kept her dark-brown eyes locked with her newly-made friend. I’m just telling the truth. You don’t give yourself enough credit. Do you have a boyfriend? Or girlfriend, or significant other. Brinley chuckled softly and raised a brow at Max as she rambled on. That sounds like I’m hitting on you, doesn’t it? Shrugging her shoulders, Brinley giggled but then shook her head at the words coming from the other’s mouth. “No, I’m not. I - I was in a relationship a little while ago, but we broke up,” she said and nodded, keeping her brown eyes on Max. “We ended things on good terms though, so I’m happy about that. I’m not really looking for anything though, you know?” Brinley hummed carefully, narrowing her eyes a little bit. You know what would make those plans seem even better, though? Another cup of coffee. Brinley chuckled and shook her head as she grabbed the coffee mug, pouring more into the cup in front of her. “You’re probably gonna end up dying from a caffeine shock, you know,” she spoke teasingly.
