i also rly like the leafpool kills ashfur au cus i feel like - even tho u guys know i personally hate this subplot - it would also start to make sense why starclan would hold a “””””trial””””” for leafpool + why she’d be a controversial cat for them. bc a medicine cat isn’t supposed to kill outside of self defense (even tho u n me and everyone else could argue that it Was self defense) but she’s supposed to be Leafpool. holy, devout, the pinnacle of what a medicine cat should be - she’s trained her whole life for it and has never wanted to be anything else. they gritted their teeth abt her romance w crowfeather but for her to murder her clanmate who wasn’t a brokenstar level threat or actively threatening Her life….hm

i also just. like i don’t think ANY of us can fathom leafpool killing another character, not genuinely. squirrelflight sure, there’s tons of “squirrelflight kills ashfur” aus and she also would have an easier time making that choice, even though she wouldn’t LIKE it. and leafpool didn’t want to, she has so much turmoil and regret over doing it, but she just gives herself an internal dialogue of knowing that she needed to protect her kids and sister

i imagine that the scene would play out that leafpool didn’t even go there to kill ashfur, she wasn’t hunting him down to kill him. intimidate him, sure, but not to kill him

i think she goes to talk to him and ashfur doesn’t really get why at first, he doesn’t know that she knows abt the fire scene, until it clicks for him that ofc squirrelflight would tell her…..leafpool goes into it with the guise of protecting her sister, but leafpool isn’t used to intimidation or that level of confrontation. the most she’s had to do is be stern abt administering medicine, but this is a level farther than she’s ever had to go

ashfur is a lot of things but he’s not a total idiot (most of the time) and i think leafpool probably accidentally lets it slip in her conversation with him - not outright obvs - but he IS able to put two and two together and realize that oh wait. this is MORE than just abt squirrelflight. they’re not squirrelflight’s kids, but who on earth would squirrelflight lie for???? leafpool. obviously.

n i think the “snap” moment leafpool has is because that once ashfur realized she was the mother, once he obvs picked up on that it has to be crowfeather who is the father….he laughs at her. because it’s just a little too perfect, it’s the ultimate worse case scenario for squirrelflight. to have her sister be humiliated and embarrassed too, the one cat other than her kids that she’d do anything to protect. and he laughs right in leafpools face over the fact that her life is ruined.
