Since my AU ships keep popping off (thank you guys, I’m genuinely surprised it got any attention at all), let me talk about my ShrewSquirrel AU I wrote a while ago and what I had changed in terms of Leafpool’s Wish and PoT (and a little bit of arc 2) I guess I should put a spoiler warning for those who maybe haven’t read the books yet, so YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!! Also mentions of death, because Ashfur

. Shrewpaw survives getting hit, meeting the same fate as Cinderpelt but he was still able to be a warrior (one day we will give Cinder justice. I’d like to think she still likes hunting patrols and occasionally goes). He also gets the name Shrewheart because I said so, and he’s canonically married to Squirrelflight in this AU. Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight respect each other, and Ashfur is still slightly obsessive.

. Arc 2 still plays out the same way for Leafpool and Crowfeather till we get to Leafpool’s Wish. Leafpool finds out she’s pregnant and is only really able to confide in her sister and brother-in-law, in which they go to StarClan together. When StarClan is doing their whole spiel about Squirrelflight being barren, Shrewheart immediately bites back at them. He is supportive of his mate, and I will stand by IT.

. Leaf does tell Crowfeather about this kits in this AU. While Crowfeather is initially hesitant, and maybe still holds some bitterness, he wants to help where he can. Of course, Squirrelflight holds him to that, because she loves her sister loads. Keeping his word, Crowfeather is there for the birth of his kits, and actually gets to bond (before they can really form that memory) with them a little before he has to go.

. Squirrelflight and Shrewheart raise the kits as their kits. I’d like to think that the reveal still happens with the fire, but it’s toned down a lot. The three are still upset, but personally I think Hollyleaf goes to the lengths she did before. Ashfur also ends up dying in the fire because I said so and he’s in the Dark Forest. ThunderClan also knows, and it is eventually told at the gathering, but I’d like to think this is after all the healing, and Crowfeather decides after that to go live in ThunderClan.

Obviously some of this I am still working on, but I like how far I’ve come with it. Lmk what y’all think, too :)

Dark Forest guy [E I like to imagine his comments to Thistleclaw about family were sincere because ☝️ I think it is the more interesting option for his character and my agenda will always be to humanize the dark forest cats where I can “Snowfur was your mate.” Shredtail narrowed his eyes. “Aren’t you grieving, too?” “Of course!” Thistleclaw slashed at a moss-coated tree. “Snowfur shouldn’t have died! It should’ve been Bluefur on the Thunderpath instead!” “What about your kit?” Shredtail pressed. “Your son?”

In Rudyverse Shredtail's mate and kits are killed after sheltering in a badger den, and Shredtail leads a very unnecessary very bloody war against every badger they can hunt down, crossing moral bounds several times. Partially because of the above and this line: “Grief can bring strength,” Shredtail warned.

But also because I feel it gives more weigh to this scene right before his death- “Shall I let my Clanmates finish you off?” Shredtail gloated. Then he glanced past Lionblaze’s shoulder and his gaze suddenly glittered with fear. The paws gripping Lionblaze’s throat dropped away. He smelled the scent of badger’s breath as Midnight moved behind him. “Destiny is the choice of every cat,” she rasped in his ear. “But some cats have destiny chosen for them.” She turned and lumbered away.
