“Mud bath” A chilled out white rhino takes a mud bath to escape the heat of the day. With so much poaching throughout Africa, it’s nice to see a relaxed rhino ; many have become skittish around vehicles and humans. It’s a sad state of affairs that I hope humanity can reverse. Due to the increase in poaching and traffic in rhino horn, I no longer post or pinpoint the location of my rhino sightings and would encourage other wildlife photographers to do the same. One of the many things I love about the Kruger National Park is that you never know what’s going to be around the next twist in the road. From mighty elephants to tiny tortoises, we’ve seen it all. My favourite kind of roadblock. Could sit and watch these incredible animals all day. And sometimes you don’t have a choice in the matter when a large herd decides to take its time crossing the road - surrounding you on all sides. Slightly nerve wracking - but incredible too. It’s amazing what can just materialise before your eyes when you take a moment to sit and wait in the Kruger National Park South Africa. We haven’t seen ostrich in the Kruger National Park for years. So do see twenty two together was pretty special. They freak me out a little I have to be honest. There’s something strangely prehistoric about their feet that reminds me of Spielberg’s velociraptors. There’s something a little unnerving about being eye-level with a large, Male white rhino. Holding the camera steady can be a bit of a challenge. This old boy was being super protective of a cow and calf a little further back in the bush. Fantastic close encounter.
