Going topside
She had lost track of how long she had been in the facility. They hardly saw anyone, they got water and three small meals a day. Enough to keep them going. She was fortunate to have Ram in the cell next door. Even when faced with a hopeless situation as this the program somehow managed to keep his optimism. But her mind would wander, and nights would often be sleepless as she worried about Molly. She hoped that she was alright, and that Saxon kept his word in that no harm would come to her so long as she cooperated with his pet.
They seemed rather interested in Ram though. They would take him out nearly every day, he told her that they did a lot of physical tests on him. Blood and the like. But recently, there had been a lull and he was in his cell for quite a while. Perhaps they lost interest, though she doubted it. She had been busy in the meantime though. They didnât seem to pay much attention to her, not when they had a shiny new lifeform in the cell next to hers. She was working on what may have been the only opportunity to let Mycroft obtain an idea of where they wereâŚconsidering it worked.
She had managed to take apart her phone and remove the GPS chip that was lodged inside it using a hair pin, not an ordinary one of course. Like most everything she carried, itâs looks were deceiving and it was in actuality a tool. She would hide the contents beneath her shirt whenever a guard passed by. She was rather fortunate that women had more hiding places than men in that regard. And now finally after two days time she had what she needed. She waited until the guard passed and started to converse with one of his coworkers before she approached the slot on Ramâs side of the cell, speaking in a low whisper.
âRamâŚ.Ram are you awake?â
âAnthea?â
He got up from his corner of the cell, pacing over to the slit in the wall and looked through it at her, his blue eyes meeting her brown ones.
âWhat is it?â he whispered, getting on his knees. âIs everything okay? Are you feeling okay?â
âYes Iâm fineâŚâ She smiled, always concerned with the other personâs wellbeing over himself. He was a very good doctor in that aspect.
âIâve been listening to the guards for the past few hours. It sounds like someone important is coming to visit soon, and theyâre interested in you. Which means they will probably take you out and bring you to the upper levels. I donât know who, but this may be our only chance at getting noticed.â
She held up the tiny chip between her fingers so he could see it.
âThis is the GPS chip in my phone. Itâs useless in that device seeing as how I canât get a signal down here, but it should still work. If it can get to the upper levels there is a slight possibility that the signal may be picked up, alerting my boss to our whereabouts. However the only problem is transport. Which is whyâŚIâm going to have to ask you for a favorâŚâ She frowned a bit, in order to get it up there she would have to hurt the program a bit. But it would be worth a shot, she hoped that he would say yesâŚ
The program furrowed his brow at this new knowledge, though he was relieved that she was doing alright. Malnutrition was what he was concerned about the most, along with her mental state, but she seemed to be coping okay from what he could see and hear.
âSomeone is interested in me?â He scratched the back of his head, the bandage long gone now as the wound had closed. âI canât say I know anyone who would be, aside from the people Iâve met thus far, but I donât think they would associate themselves with a place like thisâŚâ
He hoped not.
âA chip?â
He examined the small thing in her hand, it looked like any other computer chip. If it was still functioning that was a good sign, although when she mentioned the problem of transportâŚhe had a rough idea what she was going to ask.
âYou mean you want to plant it on me somewhereâŚbut how?â
He had no where to hide it, no place that wouldnât be blatantly obvious if he did. And if he tried to put it in his mouth it would damage the chip.
âWell, if it gives us a chance to get noticed by the good guys, Iâm all for itâŚâ
Though he was skeptical. He trusted an associate of Mycroftâs.
âWhat do you need me to do?â
She smiled at that.
"Good...now turn around."
She waited until the program did so and reached out, lifting some of his curly blonde locks from the nape of his neck.
"I apologize for this...this is going to hurt a bit."
She bit her lip and reached through the slot with her other hand, pressing the chip in hard with her thumb. She felt the program wince and whine in pain when she did so, which only made it harder for her to do. But she had managed to get the prongs in deep enough to where the chip would stay in place.
"There, that should do it, now don't pick at it and it should stay where it is."
She wiped away a bit of the blood with her hand and let his blonde hair fall back into place, covering where she placed it.
"There isn't much of it, but you should keep dabbing at it to make sure you're not bleeding, otherwise they might get suspicious. I'm hoping it won't be long before they take you up again. The sooner you go up, hopefully the sooner I can remove it before it starts to really bother you."
It was a slim chance, but it may have been the only one they had.
