Best of Erika Henningsen’s Instagram live on August 1, 2018 • featuring Kyle recounting the time he forgot lyrics onstage, Erika expressing her undying love for Bring It On, Ashley learning what “ship” means, Erika showing us her underwear, people calling Erika out for swearing, Barrett putting her wallpaper back up with a back scratcher, and the very important question: does Gretchen’s family own Wiener Circle?
So... if I were to sell a full Anastasia playbill collection. Meaning every playbill ever printed. Hartford, original color, original b&w, old pride, new Christy cover, new pride... how much would y’all pay for it.
A few things from the last Broadway performance of Anastasia...
- WOW THE AUDIENCE WAS AMAZING - Like every time someone new came out on stage the audience went WILD - The actors were #emotional - Rumor.. amazing as always - In my dreams.. wow. Christy. wow. - Learn to do it had long applause/semi-standing ovation and Cody, Christy, and John all broke character - oh also in learn to do it John wrote 808 on the chalkboard. (808 performances!) - Once Upon a December also got a semi-standing ovation - everyone was bawling at Stay I Pray You - We’ll go from there... that fake train bump was so cute. Also, Delilah playing cat’s cradle was adorable. - Journey to the past. again. wow. Christy. wow. Standing ovation before she even finished the song. - Paris Holds the Key. Loud applause as soon as the curtain went up. John was hamming it up as usual. - Crossing a Bridge. wow. Christy. wow. Again. wow.. - Every scene with LIly there was SO much laughter - Countess and Common man was particularly hilarious and their kiss was LONG - Quartet.. everyone went nuts for the ballet and they got a standing ovation - Finale.. standing ovation before it even ended. Everyone was A MESS. - Christy stage doored for 4 and a half hours. I saw her, went to dinner, came back and she barely made a dent in the line. - EVERY SINGLE CAST MEMBER came out to sign! Even Amy and Bonnie! - Amy got a cute sign from her friends that said Performances: 808. Child Casualties: ZERO - Derek was in the audience. - It was FREAKING AMAZING
If anyone has content from 2nd stage’s Saturday Night concert HMU! Let’s trade!

What is the stop clause? Is that why anastasia is closing?
The stop clause is created by theatre owners. It pretty much means if a show makes x amount of money or below for a number of consecutive weeks, the theatre owners can close the show. Yes, that is why Anastasia is closing. It’s reported that they had a stop clause of $645k for 2 consecutive weeks. They made around $500-$550k end of January into early February. Hence why the theatre owners pulled the plug.
Can we start a thread of gifs from bootlegs where actors/actresses look at the camera?
This is from Falsettos
My fave is this one from Mean Girls
I just need somewhere to vent about this...With so many long-running Broadway musicals, how in the world will new shows open? Think about it. There are 41 “Broadway” theatres. Out of the 41, 12 of those theatres have shows that have been running 2+ years. These are shows like Wicked, Hamilton, Lion King... shows that may never close. Other shows like Mean Girls, Anastasia, Come From Away, have the potential to remain open for many more years. That’s another chunk of theatres. And some theatres are Playhouses in which they will not open a musical. Looking to the future, we may hit a time when all the musicals on Broadway are long-running musicals and no available theatres will be open. I do understand that a stop-clause could be in effect but will theatre owners really pull the stop-clause to a show that’s making tons of money? It’s only a matter of time before we completely run out of Broadway houses...
this…this is what i get angry and rant about when im super drunk
The thing that annoys me most about broadway musicals that shake their fists at those ‘pesky bootlegs’ is… You have professionally filmed your musical, I KNOW you have, most of them have promotional material and even full songs filmed and recorded, they’re on youtube! What the fuck is stopping you from just spending 1 entire day, maybe 2, on recording your musical, let it be edited and slapped on a dvd, ready to be mass-spread across the globe and earning potentially millions from musical-kids who are not rich Americans? It would take no time, no budget (compared to the loads you spent on the stage production in the first place), it would stop bootlegs from being a thing and you’d make so many people happy. You’re not stopping anyone from coming to your musical because those who can’t afford it WON’T COME TO YOUR MUSICAL, and those who can, WILL. Because that’s the audience you’re dealing with: devoted theatre lovers. You don’t have to lecture us on how the stage production is better than what will eventually be released on the dvd because, trust me, WE KNOW. And we will forever mourn the fact that we might never be able to see our favourite musicals on stage because plane tickets and hotels are fucking expensive, but in the meantime, we can enjoy all your hard work, we can enjoy the cast’s amazing singing, acting and dancing, we can admire the decors, the lights, all the costumes, the music.
Most importantly, you are making your fans happy.
So why the crap are musical dvd’s not a goddamn market, right now?
Preach.
There are plenty of reasons why Broadway shows aren’t filmed. While I do think they should do more filming, it’s just not possible/logical.
the pit during someone gets hurt reprise
I sat in the front row right behind the conductor. Can confirm this is 100% accurate.
re: people annoyed with the tonys lineup and the season in general: my one concern is the movement of the industry towards rejection of experimentation. like working off of established stories isn't bad inherently but if that's all that's there then it worries me. but then again adaptations can be very personally motivated and original material can be a cash grab. it doesn't really matter I should probably just shut up and appreciate the work of great performers and creators right? right.
yea ur last sentence is right because none of these shows are complete rip offs of something else and you should just appreciate the amazing work they are doing and let the people who enjoy it, enjoy it.
here’s what i have to say about this season (mostly about musicals cause that’s what everyone’s pissed off about)
1. even through adaptations creators can express themselves through writing new music, scripts, designs etc. this isn’t the 1st season where we’ve had adaptations and it certainly won’t be the last. like i said in the original post, almost every piece of work is an adaptation from something, open your eyes and realize this. there were similar style adaptations of these musicals before. also there’s a difference between franchising established characters and making something completely new about it versus making an adaptation.
2. do you guys realize how much money goes into a broadway production?? so obviously going for something that has a fan base already seems like a good business solution? as a producer you’re not gonna throw away millions of dollars on something that’s gonna close in a couple of months because you’re playing at 50% occupancy. producers do throw money at new and original shows, but it’s gotta have marketability and the producers have got to believe they will get something out of it because it’s a business and you’re trying to make a profit and not just pay off your rent.
3. there’s a ton of experimentation in new york theatre but if you’re just limiting your scope to broadway you’re not gonna see that wide range, but it’s there! i’ve even seen atw promoting it on their own platforms, but the reason those don’t become famous is because it’s not adaptable to a wide range of audience. look around you the next time you’re at a theatre show, there’s a wide range of diversity of taste, race, age, etc and a good broadway show can be enjoyable for all no matter how weird or different it is. if you want to support “new” theatre why don’t you also go visit local community shows, theaters meant for workshopping, or student shows. support them when they’re starting and they’ll make it to the top, but no producer is gonna take a chance on something if no one liked it/supported it to begin with. also contrary to belief, broadway is not the height of theatre, it’s just the most profitable and the most marketed. just because a show didn’t make it on broadway doesn’t mean it’s not good, so yea support your weird, creative off bway shows. they have their own awards too.
4. i’m sick and tired of this because i didn’t see you all complaining about other adaptations last season or before, like with anastasia (which is essentially doing what frozen is doing) or great comet (which took exact words and spiced them up like tbv or mean girls is doing) but just because a show seems outwardly cringey to you like spongebob your initial response is to hate it without even listening to the soundtracks, performances, or boots.
5. this season is fantastic in terms of diversity: middle eastern culture, african american and latino composers, lgbt+ media, blind casting for each of the best musical nominees, etc. this is everything everyone’s trying to convince broadway of moving towards but you guys just can’t get past the fact that these are the shows that are doing it
6. last but not least the tonys are about money!!! how many times will i say the bway is a business. while they do factor in talent, it’s also inside relationships and the profit it will bring to atw. and atw is petty asf!!!! ex: 1984 was a critically acclaimed play but did it get a nomination this year??? no! you want to know why? because they tried to stop one of the guys from the nomination committee from seeing it because of personal beef between the critic and the producer of the play.
anyway i was about to go to sleep when i received this message and if you can’t tell i’m angry about everyone looking down on this season like you can hate a show all you want but why do you guys literally have to write hate on every piece of work that the show’s fans make and looking down on people who are fans of certain shows. it’s not like any of these shows have a legit moral reason for someone to hate them.
Just wanna jump in here. Producers are not the ones throwing money in a production. Investors put in money. So in order for a show to make it to Broadway, a Producer needs to find a show, sell the show to their investors, have their investors willing to give thousands/millions to put the show on, hope and pray the investors make their investments back, THEN the producers get paid. So producers may want to put on new works but it’s the investors who need to be persuaded which is tough to do cause most of the time they’re rich old dudes who have no idea what shows would appeal to audiences.
I’m doing a HUGE playbill sale soon. What playbills are you interested in? Send me a message!
Fun fact: My friend is the reason Christy had Derek’s trading card in her dressing room!
I was so disappointed in the Carousel revival...
I need more people in my life to talk to me about Anastasia so reblog if you’re as much trash for this musical as I am and hmu !!
