Is it "Lah-Me-Ah" or "La-Me-Ah"?
LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! definitely LAH.
How do you feel about Martin? You were right to say he treats you like a thieving drunk. You work hard and you deserve proper compensation. Vintage wines make great gifts, but not with strings attached. Don't be walked over by people who should know better.
I’m going to give Martin the benefit of the doubt and assume that this was just a foolish mistake. Perhaps both of us have had bad days lately, and he simply didn’t give it any thought. Not like it matters - he either comes back whenever with proper pay (in which case all’s well again), or he doesn’t learn and doesn’t come at all (in which case he doesn’t bother me when he has nothing to offer). In both cases I’m better for it - that’s what I think.
But how I feel about him is my own business.
I like abrasive Lamia. It's refreshing. Just my opinion tho.
Thanks, me too, but I like her abrasiveness if it's explained/justified UvU
Ah, shit. [He’s been lax on reforging his own armor after it was melted by dragonfire. He’s been able to rely on the boar up until now, but he’s not eager to see her reaction to him transforming into a ten foot tall werebeast.]
I’m gonna have to go in without the plate. It’ll be fine.
[She herself doesn't don much, now attaching pauldrons and additional pouches.] You're going to be quiet and light on your feet, that's excellent. You'll keep up.
necroheals replied to your post:
[Get yo ass ready, Lamia’s next on the list after Martin]
i get the feeling lamia's being unreasonably abrasive lately and i wonder if you're aware of that or if it's just a part of character development
Thanator's visit fucked her up ahah she'll be ok she just needs to party a lil
If Lamia is supposed to be apathetic or "done with" Sontaire then why is she chit chatting with her after having learned the necessary information? Does she secretly care?
Goodness no, she's just fake and two-faced. Just because Lamia doesn't care doesn't mean she's going to be obnoxious about it. It would be dumb for Lamia to be obvious about whether or not she cares, because cmon give those people some credit. Why would they continue to put up with her if she's so blatantly apathetic?
To make it easier to grasp: she doesn't care for Sontaire's well-being in a similar way she doesn't care for Shey's - but they both continue to interact (one more than the other) outside business because Lamia deems them useful-people-to-be-not-enemies-with.
Plus, she just casually learned two important things she might not have stumbled upon otherwise.
I was being facetious.
[It dawns on her that this may be the reason, but she doesn’t want to get her hopes up.] Perhaps it is. I didn’t give it much thought, as I didn’t want to force him to stay here, if he had plans of travel. But if that’s the case… I appreciate it. [Clears her throat.]
He does help, though. Which I appreciate.
You call it facetious, I call it patronising. And those two aren't mutually exclusive.
Does he now? [Lamia relaxes a bit, trying to get rid of the unnecessary hostility, but doesn't pretend she's overly engaged in the conversation either.] That's difficult to imagine, unless it's knocking people bothering you out of the way.
What a lifestyle. Ah, youth.
[Clasps her hands together in thought, rests her wrists upon her stomach as she leans back.] I suppose I didn’t… in case you are curious, they are Dakog’s… [She didn’t ask this time but there is no harm in clarifying.]
That is why I am enormous.
Knock it off. You talk as though I'm a child.
[Lamia raises her eyebrows, not bothering hiding the surprise. Well, she probably could have suspected as much, but still it was something to hear it confirmed.] That... would explain a great deal. I suppose that's common knowledge, then. Is this why he doesn't leave Riften?
I’m afraid I’m going to worry, because I care. But I won’t speak of it any longer.
I’m alright… can’t move much at the moment. [Laughs.] Not long from now this will be through and I can move on to something significantly more grueling.
If it's any consolation, I'm perpetually in trouble. It's alright, I'm a thief.
Hm. It's good you're still in one piece, though. [Is all she has to say that would sound politely indifferent.] You never told me who the father was. Well, I never asked.
Is something wrong? Are you in trouble? [Now she’s concerned.] Please, feel free to have a seat.
No...? No, I'm not in trouble. [She reluctantly takes a seat, looking around.] I'ts just... well, how much can a thief and a data broker be troubleless, really? I don't want or need you to worry. I can take care of myself.
You didn't answer my question.
[It’s a genuine but fleeting smile, this time.] That’s true. Alright. I concede.
How have you been? [Her voice is quiet.]
[She's ready to say "fine", her lips even pucker to form the F sound - but in the end, she cannot lie. On the other hand, she doesn't wish to sound like she wallows in self-pity.] Quite... shit. I've been shit, Sontaire.
And you?
Lamia, I just don’t want to be lied to. It’s aggravating.
I may not be honest but I hardly lie, we both know I'm shit at it.
Well, I had no idea this was for leisure. Colour me surprised.
[She squints for a moment, hesitant to speak.] Do you... want to argue? You sure sound like you do. Don't get me wrong, I can deliver if you like, but that's not why I am here.
This was a poor business deal if you’ve just come asking for free information. [Chuckles, dryly.]
[She doesn't chuckle in return, her expression is serious, bordering bored.] I didn't. I'm simply sating my curiosity with idle gossip. Except - when it comes from you - it's not mere gossip, I suppose.
I have no pity to spare. Not for those who are the harbingers of their own misery.
[ He isn’t talking about her anymore. Never was. His grip on the door handle blanches his knuckles. ] You speak to me about Time as if you understood it. None of you do. [ A laugh, unhinged. ] But that’s my curse. And no one else’s.
[ The room grows distant, its empty space impossibly loud. He can’t hear his mouth anymore, only his thoughts. ]
Good luck, Lamia. May Time be kind to you.
[She thinks about what he says. Perhaps, perhaps, he's right...? How difficult could It be to quickly apologise for her unintentional rudeness, invite him back, offer brandy, talk, like they used to. Have him explain, have her learn.
However, her own pride is hurt by his - what she deems - patronising tone, more than she's wiling to listen. She says nothing, letting him go, and she doesn't even bother pushing the bottle off the edge of the desk.]
