My 7 year old had what my boss calls a "paradoxical reaction" to some medication last night. Instead of the Benadryl making him sleepy (we were out of melatonin) and helping him sleep through the night, he awoke bright eyed and begging for chili dogs (he will eat neither chili nor hot dogs) at 4 am. After a measly 4.5 hours of sleep. He did not go back to sleep for the rest of the night. At certain points throughout the night, I was able to doze a bit and somewhere in the morning melee, I snoozed through or turned off all of my alarms. (Yes, "alarms", plural. I need them. I use at least three every morning.) I woke up at 8:04. My out-the-door deadline is 8:15. Thank God for dry shampoo and enough red lights on my commute to take my wayward eyebrows. Becoming a mother at a young age, I never really got to experience that classic "partied too hard last night" single girl experience from the movies where she runs out the door after throwing on a fresh shirt and jacket, whipping her hair into a ponytail, and shoving half a bagel in her mouth. But I did have my very own version of that this morning with dry shampoo and a jalapeño and cheese microwave breakfast burrito. And I only left the house six minutes later than I should have. So here I am, unfiltered, at a not so flattering camera angle, with the bags under my eyes remarkably visible, desperately in need of an IV filled with caffeine. This is motherhood. This is working out of the home when you'd rather stay in bed and cuddle while watching Sonic the Hedgehog (on whom I firmly blame the chili dog obsession) on Netflix. This is tired. This is getting shit done anyway. #momlife #officelife #singlemom #workingmom #nofilter
