“well i hope it never comes to that. from what i have been told, they can give you quite a headache and you are stuck on bed rest,” alexander replied. “it was nice to meet you-…” he started to say before realizing he hadn’t caught her name. “even under miserable circumstances and collisions.”

She nodded, understanding.  She’d hate to be injured in such a way.  But she noticed he trailed off and she realized her error.  She shook her head.  “Of course not. My apologies, my name is Bronwyn.”

“I see,” she nodded, a faint smile on her lips. “This seems to be your area of expertise. May I ask what it is you’re working on?” It was her business to know as much as she could about the activities of everyone in the castle, but at the same time, she asked out of genuine curiosity. The ingredients looked familiar to her, but perhaps there was something the woman knew that she had yet to learn, even with her knowledge of different concoctions.

“A healing tonic,” Bronwyn admitted as she shifted her grip on the basket.  Yes, some of the ingredients in the basket could be used to create poisons just as easily as save them, but that wasn’t what she did.  Her heart was too gentle to harm people with her knowledge.  “I learned from my mother, so it is nice to have it accessible.”

𝐏𝐈𝐓𝐘, 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐒𝐇𝐄 did not know the man’s name. she would have made everything possible to have him punished. “ men like that do not deserve to live. ” and while the words uttered were quite dark, and not something one would hear the high lady say, she meant every syllable. “ i suppose next time shall be. ” words were muffled by the giggling of her youngest sister, who still ran about the vast halls. for a moment, she had even forgotten the reason they walked. “ we were headed towards the gardens, someone is keen about running and i, of course, was not about to say no. ”

A wry smile formed on Bronwyn’s lips.  She could do that, ensure he would not live, but she had vowed not to do anything like that with the knowledge her mother passed down.  But Aysa told her where they were going and her expression softened.  “I will accompany you,” she told her.  “We couldn’t dare keep her from enjoying herself.”

𝐀𝐘𝐒𝐀'𝐒 𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐋𝐘 smile dissipated into a thin line. men usually made of women their entertainment, a practice she surely despised. it was as if, they saw them with little to no regards, which proved to upset her more often than not. she got respect, for her position but she did not want to imagine how difficult it was for others who were not as lucky. “ who was it ? do you know of his name ? ” aysa would not sit at ease, knowing someone tried to bother her handmaid.

Bronwyn shook her head when the question was posed.  This was something she had grown accustomed to as horrible as it was.  “No, I am afraid not,” she informed her.  “If I see him again I will be sure to let you know.”  Though she hoped she didn’t have to.  Bronwyn was loathed to make waves.  She didn’t want to draw attention to herself.

alexander gently pulled her up off the wall. “okay…i’m glad to hear it. this has definitely taught me to watch where i’m going around here,” he replied with a nervous laugh. he nodded his head in response. “i am perfect. i mean maybe a little embarrassed but i will recover.”

She smiled at him.  “I feel much the same,” she told him.  “I’ve always been told i walk with my head in the clouds.  It’s probably a miracle I haven’t had a serious injury.”

When she was seven, Bronwyn helped her mother craft a poison that was used to kill a man.  At the time she had no idea what she was doing other than what her mother wanted, but when she later discovered the truth, it made her sick.  She’s never told a soul and still feels badly about it.

The social hierarchy and expectations for women.  She doesn’t appreciate knowing all the things she has worked to achieve are undervalued because of her gender.

Bronwyn stole a horse when she was sixteen.  She returned it some time later, but she took it from the stables and rode for hours before realizing trying to run from her problems wouldn’t do any good, and she couldn’t leave Tobias with their mother.  The stablehand caught her, but he looked the other way if she promised it would never happen again.

The thought of growing old alone.  Bronwyn is terrified that as she gets older she will become a spinster old healer.  She’s always been maternal, looking after her little brother and wanting to do the right thing.  The thought that she may never have a family is one that keeps her up at night, especially knowing how heavily society emphasizes the value of women on their marriage and children.

Honestly, Bronwyn wishes she was a better liar.  Direct lies are not hard to tell when she’s being untruthful, so she has to dance around it if she’s trying to hide something.

The fact that she can make lethal poisons.  Bronwyn hates that she has that skill and hides it as best as she can, while still using her talents for good.  Aside from that, Bronwyn also is a fairly good singer, but usually doesn’t sing when people could hear her.

“It is no trouble at all,” she said as she reached over to help her with the basket, eyes quickly scanning the ingredients within, a faintly curious expression on her features as she tried to imagine what the woman could be making. “These look freshly picked. Will you be using them all up today?”

Bronwyn smiled at the woman, shaking her head.  “Not all of it,” she told her.  “Some of it will be dried before it can be used.”  Truthfully, Bronwyn preferred working with the dried plants, but sometimes fresh ones were necessary.

alexander shook his head. “don’t be ridiculous. it wasn’t your fault,” he told her. he put his hand out to offer her a hand up off the wall. he didn’t think she was incapable of pushing herself up off the wall, he was just trying to be a gentleman. “are you alright?” he asked her once again. he would have felt awful if he had hurt her, even if it had been on accident.

She took his hand when it was offered.  The gesture was sweet and she appreciated it.  A small smile formed on her lips as she looked at him.  “Yes, I’m alright.  No harm done,” she assured him.  “Are you alright?”

When she wasn’t training her physique, she filled her mind with knowledge of plants and herbs, which proved to be all the more useful in her line of work. Perhaps her knowledge also hid a more sinister side, but she’s always been taught that they were a necessary evil. She regarded it as any other skill—something she would use to fulfill her duties. “You seem to have a lot on your hands. May I assist you?

Bronwyn offered a small smile to the woman.  She did have a lot on her mind to be true.  Her basket was full and her day had been just as full.  “You may, if it isn’t too much trouble,” she told her.  “I always appreciate help.  You are quite kind.”

Darrow was glad to see she wasn’t injured in any way and that her basket seemed intact despite the misfortunate near-miss the two had. He wasn’t angry, though he knew many who would have been dismissive of the apology and demanded retribution for a simple accident caused by two souls deep in thought. His moniker of lionhearted was well named. 

“The maester often told me I spent to much time with my head in the clouds as it were. Seems like he was right though I hate to admit to such a thing.” He said with a good nature smile on his features. “We both learned a lesson indeed.” He was willing to forgive and forget, no harm done. They would both be on their ways. “No, please don’t worry about causing a delay, this is actually a welcomed distraction.” He admitted almost guilty that he stood there having a perfectly normal conversation and wasn’t focused onto everything that was happening.

He looked back briefly over his shoulder and the looming keep of the castle there beside the ocean. Darrow turned blue eyes back onto her, “I came from the palace’s great hall,” He offered no other explanation, there wasn’t need of one. The great hall was where the mourners for the seven regions were gathered. He noted her basket again, “What were you collecting?” 

A small smile formed on her lips.  She’d been told she was too much of a dreamer, that it would do her no good in the future, but Bronwyn didn’t agree.  Perhaps her dreams weren’t the things expected of women, but she had to try and do what she thought was right.  There was no other way.  And the way he spoke, a distraction, Bronwyn knew with the kingdom mourning, it was often hard to find a slice of normalcy.  She craved it, but knew she was less impacted than others.

Especially once he explained where he had been.  Bronwyn had no reason to mourn the king.  It was sad, to be true, but he had no impact on her life.  He was a man who would have seen someone like her as someone not to bother with.  But this an before her, at least he pretended to care.  A light breeze brushed a lock of hair across her face and she reached up to tuck it back in place.

“Some herbs from the market,” she explained.  “I’m afraid it is nothing terribly exciting.”  They could be used to craft a few healing potions and serums if she put in the work, but until then it was simply a basket of herbs.
