A kaleidoscope is full of ornate colors and shapes that are continually changing as the lens is twisted. It is intricately comprised of mirrors and an assortment of vibrant beads so when light shines through a florid masterpiece arises. Every twist and turn creates a new image, a new pattern, igniting a new awe within the onlooker.
I like to think I live my life through a kaleidoscope, one given to me by God Himself, years ago. Like that childhood gift you received at Christmas.
The one that never lost it's intrigue.
The one that never got boring.
The one that always accompanied you on your immersion into the "make-believe".
The one surprising you with it's unending ability to morph boredom into thrill.
The one that now fills you with sweet nostalgia at mere recollection.
My kaleidoscope hasn't been handed down through a garage sale or found it's way into that old box of toys in my mother's garage, it's still with me. It's always in my pocket, accessible, ready, and burning to be used. It was my protection as a child, my escape, my security. It is now my perspective as an adult, my segue between my earthly mindset and eternity.
This gift gives me the ability to see this life through the lens of God. Through it He has and continues to show his omniscience. His infinate knowledge is more than I can ever behold here on this earth. But through His love, through His power, through His mercy and through His unending grace He reveals glimpses of Himself, His beauty, His presence.
He shows me in every challenging circumstance there is hope. He takes my scope and gives it a twist unfolding the beauty in heartache, the hope in defeat, the thrill in the mundane, and the promise in His Word.
He shows me the joys in this life, the gifts scattered throughout my day.
The wildflowers filling the empty space on the highway.
The strangers smile as I leave the grocery store.
My husbands loving arms wrapped around me after a long day.
Through it He is also teaching me this life is best lived through the eyes and imagination of a child, to be creative in moments of boredom, to loosen up and not allow inconvenience to rob me of fun and adventurous moments.
Just as a piece of art is defined best by the artist, so this life is defined best by Him. So I surrender, lean into Him and allow Him to interpret the landscape before my eyes, orchestrating His sovereign will, revealing His color and creativity with every twist.
His light always shines through as His faithful hand changes the perspective of my lens, revealing a greater purpose to the story of my life...to the story of His Creation.
