Hello there! My name is Rev. They/he only, no female terms please. I’m an autistic adult.

This is my Jim Jones / Jonestown sideblog, which doubles as both a research blog and a place for me to dump all my autistic rantings and memes. Here, you will find detailed posts on aspects of Jim’s character, alongside analysis posts regarding People’s Temple as a whole. There will also be unserious posting here, alongside a bit of my own writing and art.

The purpose of my analysis posts is to provide critical, detailed reflections on Jim / Jonestown, in addition to making lesser known information more accessible. I hope that you will benefit from my posts in one way or another.

Make no mistake about it. The victims of People’s Temple, especially the children, deserved so much better.

I may sometimes post things without a source. I am quite forgetful so if I do leave something out, shoot me a message!

Important Announcement

Hello, everyone.

I once again apologise for not using this blog in so long. I know quite a few people miss my postings. I do too. But lately, I’ve lost interest in Jim / Jonestown as a whole and have found it increasingly hard to keep up with this blog. That spark that I once had is no longer there, and has been replaced by guilt and passion for other subjects.

It’s with my greatest regret to announce that I am officially retiring brotherjonesie. Don’t worry - I’m not deleting the blog! There’s far too much important research on here, and I know many will still want to look through the posts I’ve reblogged. I will just no longer be active, and no longer answering asks. 

I’m also going to be deleting the art on my blog in a week’s time. I’m sorry to those who enjoyed my art, but I am terrified of my art being traced back to my main blog. I‘ll remain active and keep my art up for about a week before logging out for good.

Thank you to everyone who has supported and talked with me over the year or so this blog’s been active for. I’ve made great friends from just researching and laughing over this case. I sincerely hope that folks make good use of this blog, and the research I and others have gathered.

Do we know what substances Jones was using? Every documentary says he was using, and some say amphetamines, but not which ones specifically. I want to look them up on psychonaut wiki to learn more about their effects and interactions, as I have heard he used multiple substances at a time. Hello dear Anon! I apologise for the lengthy delay in answering you. I hope you’re doing well.

To answer your question, yes, Jim was taking amphetamines, but not exclusively those. The nature of his rigorous work meant he became addicted to multiple drugs just to keep him barely functioning. This included painkillers for his various bodily aches and barbiturates and quaaludes to knock him out after he became hyper vigilant from the stimulants. This unholy concoction 100% contributed to Jim’s multiple mental breakdowns. It only worsened in Jonestown.

There is an interview with Jones’ doctor floating around on YouTube somewhere. If I remember clearly, that touched upon his many conditions and the drug abuse he put himself through. I hope that’s helpful for you, Anon!

I know I haven't been active at all but due to some recent stuff I wanted to say this: If you genuinely defend Jim or speak about him like he's an utter victim and the massacre was NEVER his idea. Please get help and stay off this side of tumblr. Jim Jones is a despicable human being and while some folks may have the hots for him it does NOT excuse the horrific actions he did.

I’m so sorry that happened to you! Yes, he’s an iredeemable monster and absolutely horrifying to read about but at the same time I can’t help but be fascinated by him. Glad I’m not alone in thinking this!

The Memos of Annie Moore

Linked below, the memos of Annie Moore - nurse to Jim and inner circle member, as well as sister of Carolyn Layton - are horrifying in a way that I have not seen expanded on.

Not for the faint of heart, Annie confesses to literally shaking Kimo (Carolyn's son) when he would not stop crying due to an ear infection, neglecting a child that had a fever to engage in a sexual tryst with another member of the community, and nearly killing Jim twice with her negligence - the most serious of which causing Jim to need to be revived by Stephan Jones.

I've had some time to think about it, and even with the terrible things that Jim had done, I can't help but feel that almost no one closest to him had his best interest at heart. Jim was at the mercy of the inner circle in the end, and in my opinion, not fully in power. Not that this downplays any of the harm done by Jim to other people - nothing excuses that - but with "friends" like this, who needed enemies?

Jim was so paranoid about others drugging him and being attacked by the CIA and outer forces, when truly the largest harms being done to him were coming from inside of the house.

What a horrific end for everyone.

and please dont worry about posting stuff that isn't jim related onto this blog! i would love to hear your other thoughts regarding other cult leaders, serial killers, et cetera. i love hearing about different opinions cause i get to learn something new in the process. im happy that you played the tomodachi life living the dream demo!!! now youre making me want to have a "jonestown" island on a separate profile when i eventually get the game on release day.... - ⛪

Thank you so much for being so supportive! I really do appreciate your kindness ;-;. I am aware of a few other cult leaders and find cults as a whole very fascinating, but none have really gripped me like Jim / Jonestown has. I’ve mentioned this a couple times before, but the socio-political contexts of Jonestown really elevates the whole fascination for me. Learning about PT taught me so much about American politics of the 60s and 70s, moreso than some of my history lessons! Manson has intrigued me a couple of times, and Heaven’s Gate is a tragic story all around, but it seems Jim will forever have a vice grip on my brain.

I don’t really have many other cases that fascinate me. Perps like Dahmer and Bundy are…not for me personally (no offence to those who do like them! One of my mutuals does amazing research into Bundy!) and I am especially avoidant towards shootings for personal reasons.

The only other case I have gotten fixated on is that of Jimmy Savile, who I find very fascinating due to me being British and having grown up with a family with wildly differing opinions on him. However, I’m very hesitant to post about that because…well, Nonce Territory.

Also Please do make that Tomodachi Life island! It’d be quite morbidly hilarious!

im a lurker around these parts as im afraid of posting / having an online presence, but thank you so much for your analysis posts on jim jones! they are insightful. the man has given me brain worms for a good ole while now.

i wanted to ask you, rev, if you will be getting tomodachi life on switch perhaps? idk if you are but if so, i kept thinking about a weird alternative universe of sorts where jim and his closest comrades (and enemies) lived together in the same place. i personally find it a little bit humorous.

My fixation has sadly somewhat faded, but knowing my posts still resonate with folks warms my heart. Come get your brain worms, made specially in Jonestown!

I did actually make Jim in the original Tomodachi Life! For a while, he freaked me out because no one wanted to be friends with him and he’d say the most concerning things for no reason. I was terrified he was haunting the game! 😭 I recently played Living The Dream’s demo and enjoyed it quite a bit! I’ll definitely have to make Jim again to carry on the tradition. Maybe Marceline or Tim so he doesn’t get lonely.

This counts as a very early piece of mine! For the upper section—since I had originally used a filtered photograph of the Jonestown victims—I later felt that was inappropriate, so I censored it with a black bar.
