Riding the London Eye
Indian food and Fish & Chips...that's what you eat in London
Tower of London. Saw the Crown Jewels and the Bloody Tower. They stopped me from taking lots of photos.
The home of Sherlock Holmes.
Visited Abbey Road and did our best Beatles impression.
Even summers are rainy in London.
Day 31 - Berlin/London
Pack for London. We are only taking backpacks for our short trip to the capital of England. Short plane ride to southend London airport. Then it's a 55 minute train ride to the center of town. Check into our hotel. It's minutes from the London Eye and right across the bridge from Big Ben, Parliament, and Westminster Abbey. That's the plus...the negative, the room is size of a full bed. With no space on the sides. I can touch both sides of the wall. Dinner at a local pub that served organic food...the movement has come across the pond. Walk across the Westminster Bridge and see the clock tower up close. Try to see 10 Downing Street but its closed.
Our room is so tiny. The bed touches all the walls. At least we have our own bathroom. It's the size of a airplane restroom.
Saw Big Ben on the first night in London. Then we had a warm flat beer at a pub that's been open since 1777. These guys in tuxes walked in. We were not dressed up like that.
Day 30 - Amsterdam/Berlin
Craving chinese food so we have dim sum and wonton soup and roasted duck at a Chinese restaurant in Amsterdam. The haw gow and shu mei were not good but the won ton soup and roasted duck make up for it. Visit the Rijksmusuem and look at Rembrandt's work like the Nightwatch. It's pretty amazing. We stay until it closes and see more of Van Gogh's art. Hang out around Amsterdam until our late flight into Berlin. It feels so good it sleep in regular bed at my brother's flat.
Learning about art at the Rijksmusuem
Dim Sum in Amsterdam
Day 29 - Amsterdam
Sleep in. Wake up in our tiny room and finally head our. Have some Dutch pancakes for breakfast. Then head to the Rijksmusuem. It's packed so we decide to go tomorrow. Ride on a canal tour instead and see a giant windmill. After dinner, we walk around the Red Light District. It's filled with bros and kinda sad.
Take a ride on the canals on Amsterdam. See the famous windmill and then have a beer and some macaroons
Day 28 - Amsterdam
Take a free tour of Amsterdam. Our guide is from the city and really gives a good history of the area. We walk from the center of town through the red light district to the museum area and finally the rich neighborhoods. The canals are so pretty and the homes have so much history. During lunch, we stop by McDonald’s and order from an ATM that lets you pick your order from a touchscreen. It’s the future!!! Visit the Van Gogh museum. It’s amazing to see his works from the beginning and then see the progress. Only thing missing is Starry Nights, kinda a disappointment. Meet up with some friends from college that now live in Amsterdam. They take us to one of their favorite pub/restaurants and show us Amsterdam at night.
McDonalds ATM. Chicken mcnuggets and Big Macs at the touch of button.
The obligatory Amsterdam photo.
