Bonjour bonjour! Being a coach in a large-group setting requires being able to be aware and critical of oneself and make sure that I am not too distant in my relationship with the participants. This level of listening to myself will lead to humility. The ethics of a coach depends on our ability to set rules and ensure that those rules are followed, and provide a clear framework. Sessions are not games, and manipulation must be banned. It is all about leveraging the group’s resources to challenge, motivate and empower people. It was very helpful for me to invest enough time in clarifying the rules, to express my intentions, to inform participants about the logistics. Another important factor is ensuring that there is a clear notion of confidentiality and respect for the participants’ rights during the event. Given that a close relationship has not been developed between coach and audience, the issue of confidentiality is not so significant; however, there are circumstances where participants are exposed. Thus, we must emphasize the need for respecting the privacy and confidentiality of what participants share within the group. As an example, due to the important role of social media in that organization, we must clarify what can and cannot be shared. Supervisors are, in my opinion, a needed and critical support during the conference. When you face a large group, asking for some feedback to my partners was extremely powerful. Receiving feedback during the presentation helped me be aware of some blind spots. When you are a large-group coach, you are not able to be a careful observer and you need some extra help. On the other hand, I made the approach explicit and showed everybody that I am not so powerful. I expressed some vulnerability asking for help and connecting better with the public. It is actually essential to multiply the impact through cooperation and have observers offer feedback at any time, helping to guarantee the ethics of the process.
