Here are some of the portraits I drew at “Noodles and Doodles” by Menma Ramen w/ my pal Youbyun last Sunday. As you may know, I love drawing people and often times I have to draw secretly in case they don’t want to be drawn…So this event was a heaven to me as I was able to draw people who were happy to be drawn! :) Great atmosphere, great people, great friend and great ramens…It was just great night! Thanks for letting me draw you!

I got the chance to do this little illustration for the Sunday Styles section of the NY Times this week. This was for a story on a few websites that are trying to capitalize on the hollywood rumor mill.  A big thanks to Barbara Richer for the great assignment!

This week marked the end of my year long run as weekly contributor for Joe Sharkey’s “On The Road.” These last two spots were for stories on the TSA’s response to potential “phone bombers,” and the liability issues for companies whose employees are killed during business travel. A huge thanks to Bob Goetz and Joe Sharkey for the great opportunity!

Here's a new double spread for the May 2014 issue of Fast Company. This piece was soooo great to illustrate. Getting to work with Fast Company has been on my bucket list for a long time and so when I was asked by AD Alice Alves to work on this project with her and Associate AD Julia Knetzer I was super excited. Alice and Julia gave me tons of freedom to kind of run wild with characters and color. The concept was to create an image that spoke to the idea of Chinese tech startup Tencent being the new kid on the social media block. And this block has some fierce competition with Amazon, Google, Twitter, and Facebook already being well established in the neighborhood.

NY Times - Chi Birmingham

For this week’s “On The Road” Joe Sharkey writes about this winter’s record number of weather related flight cancelations (it is quickly approaching 100,000, with another week of storms on the horizon,) and weighs benefits of the recently implemented  DOT rule which imposes hefty fines on airlines that keep passengers waiting on the runway for more than two hours, but is also partly to blame for the uptick in cancelations. Thanks to Bob Goetz for the assignment!

D Magazine - Chi Birmingham

I stumbled across some old Golden Book Encyclopedias at the junk shop a few weeks ago and have been wanting to do one of these illustrated maps ever since. (Seriously, if you are looking for a lifetime worth of great illustration ideas track those bad boys down. You won’t regret it.) I got the chance to put my pseudo geography to the test for D Magazine. This was for a story on an upwards trend in domestic medical tourism. Savvy patients with deep (or deeper than mine) pockets have been going to Europe and South America to take advantage of lower medical costs and now some US hospitals are trying to get in on the action. A big thanks to Hamilton Hedrick for the great assignment!

Kiplinger’s Magazine - Chi Birmingham 

Hot off the presses! Over my winter break I worked on this illustration for a story on the wide world of streaming audio content. I was happy to have an opportunity to draw both a plaid shirt AND a sailing vessel (two of my favorites,) and to be able to pay tribute to my single greatest source of cultural input. Thank you podcasts! AND, thank you Stacie Harrison for the great assignment!
