Starter call for Leon, since I have no replies to accomplish on him! Please like this post for a randomized starter from Leon of varying length: no cap!
uchinot:
filia-florum:
Truth be told, Estelle had always wanted a pet. But with little say in how her life was run until very recently, she only heard tales of what it was like to have a trusty steed, or faithful hunting dog, or even a spoiled cat. To make matters worse, the only dog she has ever formally met refused to entertain her childhood fantasies. Just one scratch behind the ears, Repede, that’s all –
Needless to say she’s much more excited than her leader is when the party is greated by a chorus of small, happy yips. With caution only at the very back of her mind, Estelle strides past Leon in order to meet their challenge. When she bends down and reaches out her hand, nothing utterly detrimental happens either; a multitude of curious noses prode at her open palm and even then, her fingers are all remain intact.
But for as thrilled as she is initially, it does seem rather odd…
“I wonder if this is some sort of mental challenge,” she ventures, gently patting the head of a small brown puppy. “Perhaps they’re a riddle or a clue to our next task?”
@uchinot
There were a lot of things that could have gone wrong in this situation. One, they are free to roam the area rather than be bound down in an unknown place forced to escape. Two, they were taken at a prime time when a lack of food has yet to hinder their bodies. Three, they have one another for support, even if all may be strangers to each other.
It wasn’t the worst situation he’d been through in life and it wasn’t the best, but they at least had these three things. The entrance to the door the other two boldly opened not blowing up in their faces was a plus.
“Maybe I should add a ‘Four’.” A mumbled statement made only for himself as he made to follow after his merry band of children (oh how he always seemed stuck with them). Ferocious animals didn’t exist, instead were puppies that the found girl had already taken to liking. One even taking the time to sniff at his foot before backing off quickly.
Yeah, he already carried the scent of another pack on him…
“This rooms looks to just be a distraction. Shall we move on?”
Leon watched as the pink haired girl bent to greet the small animals, bracing himself for some sort of surprise. However, nothing happened and as such, he deflated once more, an almost disappointed sigh escaping past his lips. Estellise seemed to present a possible reasoning for the room: a mental challenge perhaps, it made sense although no one really seemed particularly phased by the canines. If it were a mental challenge, one would expect it would have been presented in knowing there was a dog fanatic among them.
A riddle... also a good explanation, but the door remained on the opposite side of the room ready for them to pass through.
Kakashi proposed the idea of moving on just as Leon came to that conclusion himself. He looked to the older male (supposedly, his hair colour made Leon assume he was older, although he hadn’t the care to press on the matter) and nodded once, deciding that was the best course of action. While the thought that it was simply too easy lingered at his mind, Leon chalked it up to paranoia from fighting in a war that was not easily won just prior to his arrival at the academy. He figured he was simply being overly cautious, so he set his worries aside.
However, as it were, his worries were completely justified. As he turned from the gaggle of pups and led his group forward, he heard a deep growl un-befitting of the puppies they had just witnessed. Looking to the small animals, they had suddenly shifted into completely different forms, looking more akin to rabid wolves now - teeth baring and drool dripping from their jowls. Leon’s eyes went wide and he instinctively took a step back, hand gripping the device he had been given tightly.
“I...do not believe this will be as easy as we assumed.” Leon said definitively. Now that his attention had focused back on the dogs, they shifted once more in a whirlwind of magic back into small, innocent little dogs.
( happy tails, nasty teeth ; with @filia-florum & @uchinot )
It wasn’t that he didn’t like animals, but Leon just didn’t see much use in them. As a child he never wanted something as silly as a ‘puppy’, although he did receive numerous horses while training to be the mounted combat type of fighter he was today. So when Leon opened the door to his team’s first challenge and was greeted by the visage of several small dogs, all looking to be rather young, he wasn’t all that phased.
If anything, he was surprised.
“What kind of challenge is this supposed to be...?” Leon asked, scoffing as he entered the room fully, the small canines gathering to greet the party as they entered. He turned to the rest of his team, tossing them an almost worried glance, if it weren’t his mastery of his own brand of poker face.
“Just how weak do they believe us to be without our abilities, that he can’t escape a room of puppies...?”
@filia-florum, your turn!
“What... on Earth...” Leon stared down at the weapon in his hands. He wasn’t quite sure what it was, to be honest, as his world lacked anything like this sort of contraption. However, it briefly resembled some of the weaponry he had seen on a few students around Hiraeth... a gun? Testing out his theory, the mage lifted the device and aimed for a nearby wall, not fully understanding what the weapon was supposed to do. As he tentatively pulled the trigger, an orange piece of... fabric, or something, shot out and bounced against the wall before knocking into his forehead, causing him to flinch momentarily.
He took a moment to process what had happened before glaring down at the weapon in his hand, a deep sigh escaping him. Of course this was the sort of weapon the Headmistress and her advisors would bestow upon him. Of course.
Intro: Control & Magical Ethics
When Leon burst into the room, cloak billowing behind him, he wasted no time in commanding the attention of everyone in the room. Despite the fact that he was still a teenager, he had the experience of a military commander and a presence that garnered attention and radiated power. Regarded as a fearsome mage back home, Leon was used to the quick snap of eyes onto his figure as he began talking loud enough for everyone in the room to hear.
“Good morning, class. Take your seats immediately as we will be getting started momentarily.” His voice did not waver, was loud and clear for the entire room to hear. Arriving at the head of the classroom, Leon stood beside the wooden desk that had been provided for him, fingers trailing over the surface that had likely seen one too many student in the classroom. He hummed almost silently, before lifting his gaze to drag across the faces in the room, all holding a separate emotion but the grand majority seemingly tired (like he was).
“Welcome to Control and Magical Ethics,” Leon began after a moment of silence. He set Brynhildr on the desk, before folding his arms behind his back, posture perfect. “I am Professor Leon. That is what you will call me and nothing else. This, is where you will learn to control your abilities, as well as where you will learn the ethics behind using your abilities for various reasons.”
Turning back to his desk, the teacher grabbed his legendary tome and effortlessly turned on cue, hand outstretched towards a student that had been trying to leave. Vines sprouted up out of the ground, pinning the student to the wall now without so much as a murmur from Leon.
“An example. That was not a morally ethical choice: I could have simply called him back to the group, rather than full out attacking him.” Leon explained briefly, snapping Brynhildr closed with a loud crack. Then, he quietly smirked, hoping to have made a lasting impression on his new class. “However, it was much more satisfying to do it my way. Once you have honed your abilities enough, you will be able to make those choices for yourself. But, until then...”
Leon raised an armoured hand dramatically before snapping his fingers, the vines releasing the student from where he was being held.
“You will follow my rules, my instructions, and my guidance. That is how you will become capable practitioners of magic and other sorts. Now, let us begin.”
( i want to resent you @draconicfate )
Leon stared straight ahead, gaze focused on the familiar sights of his brother, Corrin. The non-boot wearing male had always been someone he’d looked up to, found comfort in despite feeling as if he was constantly in Corrin’s shadow. While he disliked the fact that Xander’s attention had always been on his older, adoptive brother, Leon couldn’t bring himself to hate the other for what had happened.
The truth was, Leon had so little pleasant memories left of his siblings that didn’t make him want to lose his composure completely. The ones that were left included Corrin, and so hating the other was out of the question. Even as he saw his brother roaming the school halls, carefree even though Xander and Elise were...
“Corrin.” Leon finally called out to the other, stepping from his place against the wall. It had been their first time speaking since arriving at the academy. Brynhildr in hand, the Nohrian King stopped just before his brother, face hardened. When he looked at Corrin, he remembered all of the good memories they had... but also the path of betrayal the other had chosen. Corrin had helped Hoshido. While it all worked out in the end between the two nations, Leon had lost much.
And really, the only person he could blame for that was Corrin. Despite this, he couldn’t bring himself to resent his older brother. Perhaps that was his weakness, he was too soft-hearted.
“...You’re here too. Am I to assume you arrived in a similar manner to myself, summoned, as if by magic?”
Class Nap
bluelightningswordsman:
@brynbound
The thing about Control and Magical Ethics, was that Fushimi found it rather boring and for three reasons. One subject was just not something he was all that into, two it was his first class of the day so he hated being awake this early and three the teacher was just plain old boring in his personal opinion. So of course it was a perfect class for him to lie on his arms at the back of the class and just nap. He excelled in his assignments and exams seeing he is a rather studious and intelligent student but he rarely if ever had to pay attention to class.
Today since he stayed up last night reading he was rather tired so even if he did happen to wake up to get to class he still was rather exhausted. So the second he arrives albeit two minutes early he lays his head on his arms and falls asleep.
In all honesty, Leon would argue that he hated mornings more than any of his students combined. Many a morning back home, his attendants would wake him several times and only when he had five minutes to spare did Leon actually rise, rushing to dress within the last few seconds. On more than one occasion, he had even managed to wear his clothing inside out only to be embarrassed by his siblings for his disheveled appearance.
Luckily, such a thing had not happened in the academy yet.
In fact, despite his distaste for mornings in general, Leon found great pride in having been selected as a teacher out of all those in other worlds that linked to Hiraeth. He hated mornings with a passion and yet found himself rising, reluctantly, and pulling himself together if only so that he could make the most of the opportunity given to him. So when he arrived at class a few minutes earlier than usual, his gaze fell upon a slumbering student - Fushimi Saruhiko - and he felt a sense of comraderie.
Pacing towards the other’s desk, Leon exhaled silently for a moment before lifting his tome-wielding hand up, before slamming Brynhildr down on the desk beside the male, hand positioned on top of the legendary text. His expression as he gazed at the other was unreadable, although his eyes held a touch of apology.
“As much as I would like to let you rest, Fushimi, class will begin momentarily. Perhaps you might find it worth investing in a few more hours of sleep at night.”
( do you need help, @berceusian ? )
For as much time as Leon spent pouring over classroom documents and thinking up new ways to better challenge his students, the kingly blond always found time to waste in the school’s extensive library. He found the navigational system fascinating at first, and then upon investigating the various types of text there, he’d been blown away. The academy really had every manner of text - even ones he had read back home. Whenever he had free time, the mage found himself occupying the library and familiarizing himself with the various texts.
He was nearby when what appeared to be a student (only because he didn’t recognize her from any staff meetings or the staff housing), and she appeared a little lost. Seeing as how the librarian wasn’t in sight, Leon decided to step forward. He was a member of the staff after all: helping out students was just another part of the role that he played.
“Afternoon,” he greeted, moving towards the ribbon-clad girl. The way she moved was interesting in itself, but despite his curiosity, it wasn’t his place to ask about it. Instead, Leon raised an eyebrow in questioning. “You seem a little lost. I’m no librarian, but if there’s something you need I can do my best to assist.”
After a small pause, Leon then offered his hand out to the girl. “Professor Leon. I teach Control and Magical Ethics here.”
( it was for your own good @parvuius ... )
To say that things had been slightly more unsettling between himself and Prince Takumi lately was an understatement. Leon was grateful for his position as teacher, allowing him to lose himself in lesson plans and forget the troubles that worried his mind constantly. From thoughts of home to the present day anxiety caused by the fact that he had kissed a Hoshidan prince, having something else to focus on was good.
It was even better that Takumi was not in his class.
If he had been, Leon would not have been able to focus. It wasn’t anything inherently about the Prince that Leon found distracting. Rather, what he himself had done to the other previously was the cause for his worry and faltering, although if he were to be childish about it he could blame Takumi for being the sole need for Leon’s previous actions. During the academy’s first test, Takumi had blindly charged forward with a group of students... and managed to get himself caught up in the demon’s spell. Leon had stepped in then, tired of seeing students and teachers alike coming back with battle wounds, some even being arrows, knowing that Takumi had contributed to the cause. After all, he had been selected for a teaching position at the academy. Leon had to take some responsibility for those whom were from his own world.
So he had tracked Takumi down, kissed him, freed the other from his clouded judgement. Since then, things had been arguably more stressful than ever. Leon wasn’t the type to go around kissing others: he seldom found amusement with such frivolous things unlike others in the castle he’d come from. To call him reserved would not be incorrect, although he was certain that if he found someone and was assured they were interested too... well, perhaps those thoughts were best saved for another time.
Whether it be karma or fate, Leon inwardly cursed as soon as the door clicked behind him and he saw Takumi standing in the middle of the training room. Leon had hoped to get some time alone to clear his thoughts in a way that paperwork was not helping, but instead he found himself face to face with the source of his frustration lately. It was so much of an inconvenience in fact, that the King took a sharp turn on his heel to leave the training room again, but found the door locked. As if the school had decided to magically lock himself and Takumi in a room together.
Leon let out an indignant sigh, before turning back towards Takumi. He wasn’t sure if the other had noticed him, but the Hoshidan prince was now taking a break. Leon cleared his throat audibly, arms folded behind his back in a confident manner as he stepped closer, guard raised.
“Prince Takumi.” He greeted, masking any hint of discomfort behind his usual mask.

( it is about time @parvuius was freed... )
“That is quite far enough, Prince Takumi.” Leon said roughly, calling out in hopes of garnering the other’s attention. In his role as a teacher at the academy, under normal circumstances he was not allowed to interfere unless necessary with the challenge. However, he could no longer sit by while the Headmistress’s insane plan ruined the entire ranks of students and teachers alike that had been summoned. He had kept his place until now: silently casting judgement as wounded after wounded were brought back to the infirmary, to the place where they could find refuge for the time being. In his opinion, things had certainly gone far enough - even the small resistance group had seemingly fallen, their leader having been caught up in the mind-control spell that made the attackers “lovesick”.
It was unfortunate that their leader had been Takumi. Perhaps that was the final straw for Leon.
He did have a peace treaty with Hoshido. This bloodshed... he could not allow Takumi to succumb to madness as well. No, that would be disrespectful to his brother whom had only just started to open up to the Nohrian’s and their alliance. Besides that, Leon didn’t want to see someone he truly wished to befriend simply wander around like a puppet.
It was time to intervene.
“I challenge you to a duel. Know that I intend to win, and return you to your team.” Leon said, drawing brynhildr and cracking open it’s spine with a single hand. The other was poised, ready to cast, eyes unwavering as a King who had seen more than enough sacrifice for one lifetime. “You have been warned. Do your worst, Hoshidan.”
[birthright spoilers] live on king leo
00060204 replied to your post: { NOTHING...
forgive me but reading “he has no taste for swordplay or hand to hand combat” and “leon’s chosen weapon will always be brynhildr” had me thinking of leon wacking people’s faces with it bye
he will tho, having a giant magic tome hit you in the face would not feel good man ;;
{ NOTHING BUT CINDERS.
While younger than most, Leon is a skilled mage and is very much familiar with the art of war. He’s a King and while his home country isn’t known to do much good, he is kindhearted and will help out those in need.
He doesn’t show mercy to enemies. You cross him, you’re dead.
Unlike most mages, he isn’t really defenseless. Leon has incredible armour, fit for a King. He is well guarded and quite capable of handling someone in close quarters, although he has no taste for swordplay or hand to hand combat.
Leon’s chosen weapon will always be Brynhildr, the legendary weapon of his family. The tome can cast a variety of spells, however they are mostly plant based. Roots and thorns become deadly at his control.
As a teacher however, he will respect the instructions hes given. Leon will not interfere unless the situation becomes dire, or he personally feels motivated to help. You can try asking him for help, but there is no guarantee that he will.
If you’re caught meeting the business end of his tome, things will not go well for you. I apologize in advance ~.
As the teacher for Control & Magical Ethics, is has an incredibly alarming amount of control over his magic. All Leon does is study his tome and other magical resources.
Oh, and he most definitely is not giving out any kisses. Don’t even ask --
“Did that hit you?!”
“It would have, had I not been paying attention!” Leon replied, looking both shocked and annoyed. He glared towards the marksman, seeing the other clearly facing him. He wouldn’t have put it past the Hoshidan Prince to aim directly for him - had this been a few months ago.
Leon was confused to say the least, partly because he didn’t expect to see anyone familiar in such a strange world, but also because he thought Nohr and Hoshido were on good terms now. Either Takumi was more of a child than he seemed, or he was going against what his brother had decided.
“Are you looking for a fight, Hoshidan? Willing to turn traitor to your country due to simple pettiness?” Leon scoffed, placing his hands on his hips. One hand rested dangerously close to the tome on his belt, fingers stretched as if threatening the thought of using it. “Or was that just your idea of a ‘joke’, aiming your arrows at me? Because I could return the favour, all in good humour if that is what you wish.”
